Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the My Next Words Grade 3 textbook using evaluation criteria developed by Brian Tomlinson, which include impact, readability, usefulness, practicality, localization, and flexibility. Through a qualitative content analysis approach, this study analyzes the suitability of the content of the book to the needs and characteristics of elementary school students. The results showed that the book had a number of strengths, such as an attractive visual presentation and systematic structure of the material, but also found some weaknesses, such as a lack of local context and challenges in readability for some students. This research provides recommendations for the development of textbooks that are more effective and in accordance with modern pedagogical principles and educational contexts in Indonesia. These findings are expected to contribute to teachers, curriculum developers, and textbook writers in improving the quality of English learning materials at the elementary school level.

Abstract

The digital transformation era requires university students to develop digital literacy competencies that not only support academic activities but also serve as essential capital for entering the workforce and pursuing entrepreneurship. One relevant professional platform to enhance career readiness is LinkedIn, which serves as a medium for both personal branding and professional networking. This community service aimed to improve students’ digital literacy and career readiness through mentoring sessions on LinkedIn account optimization. The program involved the students from the English Education (TBI) and Physics Education (TFS) study programs at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, UIN Palangka Raya, comprising prospective teachers and professionals across various disciplines. The implementation was carried out through tutorials and direct mentoring in two sessions, covering account creation, developing professional headlines and summaries, adding skills and experiences, and uploading simple portfolios. The results indicated that all participants successfully created or improved their LinkedIn profiles, actively engaged in the activities, and demonstrated a greater awareness of the importance of a professional digital identity, which can be seen from the students’ participation, the quality of the profiles produced, and their commitment to continuously developing their LinkedIn accounts. The program highlights LinkedIn’s strategic role in strengthening digital literacy and career readiness among university students in the global era.

Abstract

This study aims to improve English vocabulary mastery among 8A grade students at MTs Terpadu Berkah through the implementation of the Pictionary game method. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach, focusing on observation and assessment of students’ performance during learning activities. Pictionary, as an interactive learning method, utilizes visual images to help students understand and retain new vocabulary more effectively. The research results show that using Pictionary in English vocabulary learning is effective in enhancing students' understanding and memory of new words. Students actively participated in learning activities, demonstrated high enthusiasm, and showed significant progress in using the vocabulary they learned. Additionally, this approach encourages student collaboration and fosters creativity during the learning process. In conclusion, the Pictionary game can be an effective alternative teaching method for improving vocabulary mastery and learning motivation among students. Implementing this method is expected to provide English teachers with a useful strategy for creating a more engaging and interactive learning environment in the classroom.

Abstract

This literature-based study aims to synthesize theoretical and methodological perspectives on needs analysis (NA) in English as a Foreign Language (EFL), emphasizing the framework of necessities, wants, and lacks (NWL) and its implications for materials development. A total of twenty-five peer-reviewed journal articles (2010-2024), three seminal books, and two policy documents were analyzed through thematic and comparative methods. Sources were selected based on their relevance to EFL contexts, academic credibility, and contribution to materials design. The review reveals three key findings. First, needs analysis serves as a cornerstone in curriculum and materials development, ensuring instructional relevance and learner engagement. Second, the NWL framework remains conceptually robust, though its application requires methodological diversification through triangulation of questionnaires, interviews, and observations. Third, digital tools and technology-enhanced approaches have revitalized NA practices, promoting dynamic and data-driven insights into learners’ needs. Conceptually, this study bridges classical and contemporary perspectives on NA. Practically, it offers guidance for teachers, curriculum designers, and material developers to integrate systematic and evidence-based needs analysis into EFL instructional design.
