Abstract

Effective character education for the younger generation is crucial in facing global challenges in the future. By integrating local and global values, education can shape students who not only understand their cultural roots but are also ready to contribute positively to the global community. This study aims to explore innovative approaches in character education that combine local and global values to form a competent generation. The method used is a literature review, examining various educational strategies such as project-based learning, service learning, arts-based education, and technology. The results of the study show that the synergy between local and global values in education helps students develop social skills, empathy, and social justice. Additionally, this approach also prepares students to collaborate internationally, develop critical and creative thinking skills, and build adaptable character traits, making them ready to become responsible future leaders. Integrating these values in education will ensure a competent, open-minded, and globally prepared younger generation.

Abstract

This study examines the role of the Joint Savings and Loan Cooperative (KSP-UB) in Mendahara Subdistrict in promoting local economic development, particularly for micro and small business actors. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the study describes how the cooperative provides accessible, affordable, and tailored financing to its members, thereby strengthening their business capacity and driving village economic growth. Beyond financing, the cooperative also acts as a facilitator for human resource development through training in financial management, digital marketing, and product innovation. KSP-UB supports member product marketing by expanding market access through both traditional and digital networks. The business networks formed among members enhance solidarity, production efficiency, and bargaining power in the market. The findings indicate that the cooperative is not only an alternative financial institution but also a strategic partner that empowers and strengthens the economic independence of the community in an inclusive and sustainable manner. These findings contribute significantly to understanding the role of cooperatives in microeconomic development in rural areas

Abstract

This qualitative study explores the implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) to enhance critical thinking skills among junior high school students in Indonesia. Recognizing the limitations of traditional teaching methods that emphasize memorization, this research investigates how PBL, which centers on student-driven problem-solving, impacts students"™ analytical abilities, collaboration, and self-directed learning. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with three teachers and ten students, and analysis of student assignments and reflections over a 12-session period. Thematic analysis revealed that PBL effectively promotes critical thinking by encouraging students to question assumptions, evaluate multiple perspectives, and engage in meaningful dialogue with peers. Additionally, the study found that teachers shifted their roles from information providers to facilitators, which positively influenced student engagement and autonomy. However, challenges such as time constraints, curriculum alignment, and the need for teacher training were identified as barriers to optimal implementation. The findings suggest that with adequate support and adaptation, PBL can serve as a powerful pedagogical approach to develop critical thinking skills in junior high school settings. The study contributes to the growing body of research advocating for innovative instructional strategies in secondary education and offers practical recommendations for educators and policymakers aiming to foster higher-order thinking skills in adolescents.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the distinct roles of language and reading skills in science literacy among primary school students through a qualitative approach. Science literacy, defined as an understanding of scientific concepts and processes, and the capacity to apply them in everyday life, is a crucial competency for students in the modern era. This research employed a case study method, with data collection techniques comprising in-depth interviews, classroom observations and document analysis. The findings indicate that language skills play a pivotal role in assisting students in comprehending and communicating scientific concepts in an effective manner. The aforementioned skills encompass an individual's capacity to comprehend and employ scientific terminology, construct sentences with correct grammatical structures, and convey ideas in a clear and logical manner. In contrast, reading abilities are pivotal for students to obtain, comprehend and integrate information from diverse sources, including scientific texts. Well-developed reading abilities facilitate students to understand intricate scientific texts, construct arguments supported by evidence and draw inferences from available data. This research offers insights into the development of language and reading skills holistically, with the aim of improving science literacy among primary school students. It also emphasises the importance of an integrated and comprehensive teaching approach in science education.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact of the direct instruction learning (DI) model on the acquisition of fundamental badminton skills in a secondary education context. Specifically, it seeks to determine whether DI enhances students' understanding and proficiency in badminton techniques at the secondary education level. This study aimed to ascertain the impact of the direct instruction (DI) learning model on the acquisition of basic badminton skills among students in class XI IPA 3 at SMAN 6 Jakarta. The research method employed was that of an experiment with a pretest-posttest design. The sample was selected using purposive sampling, with a total of 33 individuals included. Data collection techniques employed observation of non-badminton basic skills, with an increase based on pretest and posttest data of 46.24%. Parametric analysis was conducted, which demonstrated a significant value of 0.000 in the sign test for the research instrument's basic skills test grids. The data analysis utilized an alpha level of 0.05, indicating that the DI learning model affects learning outcomes.

Abstract

Mathematics has an instrumental function in enhancing the quality of Indonesian citizens. However, as science and technology progress and the digital age intensifies, it has become imperative to modify the mathematical learning paradigm to align it with the demands of the 21st century. The research objectives were to ascertain the following: The study sought to answer three research questions(1) the difference in the improvement of mathematical critical thinking ability of students who are given problem-based learning with students who are given direct learning; (2) the interaction of learning with initial mathematics ability on the improvement of students' mathematical critical thinking ability; (3) the difference in the improvement of learning independence of students who are given problem-based learning with students who are given direct learning. The findings of the study can be summarized as follows: (1) students who received problem-based learning exhibited a greater improvement in their mathematical critical thinking abilities than those who received direct learning; (2) there was no interaction between learning and initial mathematical ability on the improvement of mathematical critical thinking abilities; (3) students who received problem-based learning demonstrated a greater improvement in their learning independence than those who received direct learning.

Abstract

Education plays a crucial role in shaping democratic character in students, especially within madrasahs. Democratic character, which encompasses values such as freedom of expression, deliberation, equality, and social responsibility, is essential for developing individuals capable of active participation in community life. Madrasahs, as institutions integrating religious and general education, hold a strategic role in instilling these characteristics. An integrative learning approach, particularly in science subjects, proves effective in internalizing democratic values. Instruction involving discussion, collaboration, and problem-solving enables students to think critically, appreciate differing opinions, and collaborate in decision-making. Additionally, extracurricular activities serve as an important means for students to practice democratic values. However, implementing democratic character in madrasahs faces challenges, such as students' diverse backgrounds and limited facilities. Therefore, there is a need for continuous improvement in teacher training and facility enhancement to ensure more effective democratic education.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) principles in the implementation of the Independent Curriculum at Indonesian Schools for Change. Using a qualitative approach with an exploratory case study method, this study involved 18 informants from five Schools for Change, consisting of principals, teacher leaders, class teachers, curriculum coordinators, and representatives of parents/school committees. Data collection techniques were carried out through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The results show that the integration of SDGs in the Independent Curriculum can be implemented through three main strategies: integrated learning in subjects, the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5), and school-community collaboration. Best practices found include a sustainable literacy park program, a renewable energy project, and an environmentally friendly school cooperative that effectively develop students' sustainability awareness. However, implementation faces significant challenges in the form of limited teacher understanding (89%), a lack of technological resources (72%), and cultural resistance to change (78%). This study concludes that although the Independent Curriculum provides flexibility to integrate SDGs values, it requires strengthening teacher capacity, providing adequate resources, and sustainable policy support to achieve optimal implementation.
