Abstract

ABSTRACT Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions that increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, and stroke. Among the components of dyslipidemia, triglyceride levels and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) are important indicators in assessing cardiovascular disease risk, making these examinations useful for screening risk factors associated with metabolic syndrome. However, healthcare facilities are often unable to conduct these assessments independently, necessitating a referral system to more comprehensive healthcare services. Our community service team aims to facilitate this by conducting lipid profile examinations at Puskesmas Pakuan Baru as an early detection effort for metabolic syndrome in women of reproductive age. The activities carried out included lipid profile testing, blood pressure measurement, and education regarding metabolic syndrome. The results from 26 participants indicated that 23.07% had elevated triglyceride levels, 73.08% had low HDL levels, and 19.33% were hypertensive. Based on these findings, women of reproductive age already exhibit risk factors for metabolic syndrome, suggesting that lipid profile assessments should be incorporated into routine screening programs to prevent the onset of metabolic syndrome.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Prevention of cardiovascular disease can be performed with early detection and management of underlying risk factors as announced by the Ministry of Health in GERMAS since 2016. Obesity, hypertension, type II diabetes mellitus are conditions which have a high probability for progressing to cardiovascular disease if not detected early and treated properly. Examination of body fat composition, blood pressure and fasting-glucose tests are relatively affordable tests to do which performed as prevention management to prevent those condition mention before. Early detection is related to early management and promise better prognosis, especially in the productive age population. Puskesmas simpang sungai duren have competence medical team who work in primary health services. Equipped with laboratory facilities, but the laboratory has not been able to facilitate the examination of venous blood glucose metabolites with the COD-PAP method. Body fat composition assessment has also only been done with simple anthropometric measurements that have not been done with BIA because tools are not available. Related to this, the service proposal team proposed organizing this service activity by carrying out body fat assessment with BIA, blood pressure screening and glucose metabolism profile with standardized methods. The results of the screening will then be used as the basis for personal consultation and data submission to partner health care facilities for follow-up. Screening of cardiovascular disease risk factors in service participants found a total of 25 people suffering from hypertension, 5 people suffering from fasting hyperglycemia and 50 people suffering from obesity. Body fat composition screening found that 57 people had low fat mass, 64 people were classified as over fat and 30 people had high visceral fat mass. Abstract

Preeclampsia is a leading cause of maternal and perinatal complications. Preventive strategies based on local food resources offer a sustainable approach aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. This study describes a community-based intervention integrating nutrition, health education, and periodic monitoring among pregnant women in the Puskesmas Tahtul Yaman area, located along the riverside in Jambi. The intervention applied the Health Belief Model to enhance perceived benefits and reduce barriers, the Theory of Planned Behavior to strengthen attitudes and behavioral control, and Knowles’ Adult Learning Theory for contextual learning. Activities were conducted in two phases. In the first phase (gestational age 26–28 weeks, trimester 2), pregnant women attended sessions on preeclampsia and safe fish consumption, supported by cooking demonstrations using nutrient-dense river fish. They received fish-based meals twice weekly for six weeks. Maternal health was monitored through blood pressure, weight gain, and symptoms, while fetal well-being was assessed by ultrasonography. The second phase, eight weeks later (trimester 3), repeated maternal examination and ultrasonography for follow-up of pregnancy. None of the participants developed hypertension, fetal growth matched gestational age, and mothers showed improved knowledge of preeclampsia and its prevention, particularly through fish consumption. This community-driven model demonstrates the effectiveness of combining local nutrition, adult learning strategies, and regular maternal-fetal monitoring. It highlights a feasible, culturally sensitive, and sustainable approach to strengthen maternal health and prevent preeclampsia in resource-limited settings. Abstract

Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a growing public health problem, characterized by central obesity, high blood sugar levels, increased blood pressure, and lipid profile disorders that can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. This community service activity was carried out to strengthen the competence of Posyandu cadres in the Tahtul Yaman Community Health Center (Puskesmas) work area in Jambi City in conducting early detection and providing education about MS. The program was implemented through three main stages: module development, module-based training, and direct mentoring in the field. The training module was designed by integrating the Health Belief Model (HBM) approach and andragogy principles, so that the learning process was more participatory and oriented towards the cadres' real-life experiences. A total of 15 cadres from nine Posyandus actively participated in this activity. Evaluation was carried out through pre- and post-tests to assess knowledge gains, and the Direct Observation of Procedural Skills (DOPS) method to measure practical skills. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge scores, with the pass rate increasing from 73.33% to 100% after the training. Cadres were able to implement screening procedures according to standards and explain the examination results well. However, the communication-education aspect still needs strengthening to make health messages more easily accepted by the public. Overall, this program has proven effective in increasing the capacity of Posyandu cadres as the frontline of promotive and preventive health services at the community level.

Abstract

Obesity is a major risk factors for non-communicable diseases, and its prevalence continues to increase in Indonesia. Community Health Centers, as primary healthcare providers, play a crucial role in obesity prevention through the empowerment of local health cadres. This community service aimed to enhance cadres’ knowledge and skills in early obesity detection. The program was implemented through a structured training consisting of material delivery and hands-on anthropometric measurement sessions, followed by field visits to Posyandu to evaluate cadres’ practical skills in performing anthropometric assessments. A total of 15 Posyandu cadres from the working area of Tahtul Yaman Community Health Center participated in this activity. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge, with median scores rising from 90 (range 50–100) in the pre-test to 100 (range 80–100) in the post-test (p = 0.007). The proportion of cadres achieving the passing score also increased from 53.3% to 100% (p = 0.006). Field observations indicated that most cadres were able to perform anthropometric examinations independently and in accordance with standard procedures. These findings suggest that structured training combined with practical field reinforcement may contribute to improving cadres’ competencies, thereby supporting their role in sustainable, community-based obesity prevention efforts. Abstract

ABSTRACT Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a significant public health challenge, with a rapidly increasing burden in Indonesia. Community health cadres (kader) are crucial for community-level prevention, yet many possess limited knowledge regarding DM management and prevention. This community engagement program aimed to enhance the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of health cadres within the Tahtul Yaman Primary Health Center area in Jambi City, focusing on diabetes prevention and control. This program utilized a participatory action research approach involving 15 active community health cadres. The intervention, conducted between August and September 2025, consisted of structured training modules, interactive lectures, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), skill-based simulations (including glucometer use), and the distribution of educational toolkits. A pre-test/post-test design was used to evaluate changes in knowledge, with data analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Qualitative data were gathered through reflection sessions and one-month post-training field observations. Participants showed a statistically significant improvement in knowledge regarding diabetes prevention and management. The median knowledge score increased from 60 (IQR 40–80) at pre-test to 80 (IQR 40–90) at post-test (p = 0.009). Qualitative findings revealed positive shifts in cadres’ attitudes and increased self-efficacy in communicating health information. Key themes identified included knowledge empowerment and enhanced readiness for community engagement. Follow-up observations confirmed that cadres successfully applied their new skills, such as conducting risk screenings and health education, during community Posyandu ILP sessions. A structured, participatory, and context-sensitive training program effectively enhanced the knowledge, attitudes, and practical skills of community health cadres in DM prevention. Empowering cadres through continuous mentorship and integrating such programs into local health systems offers a sustainable and scalable strategy to strengthen community resilience and advance chronic disease management. Keywords: Diabetes melitus, community health cadres, health education empowerment, non-communicable diseases primary health care. Abstract

ABSTRACT Interprofessional Education (IPE) is a mandated learning process to prepare "collaborative practice-ready" healthcare professionals. This community service aimed to enhance the capacity of teaching staff at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) Jambi University (UNJA) as competent IPE facilitators, especially in evaluating students' interprofessional reflection abilities using the validated RESPECT instrument]. The training method was applied through lectures, discussions, and role-playing on giving constructive feedback. The activity successfully delivered material on reflection instruments and facilitator competencies to the target of 30 teaching staff. Facilitators were trained to be role models who emphasize reflection at both the professional and interprofessional levels, which is crucial for building a strong collaborative mindset and overcoming prejudices between professions. The result of this community service is a targeted increase in faculty capacity to assess student reflection, ensuring IPE implementation supports the creation of comprehensive healthcare services.
