Abstract

[Ecolyrics in Japanese Children Songs:  A Review of Two Douyou] This paper is an ecolinguistic analysis of the lyrics of two douyou (Japanese children songs) – coined in this paper as ‘eco-lyrics’. The aim was to analyse the representation of the state of the natural environment and the hometown in the lyrics of Japanese children's songs and the value that Japanese society inculcates to their children in relation to the natural environment. The two songs chosen were furusato and kokyou no sora. As a qualitative-descriptive study, this paper focuses on the intertextual discussion using the coherence approach of Ramlan (1993) and the semantic product of Burnett (2003). The result are a representation of the natural environment for the Japanese society in two douyou consisting of a thick traditionality, a place of longing, a place where family and friends live, a place to return home, a place that is beautiful and blends with nature, a comfortable and beautiful place. Then the values embedded in his children consist of emotional semantics, empirical semantics, origin semantics, contextual semantics, and functional semantics.

Abstract

The grammatical category that shows the relationship between the subject is diathesis. From the researcher’s observations, it was found that Japanese students used diathesis errors in the city of Medan. Therefore, this study discusses what forms of errors are and how Japanese universities students in Medan make the error in using diathesis forms. The specific purpose of this study is to analyze and determine the forms and patterns of errors in using the diathesis (態/tai) that it becomes a consideration for Japanese language lecturers to provide more effective teaching for Japanese learners, especially universities students in Medan. The types of diathesis sentences analyzed are judoutai (passive diathesis), Shieki (causative), kiboubun (wish form), and jujubun (expression of give-take). This research is descriptive qualitative research with error analysis. The data were sentences using diathesis (tai), sourced from written text made by 30 senior students of the Japanese department at the Universitas Sumatera Utara and the Universitas Harapan Medan. In conclusion, the form of error has been found in passive (受 身), a causative (使役), and the expression of the give-take action (授受表現) diathesis, which is realized grammatically and lexically. Errors include changing verbs, using particles (joshi), and assigning word unit functions to sentences. This study concludes that understanding and practice on the ukemi, shieki, and jujubun diathesis is needed in Japanese language learning among university students in Medan to improve student skills

Abstract

(Title: Semantic Structures Of Kiru ‘Cut’ Verbs) This study aims to analyze the categorization and meaning of the kiru "cut" verbs by Natural Semantic Metalangue theory. This research uses a qualitative approach. The categorization and meaning are analyzed by the Natural Semantic Metalangue Theory. Data collection is done by competent methods. Data analysis uses the identity and distributional methods. The presentation of data results is done by formal and informal methods. There are 21 kiru ‘cut’ verbs. The results showed that the kiru ‘cut’ verbs consisted of two categories seen from the Indonesian and Japanese semantic prime table, namely 1) 'X does something to someone’ divided into two subcategories, namely 1.1) 'X does something to someone with something’ and 1.2)'X does something on someone in a certain time' and 2) 'X doing something on something’ is divided into two subcategories, namely 2.1)'X does something on something with something’ and 2.2) 'X does something on something in a certain time'. Furthermore, the meaning of the kiru ‘cut’ verbs are formed by the original meaning of doing (suru) and happening (okoru/okiru) which combine to form the syntax of universal meaning ‘X do something on Y, something happens to Y’.
