Abstract

Speaking skills are generally perceived as the measurement of the success of English Language Teaching (ELT), yet these skills are considered very hard to achieve. In fact, there have been different levels of speaking proficiencies among students. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the oral production learning strategies used by high and low proficiency English Education students. The design of this study was descriptive qualitative. The third semester English Education students of Universitas PGRI Kanjuruhan Malang were included. In collecting the data, the researchers used three instruments, especially a speaking test, documentation, questionnaires, and interview. The results show that the students with high speaking proficiency have higher motivation and use all kinds of strategies in the same frequency. Meanwhile, the students with low speaking proficiency use metacognitive, cognitive, and memory strategies. However, they did not use these strategies with the same frequency, where the lowest percentage of strategies used were affective and compensatory. The results suggest that students should choose learning strategies based on their needs. Students should use all learning strategies to improve their speaking skills. The implications and suggestions of the research are also discussed.

Abstract

The online teaching-learning process mainly means the absence of physical interaction between teachers and students. In this context, the existence of the Web. 2.0-based technologies is expected to bridge the distance between teacher-student and student-student communication. Somehow, it will be a big problem if the teachers do not administer online learning well and appropriately. The facts show that online learning still faces some obstacles, such as the quality of the Internet connection and teacher-student and student-student interaction, including the media applied in the teaching-learning process. Thus, the present community service that involved 30 teachers of elementary schools aims at empowering the teachers with the ability to create interactive media. This activity covers briefing, lecture, demonstration, and workshop on interactive media, such as PowerPoint Presentation (PPT) with voice, Kahoot, and Padlet. The results demonstrate that teachers believe that interactive online learning is not as complicated as they thought and applied in the classrooms.

Abstract

The current research focused into the possible advantages of using Canva apps to improve writing abilities among kinesthetic, visual, and auditory learners. the objectives study of this research are: 1) To find out the effectiveness of using Canva had better achievements in writing recount texts than those taught by using picture series, 2) To find out whether learning styles affect achievement in writing by using Canva. Two classes were chosen at random to serve as the control and experimental groups. Canva was used to teach the experimental group, while non-computer-based instruction was used for the control group. To assess the efficacy of Canva use, a posttest was given following six sessions. The results indicated a significant improvement in writing achievements for students taught by using Canva compared to those without (sig. 0.000 ≤ sig. 0.05). Students that were taught using Canva had an N-Gain score of 0.52. It showed that using Canva to raise students' performance was successful, putting it in the middle range. Additionally, a factorial approach using a two-way ANOVA was employed to ascertain whether learning styles have an impact on Canva writing achievement. A significance value of 0.004 (sig. 0.004 < 0.05) was found by the computation. This led to the study’s implication that students' use of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles enhances their academic performance. The study's findings also indicate that employing media based on students' learning styles is a significant factor in improving their skills.

Abstract

The transition from preservice to professional teacher requires more than theoretical mastery, but demands reflective engagement with actual classroom practice. This paper discusses how video-based reflection in teaching practicum enhances preservice teacher professional quality. Twenty-five preservice teachers in a micro-teaching program underwent a guided intervention in the form of video-recorded lessons, guided reflection, and semi-structured interviews. Data were thematically analyzed using NVivo. The findings showed that video reflection supported three dimensions of professional growth: skills development, identity formation, and confidence building. Participants moved from surface level consciousness of anxiety, classroom management issues, and teaching shortcomings to tangible improvement plans such as media redesign, rehearsal, and language enhancement. Video recordings provided substantial evidence connecting theory and practice to promote a growth mindset and long-term professional goals. These results underscore the value of incorporating guided video reflection within teacher education curricula as a transformative approach to building reflective practices and to advancing preservice teacher journey toward professionalization. It implies that professional development takes time and deep reflection which preservice teachers have to do as their trajectories before being good teachers in the future. Ultimately, self-reflection, when supported by video-based and guided reflection, can transform performance episodes into meaningful pathways for developing teaching proficiency.
