Abstract

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is essential for creating asafe, comfortable, andhealthy work environment. Its main goal is to prevent workplace accidents and occupational diseases that can endanger lives and reduce productivity. This study examines the relationship between OSH and workplace accidents among firefighters in Pekanbaru City from 2022 to 2024. Using an observational method with a quantitative analytic approach and a cross-sectional design, 163 respondents participated. Data analysis included univariate and bivariate techniques. The results show significant relationships between workplace accidents and OSH knowledge (p=0.014), OSH training (p=0.013), availability of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (p=0.002), and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) (p=0.011). However, work fatigue showed no significant effect (p=0.531). Based on these findings, it is recommended that institutions enhance OSH training, education, PPE provision, and consistent SOP enforcement to reduce workplace accidents and improve overall safety and health among firefighters.

Abstract

The risk of hazards in the household is quite a lot, such as electrical cables containing potential hazards, if there are parts that are peeled off, then the cable is at risk of causing a short circuit which may result in a fatal fire. In this case, the role of residents is important to know and understand the existence of hazards because they are faced with these hazards every day, as well as gas cylinder/hose leaks, cleanliness of living rooms, kitchens, beds and bathrooms, storage and use of hazardous chemicals or perhaps pet feces, etc. All of these become important to understand about Occupational Safety and Health (OHS). All of these make it important to understand Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) in a domestic setting. There are many examples that we can see from various television news or other media. Most house fires are caused by work accidents either by household assistants or family members who live in the house. Damage to electrical/electronic equipment or leakage of gas cylinders/hoses is also caused by ignorance or neglect of factors that are at risk of causing accidents in the workplace and will ultimately threaten the safety of the residents of the house. Therefore, we provide community service information about household occupational health safety to participants in healthy gymnastics organized every Sunday morning by residents in RT 02 RW 18 Mentangor housing, Kulim, Pekanbaru in the hope that it can increase knowledge in homeowners and households.

The purpose of this community service is to increase the knowledge of the elderly about health, namely by doing rheumatic prevention and exercises. The media is used for counseling leaflets and practicing rheumatic gymnastics movements. The method used is by giving post-tests and pret-tests. The results of this activity obtained elderly knowledge at the time of the Pret Test as much as 40% had poor knowledge and increased during the post-test by 70% with good knowledge.  It is hoped that increasing knowledge and doing rheumatic gymnastics movements at the integrated service post and at home can prevent or reduce rheumatic symptoms in the elderly.
