Abstract

Prophetic Hadith is the second primary source of Islamic law after the Qur’an and plays a crucial role in Muslim life. Therefore, the preservation and transmission of Hadith in the early period of Islam became a major concern of the Companions of the Prophet and subsequent generations. This article aims to examine the development of Prophetic Hadith during the periods of the Companions and the Tabi’in, focusing on methods of preservation, challenges encountered, and their impact on the emergence of Hadith sciences. This study employs a literature review method by analyzing classical and contemporary works in the field of Hadith studies. The findings indicate that during the period of the Companions, Hadith was preserved primarily through memorization, limited written documentation, and a cautious approach to transmission. In the period of the Tabi’in, greater emphasis was placed on the chain of transmission (isnad), along with the emergence of narrator criticism in response to political and social challenges. Both generations played a fundamental role in safeguarding the authenticity of Hadith and establishing the methodological foundation for the subsequent codification of Hadith.

Abstract

Muhammadiyah is one of the largest Islamic organizations in Indonesia, founded as a reformist movement (tajdid) based on the Qur’an and Sunnah. Since its establishment by KH. Ahmad Dahlan in 1912, Muhammadiyah has demonstrated a distinctive identity as a modern, rational, and progressive Islamic movement. This article aims to comprehensively examine the identity of the Muhammadiyah movement, including its basic concepts, formative values and principles, as well as its challenges and relevance in the modern era. The method employed is a literature study using a descriptive-analytical approach to various Kemuhammadiyahan-related sources. The findings indicate that Muhammadiyah’s identity is constructed upon the principles of purification of Islamic teachings, reform (tajdid), rationality, moderation, independence, and social concern manifested through charitable enterprises. Amid the challenges of globalization, digitalization, and contemporary religious dynamics, the concept of Progressive Islam (Islam Berkemajuan) promoted by Muhammadiyah remains relevant and contributes significantly to building a religious, progressive, and civilized society.

Abstract

Teaching descriptive texts at the junior high school level often faces challenges due to teacher-centered learning, which limits students’ active involvement and writing development. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PJBL) model in descriptive text instruction and to analyze students’ learning outcomes. This research employed a descriptive method with qualitative and quantitative approaches. The data consisted of daily assessment scores of descriptive writing from 32 ninth-grade students and were collected through documentation. Data analysis involved calculating the class average score and categorizing students’ achievement into low, medium, and high groups. The results showed that the class average score reached 89.97, indicating a good level of achievement. Most students were classified into the medium and high categories, while only a small number were in the low category. These findings indicate that Project Based Learning effectively supports students’ descriptive writing performance and learning achievement.

Abstract

The modernization of Islamic educational institutions has become a crucial issue in line with social change, scientific developments, and advances in digital technology. This study aims to examine the concept, direction, and practice of modernizing Islamic education through the reintegration of knowledge, renewal of thinking and learning methods, improvement of educational quality, and the role of Islamic education in facing the challenges of modernization. The study uses a qualitative approach through a literature review by analyzing scientific books, academic journals, and relevant documents. The results of the study indicate that the modernization of Islamic education is directed at unifying religious knowledge and general knowledge within a unified scientific framework, developing progressive and inclusive learning methods, improving teacher competency and adapting curriculum based on Islamic values, and strengthening digital literacy and Islamic ethics for students. Modernization practices in modern Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), science and technology-based Islamic schools, and Islamic community organizations demonstrate that educational reform can go hand in hand with the strengthening of Islamic identity. This study confirms that the modernization of Islamic education is an adaptive and sustainable process focused on developing a generation that is knowledgeable, moral, and plays an active role in modern society.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the strategic role of the Islamic kingdoms of the early 13th–17th centuries in shaping the foundations of the economy, power, and civilization of the Indonesian archipelago, which has not been fully studied through a historical education approach. This research aims to analyze the relationship between the foundations of Islamic economics and the dynamics of the ebb and flow of power of the Samudera Pasai, Malacca, and Aceh Darussalam Kingdoms and their relevance for the development of history learning. The method used is qualitative research with a descriptive-analytical character through a historical approach and history education, using secondary data sourced from historical chronicles, legal manuscripts, traveler's notes, as well as scientific literature and reputable journals. The research findings show that an Islamic economy based on international trade, port governance, currency, the Baitul Mal (the Islamic treasury), and religious legitimacy formed the primary basis for the formation and strengthening of the power of these three kingdoms. Samudera Pasai emerged as a pioneer of Islamic economics and education, Malacca as the center of maritime hegemony and Islamic law, while Aceh Darussalam developed as a political, economic, and intellectual power oriented toward colonial resistance. The research findings confirm that the decline of these kingdoms was influenced by internal conflict and global geopolitical pressures. The implications of this research enrich the historiography of Islam in the Indonesian archipelago while providing a practical contribution to history education through the development of contextual, critical teaching materials that are rich in economic values, power, and Islamic-national identity.

Abstract

This study investigates how young children at Tadika Raudhah Bara'qinul Eiman (RBE) Preschool in Penang, Malaysia, use the principles of the Prophet's Sunnah. In August 2025, semi-structured teacher interviews, participant observation, and documentation analysis were used to gather data using a qualitative descriptive technique. The results show that through habituation, role modeling, and organized play-based activities, fundamental Sunnah values such as eating and drinking while seated, using courteous expressions (such as "please," "sorry," "thank you," and "excuse me"), honesty, and compassion are methodically incorporated into daily routines. While active parental participation via communication platforms like WhatsApp groups fosters consistency between the home and school environments, teachers operate as the main role models. While problems include variable parental engagement and inconsistent kid responsiveness, supporting elements include a supportive Islamic environment and consistent guidance. The study comes to the conclusion that this preschool's Sunnah-based character education successfully promotes the development of early Islamic personalities and provides a model that other Islamic early childhood institutions might follow. This study adds to the body of knowledge on Sunnah-based moral teaching both conceptually and practically by offering parents and teachers useful tactics.

Abstract

Qur’anic exegesis (tafsir) constitutes a significant component of the Islamic intellectual tradition and has continuously developed in response to the social, intellectual, and historical dynamics of the Muslim community. This article aims to examine the historical development of Qur’anic exegesis during the era of the tābi‘īn and the early period of codification, as well as its contribution to the growth of Islamic scholarship. This study employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, emphasizing historical and descriptive-analytical analysis of classical and contemporary tafsir literature. The findings indicate that during the era of the tābi‘īn, Qur’anic interpretation was predominantly characterized by tafsir bi al- ma’thūr, which relied on the Qur’an itself, the Prophetic traditions (hadith), and the reports of the Companions, although limited forms of ijtihād began to emerge in response to the increasingly complex needs of the Muslim community. The development of tafsir during this period was also marked by the emergence of tafsir schools in various Islamic regions, such as Mecca, Medina, and Iraq, each exhibiting distinctive interpretative tendencies. Furthermore, the early codification of Qur’anic exegesis represents a crucial milestone in the history of tafsir, as it played a vital role in preserving the authenticity of interpretation, expanding the transmission of knowledge, and laying the foundation for tafsir as an independent and systematic scholarly discipline. Thus, the era of the tābi‘īn and the early codification period constitute fundamental phases that shaped the direction, methodology, and scholarly tradition of Qur’anic exegesis within the Islamic intellectual heritage.

Abstract

English language teaching in rural schools often encounters substantial challenges that hinder effective learning. This study investigates the challenges and strategies of English language teaching at UPT SMPN Satu Atap Kebun Tinggi, located in Kampar Kiri Hulu Subdistrict, Kampar Regency, Riau Province. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews involving four key informants (an English teacher, a student, a school management staff member, and the vice principal), classroom observations, and documentation. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by methodological triangulation to ensure credibility. The findings indicate four major challenges: inadequate learning facilities, students’ low self-confidence in using English, geographical barriers affecting school access, and a shortage of qualified English teachers. To address these challenges, the school implemented several strategies, including continuous teacher professional development, adaptive use of available technology, and collaboration with local government and the community. These strategies helped sustain English learning activities despite existing limitations, highlighting the importance of contextual and integrated support for improving English language teaching in rural education settings.
