Abstract

Hematological analysis in cattle is an important basis for determining physiological conditions, biomedical study, and veterinary clinical diagnosis. This study aimed to determine the comparison of hematological values between Simmental-Ongole crossbreed (SimPO) and Ongole crossbreed (PO) cattle reared semi-intensively in oil palm plantations area. A total of 70 blood samples were collected from 35 female SimPO and 35 female PO cattle aged ± 3,5 years who reared from the same area. Blood samples were collected via the coccygeal vein as much as 3 ml, performed at 07.00 in the morning before being grazed on oil palm plantations. Blood samples were collected using a vacutainer tube containing Ethylene Diamine Tetra-Acetic Acid (EDTA) for further analysis using a hematology analyzer. Data from hematological examination results were then analyzed using an independent sample t-test with a significance level of p < 0,05. In results, reported that there were no significant differences in several hematological parameters that have been analyzed. We can conclude that there was no substantial hematological level in the SimPO and PO cattle reared semi-intensively on oil palm plantations.

Abstract

One of the impacts of foot and mouth disease (FMD) on the dairy farming sector is decreasing the quantity and quality of milk production. This study aimed to determine the impact of FMD by observing the productivity and quality of fresh milk during FMD outbreaks. Sampling was performed to obtain productivity data before and during the FMD outbreak using the cluster sampling method in five areas in KUD Kertajaya, Kediri, Indonesia. The lactoscan test was used to analyze the quality of fresh milk from 50 positive samples. Based on the statistical analysis using the paired parametric T-test, it was reported that there was a significant difference in milk productivity before and during the FMD outbreak (p < 0,05). The results of the Lactoscan test on 50 positive samples showed an average fat content of 4,43%, solid nonfat (SNF) content of 8,54%, specific gravity of 1,028, lactose content of 4,67%, total solids content of 12,97%, added water content of 1,44 and freezing point of -0,54°C. In conclusion, the milk of dairy cows during the FMD outbreak often displayed a quality value of milk that met SNI requirements, despite the fact that there was a major decline in productivity.

Abstract

A particular type of tumor that is frequently detected in female dogs who are sexually active is a mammary tumor. Neoplasia results from DNA-based alterations in cell cycle regulating genes. The mammary gland is prone to the formation of tumors due to its dynamic structure. The development of this tumor is supported by numerous variables. It has been recently discovered that there is substantial evidence linking the BRCA2 gene to the process of cancer. Standard examination techniques, such as fine needle aspiration, histopathology, and immunohistochemistry, are used along with ancillary tests to determine the tumor type and degree of malignancy. The primary treatment option for malignant tumors is surgical resection followed by adjuvant chemotherapy; benign tumors necessitate surgical resection as well. Adjuvant therapy options include hormone therapy and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications. Tumor tissue undergoes angiogenesis as it grows and develops to accommodate the abundant supply of nutrients. Therefore, angiogenesis-inhibiting therapies can be utilized to halt the growth of tumor cells. A number of antiangiogenic medications are now being studied in clinical settings on humans, and several more are undergoing trials on animals. In addition to pharmaceuticals, viruses may be used as a therapeutic to block tumor angiogenesis.

Abstract

The semen quality of Gembrong goats is lower than other goats and may be related to the low concentration of testosterone hormone. Implementation of reproductive technology using prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) hormone is beneficial to increase the testosterone hormone in Gembrong goats. This study aimed to determine the effect of PGF2α injection on increasing testosterone levels in Gembrong goats. Male Gembrong goats (n=4), aged 2.5-4 years with similar body condition scores (BCS=3) were used in this study. Goats were divided into two treatment groups (n=2). Goats in group 1 (G1) were injected intramuscularly with 1 ml PGF2α (75 μg), while those in group 2 (G2) were injected with 1 ml physiological NaCl. Semen collection was carried out 30 minutes after treatment using an artificial vagina. Testosterone levels were measured using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The collected data was tabulated and analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the average testosterone concentration of G1 was higher than G2 with respective concentrations of 6.41 ± 0.70 and 2.81 ± 1.75 ng/ml. It was concluded that administration of PGF2α in vivo could increase testosterone concentration in Gembrong goats.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of oregano extract ointment therapy on the number of fibroblast cells and the epidermal thickness in excised wounds. The experimental animals used were 20 male Wistar strain albino rats, 12 weeks old, weighing 100–150 g, divided into 5 treatment groups i.e., (C-) not excised and without ointment, (C+) excised and without ointment, and the treatment group were excised using a 5 x 5 mm biopsy punch and treated with oregano extract ointment using concentrations of (T1) 3%, (T2) 6% and (T3) 9% twice daily for 14 days in an excised wound. The variables observed in this study were the number of fibroblast cells and the epidermal thickness by the HE staining method then measured using ImageJ. Data analysis used the One-Way ANOVA test followed by the Tukey test (p < 0,05). The results showed a decrease in the number of fibroblast cells and an increase in the epidermal thickness in the 6% concentration ointment. This study concluded that the administration of oregano extract ointment with a concentration of 6% was the optimal concentration in accelerating the final proliferative phase, characterized by a decrease in fibroblast cells and an increase in epidermal thickness.

Abstract

Carassius auratus is one of the potential ornamental freshwater fish in Indonesia. The potential of this fish increases along with the dominance of the colors produced during cultivation. We have demonstrated to treat differences in the light spectrum to increase the brightness of the colors. Completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 4 replications as the design i.e., (P1) negative control with no LED, (P2) positive control using white LED light and a room light intensity, (P3) red LED, (P4) green LED, and (P5) blue LED. We reported that the red LED was the light spectrum that produced the best treatment to increase the color brightness and growth of goldfish. The brightness level of the color in the P3 treatment was 63,04% as measured by Adobe Photoshop; using the M-TCF method, it was 8,94% body color, 9,37% dorsal fin, and 9,31% tail fin. Meanwhile, the best specific growth rate were found in P5 followed by P3 treatment in a row of 5,33 ± 0,66b, 3,46 ± 0,57ab, respectively. The red color spectrum produced the best pigmentation but the blue color spectrum was the best for the growth of C. auratus.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of time differences on motility, viability, abnormality, and intact plasma membrane of spermatozoa of Sapera goats before freezing. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three settings, namely the equilibration time P1 (1 h), P2 (3 h), and P3 (4 h), each of six replications. The results of motility using One Way Anova statistical analysis through the Duncan Test were (P1) 71.50 ± 3.94, (P2) 66.00 ± 2.60, and (P3) 60.33 ± 2.42. The results of viability was (P1) 83.00 ± 6.16, (P2) 75.17 ± 4.70, and (P3) 69.00 ± 3.40. Abnormal results was (P1) 2.50 ± 0.55, (P2) 3.33 ± 1.18, and (P3) 6.50 ± 2.88. While the results of intact plasma membranes were (P1) 79.50 ± 8.50, (P2) 72.67 ± 5.28, and (P3) 65.67 ± 3.78. The conclusion of the study showed significant significant results (p<0,05) between the equilibration time and spermatozoa quality of Sapera goats before freezing. The highest presentation of motility, viability and overall plasma membrane was at an equilibration time of 1 h, while the lowest abnormality presentation was at equilibration time of 1 h.

Abstract

This study was conducted to know the influence of grass to concentrate ratio to milk urea nitrogen (MUN) level, progesterone level and pregnancy status in Friesian Holstein. A total of 18 dairy cows were randomly selected from the population. The cows were grouped based on feed and MUN and pregnancy. Milk sample collection was carried out once on the seventh day after estrus (D7) and tested with the Barthelot method for measuring urea nitrogen levels. Blood samples were taken three times, on the day of estrus (D0), seven days after estrus (D7), and twenty-two days after estrus (D22), and were tested using Immuno-Sorbent Assay (ELISA). Pregnancy examination was carried out at D90 after artificial insemination through rectal palpation. Based on the analysis, grass to concentrate ratio, progesterone level and MUN level showed no significant difference (p>0.05) but it showed significantly different on milk yield (p<0,05). Based on pregnancy status, progesterone level at D22 showed significantly different whereas at D0 and D7 showed insignificantly different. MUN level and grass to concentrate level also showed significantly different. It can be concluded that the ratio of grass and concentrate did not increase MUN level, progesterone level and pregnancy rate.
