Abstract

This study aims to describe community perceptions of the challenges and support in children's education in Puteng Village, Teriak District, Bengkayang Regency. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, data were obtained through a closed-ended questionnaire distributed to 50 respondents who met the purposive sampling criteria. The results indicate that the majority of the community experiences serious obstacles in social, economic, and infrastructure aspects that affect children's education. Barriers such as an unsupportive social environment, peer pressure, lack of public facilities, difficult road access, and limited parental education are dominant factors that hinder children's learning process. However, strong resilience was also found in families, demonstrated by the high commitment of parents to continue accompanying and motivating children to be enthusiastic about school. Support from the community, traditional leaders, schools, and the government is still relatively low, so cross-sector synergy is needed to create a more inclusive and equitable education system in remote areas.

Abstract

Banda Neira has a central role in the birth of Indonesia as a country with the motto of Bhineka Tunggal ika. Banda Neira is often positioned as the "zero point" of colonialism as well as a laboratory of Indonesian multiculturalism. With a history of genocide, forced migration, and complex new identity formation, on the other hand Banda shows how to validate trauma while celebrating resilience and hope. In the context of multicultural education, in Banda Neira we can learn about diversity but also respects unity. Glorifying the heritage of history, as well as moving forward in a coherent education according to the uncertain demands of global education. In this context, early grade reading literacy can be used as a crucial space to reconstruct historical memory, manage trauma, resilience, and foster pride in the identity of Banda children who live in a plural reality. This paper examines multicultural education in Banda Neira from the perspective of educational philosophy, especially the ideas of Dewey, Piaget, Vygotsky, Bandura, and Freire, and relates it to the practice of early grade reading literacy and the gap between conceptual- ideals and realities in the field. In particular, the analysis is directed at the phenomenon of Banda children who are familiar with the tagline "don't die before going to Banda Neira", but do not necessarily internalize the philosophical and historical meaning behind the pride. With a qualitative-reflective approach based on literature review, this article shows that Freire's dialogical and critical multicultural education, starting with early grade reading literacy, has the potential to transform popular slogans into historical awareness, resilient collective identities, and liberating pedagogical praxis.

Abstract

Land degradation and forest area deterioration in Sumbawa Regency continue to escalate due to unsustainable patterns of natural resource use. This condition requires a new approach that not only relies on state legal instruments but also strengthens social institutions and local wisdom that have long existed within the community. One of the systems that persists is the Lar tradition, a customary law–based mechanism for regulating grazing and land management that ensures a balance between rights, responsibilities, and environmental sustainability. This study aims to validate the concept of customary law within the Sumbawa Lar tradition as a model for addressing critical land in forest areas. The research employs a juridical-sociological approach through field observations, interviews with customary leaders and forestry managers, and qualitative analysis of social practices and customary values that shape the Lar system. The findings indicate that the Lar tradition functions as a living law that embodies regulatory, conservative, and restorative norms in natural resource management. The implementation of this system has proven to enhance community participation and increase the effectiveness of critical land rehabilitation in limited production forest areas. The novelty of this research lies in developing the concept of validating Lar customary law as a community-based model for managing critical land that can be integrated into social forestry policies, thereby strengthening collaboration between customary law and state law in maintaining forest ecosystem sustainability.

Abstract

Social conflict is an inevitable aspect of community life, which, if not properly managed, can result in social, economic, and psychological losses. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the compromise approach as an intervention model for resolving social conflicts in Kumbe Village, Rasanae Timur District, Bima City. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study method, involving informants from community leaders, village officials, police officers, mediators, conflict actors, and affected residents. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, with validity ensured through triangulation and member checking. The findings indicate that the Head of Kumbe Village consistently applied two conflict resolution styles: accommodation and compromise. The accommodation style is characterized by cooperation, openness to input, providing space for other parties, and maintaining harmony, which fosters a peaceful atmosphere and reduces tension. The compromise style is implemented through a give-and-take principle, emphasis on common ground, temporary resolutions in urgent situations, and practical decision-making, allowing conflicts to be resolved quickly, fairly, and acceptably to all parties. This study confirms that the compromise approach serves as an effective intervention model for managing social conflicts at the village level.

Abstract

This journal article reflects on the results of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) legislative elections, which left several important notes, particularly regarding the party's weaknesses in the religious sphere. Negative sentiment about religion still clings to the party despite its three consecutive victories in the 2014, 2019, and 2024 legislative elections. In an ideological context, PDI-P has consistently maintained and upheld its ideology, even in unfavorable situations. However, on the other hand, PDI-P is faced with a party image that is not as good as its vote acquisition, as well as political attitudes, party policies, and political communication that still need improvement. Using qualitative research methods, the findings and results of the study indicate that PDI-P can maintain its ideology by limiting its reach to a segment of conservative Muslim voters or try to move towards the center and expand its mass base to all sectors, at the risk of sacrificing the ideology they have long adhered to.
