Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of flipbook media on the critical thinking and descriptive writing skills of fifth-grade elementary school students. This research used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a nonequivalent control group design. The research subjects were 48 fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 12 Sungai Kunyit, consisting of 24 students in the experimental class and 24 students in the control class. The experimental class received instruction using flipbook media, while the control class used conventional media. Data were collected through critical thinking tests, descriptive writing tests, observation sheets, and documentation. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Levene's homogeneity test, independent samples t-test, and Cohen's d effect size. The results showed a significant difference between the experimental and control classes in both critical thinking and descriptive writing skills, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. The effect size was large for critical thinking (d = 1.12) and descriptive writing (d = 0.95). Therefore, flipbook media was proven effective in improving students' critical thinking and descriptive writing skills. This study concludes that flipbook media can be used as an innovative digital learning resource to support Indonesian language learning and higher-order thinking skills in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of a blended learning-based parenting model in enhancing parents’ understanding and involvement in a nonformal early childhood education setting. This study employed a descriptive quantitative approach using a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The research population consisted of parents and educators at nonformal early childhood education institutions in Cianjur Regency, Indonesia, with the study specifically conducted at PAUD Al Faqih. A sample of 25 active participants in the parenting program was selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques. The results indicate that the blended learning–based parenting model achieved a feasibility score of 4.2, categorized as feasible. Furthermore, post-test findings demonstrate a substantial improvement in parents’ understanding of positive parenting practices, effective communication, and their roles as primary educators for their children. These findings suggest that the blended learning–based parenting model is effective as an alternative strategy for strengthening parental involvement in nonformal early childhood education.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze and develop the concept of intergenerational retreat programs as a form of comprehensive Christian Religious Education (PAK), as well as explain its contribution to the formation of spirituality and intergenerational relations in church life. This research uses a qualitative method with a library research approach that is a conceptual paper. Data was obtained from various sources of scientific literature in the form of books, national and international journal articles, and other academic references published in the 2014–2024 range. The literature was obtained through searches on Google Scholar databases, ResearchGate, Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and BASE, with a focus on Christian religious education practices and intergenerational retreats in the context of churches in Indonesia. Data analysis was carried out using content analysis techniques through the stages of data reduction, theme categorization, and conceptual synthesis. The results of the study show that intergenerational retreats are a comprehensive model of Christian religious education because they integrate cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects in one faith learning experience. In addition, this model is able to strengthen spirituality, build intergenerational relationships, and overcome the tendency of age segregation in church service. Thus, intergenerational retreats can be a strategic alternative for churches in Indonesia in developing inclusive, participatory, and sustainable Christian religious education.

Abstract

This article examines the implementation of madrasah principal governance based on Regulation of the Minister of Religious Affairs Number 24 of 2018 in Majene Regency, focusing on planning, implementation, evaluation, and its impact on educational quality. The study employed a qualitative multi-site design involving six public and private madrasahs at the MI, MTs, and MA levels. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Informants included the Head of the Majene Regency Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Head of the Madrasah Education Section, the Chairperson of the Supervisory Working Group, madrasah supervisors, and madrasah principals. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings show that the regulation provides a clear legal framework and recruitment mechanism. However, regulatory dissemination, competency development, and principal performance evaluation have not been implemented evenly, particularly in private madrasahs. Public madrasah principals are recruited through open competitive selection, while private madrasah principals are appointed by foundations in coordination with the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Competency development involves collaboration among provincial and regency religious affairs offices and the Makassar Religious Training Center, but it has not reached all principals equally. The implementation of principal performance assessment is also inconsistent. Overall, the regulation has contributed positively to leadership governance and educational quality, although disparities between public and private madrasahs remain.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the Child-Friendly Islamic Boarding School (PRA) policy through a multisite study at the Bahrul Hidayah Islamic Boarding School in Sidoarjo Regency and the Daruttaqwa 1 Islamic Boarding School in Gresik Regency, East Java. These two boarding schools were selected because they represent a hybrid typology that combines Salafi traditions, modern educational systems, and Middle Eastern educational influences. The evaluation was conducted using James E. Anderson’s framework, which encompasses the dimensions of policy substance, policy implementation, and policy impact. This study employed a qualitative approach with a multisite study design. The data consisted of primary and secondary data. Primary data were obtained through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and analysis of institutional documents and regulations related to the PRA policy, while secondary data were obtained from scientific articles, books, regulations, and other relevant publications. Data analysis utilized the interactive model proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which includes data condensation, data presentation, and the drawing and verification of conclusions. Data validity was ensured through triangulation of sources and techniques, member checks, and peer discussions. The research findings indicate that both Islamic boarding schools have understood the substance of the PRA policy and implemented various key components, such as replacing corporal punishment with a p pproach, constructive guidance, internal complaint mechanisms, and outreach programs. However, the formal establishment of a PRA Task Force has not yet been carried out in accordance with regulatory provisions. The implementation of the policy has also had positive impacts, including a decrease in bullying, increased openness among students, and the development of a more dialogic and humanistic parenting style. This study concludes that the implementation of PRA has shown significant progress, although it still requires strengthening through outreach, training, and continuous monitoring by the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Abstract

Grit is an individual's ability to maintain perseverance and commitment in achieving long-term goals. Low grit among students results in decreased motivation to learn, reduced academic responsibility, and an increased risk of dropping out of school. This study aims to examine the effects of mindfulness and self-compassion on grit among Islamic elementary school students. The study used a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The study subjects consisted of 267 students in grades 4, 5, and 6 from Islamic elementary schools in the provinces of East Java and Central Java. Data were obtained through the distribution of psychological scales adapted from the Child and Adolescent Mindfulness Measure (CAMM), the Self-Compassion Scale Short Form for Children (SCS-SF-C), and the Grit Scale for Elementary School. Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression. The results showed that mindfulness and self-compassion significantly influenced students' grit. These findings suggest that students' ability to recognize their experiences without judgment and treat themselves well fully contributes to the formation of perseverance in achieving goals. This study recommends developing a mindfulness- and self-compassion-based guidance and counseling service program, integrated with Islamic values , to improve students' grit.

Abstract

Social piety is an important dimension in Islamic education because it connects individual religiosity with social responsibility in a multicultural society. This research aims to analyze the concept of social piety in the Qur'an through the perspective of educational interpretation and formulate its implications for strengthening Islamic character education. This research uses a qualitative approach with the type of literature research. Data is obtained from verses of the Qur'an related to social piety, such as QS. al-Baqarah [2]: 177, QS. al-Mā'ūn [107]: 1–7, QS. al-Ma'idah [5]: 2, QS. al-Naḥl [16]: 90, and QS. al-Ḥ ujurāt [49]: 10–13, as well as classical and contemporary tafsir books. The analysis was carried out in a descriptive-analytical manner with a thematic interpretation approach. The results of the study show that social piety in the Qur'an includes the integration of faith, worship, social concern, help, justice, ihsan, brotherhood, and respect for diversity. These values are the basis for Islamic character education that not only forms ritually obedient individuals, but also caring, fair, inclusive, and socially responsible. This study concludes that the educational interpretation of social piety can be the basis for strengthening Islamic character education in a multicultural society.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the reconstruction of a global Muslim identity by integrating Global Citizenship Education (GCED) values into the Islamic Religious Education curriculum. This study employed a qualitative case study approach at Universitas Islam Negeri K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan. Data were gathered through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, involving data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing using multi-level thematic coding techniques to abstract raw field data into a new typology of piety. Data validity was ensured through source, technical, and theoretical triangulation. The findings indicate that the integration of GCED is implemented through three main pillars: interfaith dialogue, ecological ethics, and universal social justice. The reconstruction of identity is achieved by synergizing the doctrine of Rahmatan lil 'Alamin (a mercy to all creation) with the principles of global human rights. This integration engenders a typology of Cosmopolitan Sufism, a form of individual ritual piety that goes hand in hand with an active concern for the fate of humanity on a global scale. As a preliminary proposition, this study offers a "glocal" (global-local) Islamic Religious Education curriculum model that strengthens religious moderation at the higher education level. Practically, institutions need to incrementally revise Islamic Religious Education course syllabi and textbooks by incorporating case studies of global crises and peace solutions based on wasathiyah Islamic values.

Abstract

This article develops Islamic Spiritual Well-Being (ISWB) as a conceptual framework for Islamic education. It examines the ontological foundations of the construct, the dimensions through which those foundations become educationally meaningful, and the points at which ISWB differs from established Western models. The study used qualitative library research and integrative conceptual analysis. Qur'anic verses, canonical Hadith, major works of Al-Ghazali, Al-Attas, Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, and Ibn 'Ata'illah al-Sakandari were read alongside contemporary scholarship on spirituality, Islamic psychology, and student well-being. Relevant propositions were documented, coded thematically, compared across sources, and synthesized into a conceptual structure. The analysis identifies three foundations Fitrah, Tawhid, and Khalifah—and five connected dimensions: Silah Billah, Tazkiyat al-Nafs, Maqasid al-Hayah, Ukhuwwah and Adab, and Sabr-Shukr. Rather than treating the relationship with Allah as a separate domain, ISWB places it within a tawhidic orientation that also shapes moral agency, purpose, social conduct, and resilience. The framework is offered as a theoretical basis for curriculum reflection, student guidance, and future scale development. Its educational and psychometric value, however, still requires empirical testing in diverse Islamic settings.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the influence of principals' academic supervision and teachers' professional development on the quality of learning in public elementary schools. The research was conducted in public elementary schools in Wanasari District, Brebes Regency, Indonesia. A quantitative approach with an ex post facto research design was employed. The population of teachers is 211 in Wanasari District, Brebes Regency. Proportional random sampling was used to ensure representation from each school. The study involved 138 teachers selected as the research sample. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed through descriptive statistical analysis and multiple linear regression. The results indicated that: (1) principals' academic supervision has a positive and statistically significant effect on the quality of learning; (2) teachers' professional development has a positive and statistically significant effect on the quality of learning; and (3) principals' academic supervision and teachers' professional development simultaneously have a positive and statistically significant effect on the quality of learning. These findings suggest that effective academic supervision by principals, together with continuous professional development of teachers, plays a significant role in improving the quality of learning in elementary schools. Therefore, strengthening academic supervision practices and promoting ongoing professional development are essential strategies for enhancing the quality of teaching and learning.
