Abstract

The quality of educational institutions is often measured by the competencies of their graduates, especially in teacher education programs. This study aims to evaluate the quality of graduates from the Early Childhood Education (PG-PAUD) program at Universitas Terbuka by assessing the satisfaction of school principals who supervise these alumni. The research addresses the challenge of ensuring that teacher education programs produce graduates equipped with the necessary competencies to meet the demands of early childhood education. Employing a qualitative tracer study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with ten school principals selected purposively based on their direct experience overseeing PG-PAUD UT alumni. The findings reveal that principals generally express satisfaction with the graduates’ performance, highlighting strengths such as high motivation, adaptability, effective communication, and teamwork skills. However, a notable weakness lies in graduates’ ability to utilize assessment data for planning child development, which principals attribute to a broader issue among early childhood educators. These results provide valuable insights for the PG-PAUD program, suggesting the need to enhance curriculum and training focused on assessment literacy and practical application, thereby better preparing future graduates for their professional roles.

Abstract

Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, this study aims to examine how e-book-based storytelling and meal preparation tasks help to boost food literacy in young children. Food literacy is essential for promoting lifelong well-being and establishing good eating patterns. Still, especially in early childhood education in Indonesia, integrated pedagogical methods combining digital storytelling with actual cooking activities are hardly ever used. This review analyzed fifteen peer-reviewed papers published between 2020 and 2025, gathered from Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Mendeley Research as well as other sources. According to the data, preschoolers are much more inclined to recognize, taste, and embrace nutritious food selections like fruits and vegetables when interactive e-books with vibrant photos and customized stories are employed. Concurrently, experiential learning helps kids develop their practical abilities, attitudes, and food knowledge through hands-on involvement in food preparation chores. Combining these two methods helps us to develop a comprehensive, interesting, and developmentally appropriate plan to promote food literacy in young children. This review offers insightful viewpoints for educators and politicians wanting to develop more participative and contextually suitable strategies in early childhood settings.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the impact of occupational sensory play on the fine motor skills of early childhood. The method used is a quantitative approach involving 30 children aged 5 to 6 years from RA Al-Hikmah Kedaton in Bandar Lampung. The sampling technique used was a purposive sampling method. Data were collected through various methods, including questionnaires to assess occupational sensory abilities and fine motor skills, observations to record children's behaviour during the intervention, and documentation to supplement the information. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics to provide an overview, t-tests to assess significance, and R² tests to determine the proportion of explained variance. The results indicate that certain components of sensory play particularly variable X7 have a significant impact on children's fine motor skills. However, overall, the application of occupational sensory play does not show statistical significance. The R² value indicates that the independent factors examined explain most of the variance in children's fine motor skills. These findings are useful for determining the effectiveness of sensory play therapy in early childhood development and emphasise the need for further research on specific activities that influence children's fine motor skills. This research adds value by identifying components of sensory play that have the potential to enhance fine motor skills, thus serving as a reference for future occupational therapy practices.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a teaching module based on local wisdom that can enhance cultural literacy in early childhood education at Al-Azzam Islamic Kindergarten in Makassar. Cultural literacy in early childhood is crucial for shaping children’s character and cultural identity; however, many early childhood education (ECE) teachers have not fully integrated local wisdom into their teaching. This research uses the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) to develop a teaching module that combines elements of local culture and technology to enhance children's engagement. The findings indicate that the developed teaching module based on local wisdom is effective in improving children's cultural literacy, with significant improvements in the recognition of cultural symbols, participation in cultural activities, and appreciation for cultural diversity. This study also emphasizes the importance of integrating local culture into the ECE curriculum as a way to enrich children's learning experiences and strengthen their character. These findings make a significant contribution to the development of a more contextually relevant ECE curriculum that aligns with the cultural background of children in Indonesia
