Abstract

Child marriage remains a social problem in Indonesia, especially in rural areas where the prevalence is high. Minimal socialization and low involvement of local institutions are factors that reinforce the occurrence of this practice. This community service aims to optimize the role of Karang Taruna as an agent of social change in efforts to prevent child marriage in Bakung Village, Ogan Ilir Regency. The implementation method included interactive socialization, participatory training, and evaluation. The results showed a significant increase in participants' understanding of the child marriage issue, with an average score increase of 65% between the pre-test and post-test. This activity successfully fostered collective awareness regarding the social, economic, and health impacts of child marriage, and strengthened the capacity of Karang Taruna as an education and advocacy facilitator at the community level. The active involvement of youth, support from the village government, and a collaborative approach proved effective in building a shared commitment to preventing the practice of child marriage at the grassroots level.

Abstract

Early detection of visual impairment in elementary school students is crucial for supporting academic achievement and child development. This community service activity aimed to increase the knowledge of teachers at SD Inpres Jongayya and Andi Tonro Makassar regarding the early detection of visual impairment. The method involved training and simulation on the use of the Snellen chart. Participant knowledge was evaluated using a pre-test and post-test design. The results showed an increase in teacher knowledge scores after the training, from an average pre-test score of 7.41 ± 1.570 to 7.79 ± 1.612 on the post-test. However, this increase was not statistically significant. This training provided an initial positive impact, but to ensure program sustainability, supporting efforts such as periodic supervision, provision of standard guidelines, and incentives for implementing teachers are necessary.

Abstract

This community service activity was executed to optimize digital marketing effectiveness and increase sales for the Amplang Bukuan Snack MSME in Samarinda. The main problem addressed was low brand visibility and insufficient online sales, resulting from sub-optimal utilization of social media. The intervention strategy implemented involved integrated training on: (1) optimizing social media (Instagram) and creating appealing visual content; (2) creating and managing an online store on the Shopee platform; and (3) implementing the non-cash payment system QRIS. The results of the service demonstrate a significant increase in digital performance and sales. Within two months following the intervention, the Instagram account’s engagement rate increased by 65%, accompanied by follower growth from 320 to 530. The average interaction per post (likes and comments) rose from 12 to 38, reflecting higher audience involvement. Simultaneously, the number of online orders via direct message (DM) increased by 28%. Furthermore, the MSME owner’s competency in digital marketing significantly improved, as shown by an increase in the knowledge assessment score from 56% to 84%. These findings indicate that the systematic optimization of social media content successfully enhanced brand visibility, directly contributed to sales growth, and strengthened the digital entrepreneurial capacity of MSME.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has revolutionized the dissemination of Islamic da’wah (proselytizing), necessitating young generations, particularly university students, to become adaptive and creative agents of da’wah utilizing digital media. However, limitations in technical skills and low levels of digital literacy and communication ethics remain serious challenges. This community service activity aimed to enhance the capacity of students in producing digital da’wah content that is informative, engaging, and consistent with the principles of moderate Islamic da’wah. The training program was conducted over three days using a participatory approach, covering digital literacy, content production techniques, and Islamic communication ethics. Evaluation results showed a significant increase in participants’ understanding, rising from an average score of 58.3 in the pre-test to 84.1 in the post-test, with an N-Gain score of 61.8%. Furthermore, 87% of participants successfully produced da’wah content in video format, and 73% of them established dedicated social media accounts to disseminate their da’wah content. This training proved effective in transforming students’ roles from passive consumers into active creators of digital da’wah.

Abstract

Smoking among adolescents is a pressing public health issue, considering its serious impact on physical and mental health during the developmental period. This community service activity aimed to increase knowledge, foster anti-smoking attitudes, and equip students with skills to refuse cigarettes. This intervention was conducted through socialization and education methods involving 90 students at SMPN 191 West Jakarta, followed by an evaluation. Initial evaluation results showed high risk factors in the students’ environment: 68.89% had smoking family members, 51.11% had been offered cigarettes by friends, and 8.89% of students admitted to having tried smoking. After the education was provided, the evaluation results showed that all students had a good understanding of the dangers of smoking and stated they would refuse if offered cigarettes. It was concluded that education and socialization are effective in increasing students’ knowledge and awareness. However, external risk factors such as family and peer influence remain a challenge, thus requiring sustained collaboration between the school, families, and the community.

Abstract

Indonesia's high vulnerability to earthquakes, which often results in severe damage and casualties, necessitates disaster risk mitigation efforts based on science and technology. This community service activity aimed to improve disaster technology literacy and students' understanding of the working principles of earthquake-resistant structures. The focus was on introducing base isolator (earthquake damper) technology made from natural rubber for residential buildings. This activity was conducted at SMKN 26 Jakarta using interactive presentations, technology demonstrations, and participative discussion methods. An evaluation of understanding was administered to 66 participants using a pre-test and post-test design. The evaluation results showed that 100% of participants experienced an increase in understanding and knowledge after the activity. This indicates that the technology demonstration-based educational approach is effective in supporting disaster technology literacy at the vocational high school level.

Abstract

Physical Education (PE) teachers play a central role as role models for a healthy lifestyle; however, PE teachers in Gowa Regency still face challenges, including fitness levels that tend to be moderate to low, coupled with minimal understanding and application of sport recovery techniques. This condition directly affects their teaching effectiveness and overall quality of life. This community service program aimed to address these issues by enhancing their physical fitness, mastery of sport recovery techniques, and development of community-based fitness entrepreneurship skills. The program employed an interactive training methodology consisting of socialization, direct practice, and continuous mentoring. The main activities involved 45 participants from the Subject Teacher Forum (MGMP) for PE in Gowa, followed by a three-month mentoring phase at their respective schools. The material taught included structured fitness exercises and post-exercise recovery techniques such as cool down, stretching, foam rolling, and simple cryotherapy. The results of the activity showed a substantial improvement in the teachers' fitness. The average general fitness score increased by 9.07% (from 18.22 to 19.88 points), and their VO2max capacity increased by 15%. Qualitatively, complaints of post-exercise muscle soreness decreased by 30% after the application of recovery techniques. The long-term impact of this activity is also evident in the formation of the Gowa Fit Teachers Community (KGBG) as a platform for sustainability. Furthermore, approximately 25% of the participants successfully started or developed community-based fitness ventures, such as community aerobics classes or sports massage services. The program proved effective in improving physical condition and understanding of sport recovery, while simultaneously creating new economic opportunities for PE teachers in Gowa Regency.
