Abstract

This study examines Japan's teacher professional development model, emphasizing teaching as a “craft” and its integration within an extensive in-service education system. It highlights the postwar evolution of teacher training in Japan, where universities play a pivotal role in preparing educators through an integrated system. The research explores assumptions about in-service education, detailing programs such as internal professional development, government-sponsored initiatives, and teacher-led networks. Unique to Japan is the peer-based model fostering collaboration among colleagues, enhancing “craft knowledge” through reflective practice and continuous training. This approach intertwines past professional practices with present applications, preparing for future teaching needs. The historical influence of the postwar American occupation shaped Japan's distinctive teacher education model, combining in-service and graduate-level programs to develop specialized competencies. The study also addresses critical issues, including teachers' intensified working hours, limited autonomy, and the stress linked to ongoing professional development. It underscores how teaching as a craft deeply embeds itself in Japanese teachers' lives, particularly at the elementary level, and identifies six themes influencing their development. Through a descriptive and analytical methodology supported by historical documents, empirical studies, and existing literature, the paper presents a comprehensive overview of Japan's professional development strategies, offering insights into its educational culture. These strategies, based on collaboration and reflective practice, serve as a valuable model for academic communities in Lebanon and the Arab world, highlighting the integration of traditional teaching concepts with modern professional training.

Abstract

This study explored the implementation of Kurikulum Merdeka (KM) in Indonesian Islamic schools (Madrasahs) by analyzing the compatibility of its implementation with Islamic educational values and its challenges and opportunities. The primary aims are to determine the alignment between KM principles and Islamic education, examine obstacles and recommend ways to effectively implement it in Madrasahs. This research synthesizes several academic articles, government policy documents, historical texts, and literature on curriculum development based on library research methods. Content analysis is used to uncover underlying themes, comparative analysis is used to assess compatibility with the curriculum, and critical evaluation is used to assess KM's impact on Islamic education. One key finding revealed is that the features of KM, such as student-centred learning, critical thinking and the development of student character, correspond well with the holistic goals of Islamic education. Nevertheless, major obstacles exist, such as a lack of teacher preparation, resource gaps, and tensions between KM's flexible approaches and Madrasah's traditional frameworks. Despite these challenges, KM presents opportunities for integrating secular and religious education, fostering inclusivity, and promoting innovative teaching practices. KM holds transformative potential in Madrasahs as it can integrate national education reforms with basic Islamic concepts. That would necessitate personalized teacher training, collaborative policy development and tailoring of curriculum for local contexts. Future research has the potential to yield a longitudinal insight into adoption across diverse demographics in different Islamic educational contexts.

Abstract

Although many studies have examined inter-university collaboration in developing Arabic language curricula, research incorporating Bugis local wisdom in Islamic universities remains limited. Therefore, this study aims to identify collaboration strategies between universities in creating an Arabic language curriculum based on Bugis local wisdom in Arabic language courses and to design a theoretical framework that integrates Bugis local wisdom values. This research employs a qualitative approach, with participants consisting of Arabic language lecturers from collaborating universities, namely IAIN Bone and STAI Al-Gazali Bone. Data will be collected through literature reviews, observations, interviews, and document analysis. The research findings indicate that the implementation of inter-university collaboration in developing an Arabic language curriculum based on Bugis local wisdom involves five key stages: (1) identifying common goals, (2) forming a working team, (3) curriculum development, (4) learning material development, and (5) testing and evaluation. Meanwhile, the model for collaborative Arabic language curriculum development in higher education, integrated with Bugis local wisdom values, can be designed by considering the following principles: (1) identifying relevant Bugis local wisdom values, (2) consulting and collaborating with local stakeholders, and (3) preparing an integrated learning plan. This study has implications for improving the quality of Arabic language education, developing interdisciplinary competencies, and enhancing teaching materials and educational resources based on local wisdom.

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between prophetic leadership and job satisfaction among Madrasah Ibtidaiyah teachers in Indonesia. The research method used a quantitative research design with survey techniques. Data were collected from 179 facilitator teachers in 27 provinces using a validated Likert scale questionnaire. Data analysis used regression tests to assess the effect of prophetic leadership on job satisfaction. Findings showed a significant positive correlation, indicating that a 1% increase in prophetic leadership was associated with a 0.514 increase in job satisfaction. It suggests that enhancing the principles of prophetic leadership within an education management framework can significantly improve teachers' well-being and the overall quality of education in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. This study underscores the importance of integrating moral and spiritual dimensions into Islamic education, encouraging a more inclusive and dignified work environment for educators. The implications of the findings advocate a shift towards a leadership model that prioritizes ethical considerations, potentially leading to sustainable improvements in educational practices and outcomes.

Abstract

As a country with high religious and cultural diversity, Indonesia makes religious moderation a crucial issue in maintaining harmony and tolerance between religious communities. In this increasingly complex context, research on religious moderation is becoming increasingly relevant. It is necessary to conduct a study that allows us to comprehensively map the publications that have been carried out related to religious moderation to see research trends, dominant topics, and knowledge gaps that still need to be filled. This study aims to get an overview of the trend of religious moderation research in various contexts and scientific perspectives. The research was conducted by collecting multiple articles that have been published and indexed on the reputable database scopus.com. The data obtained was analyzed using bibliometric analysis with the help of R Studio bibliophily. The results obtained 113 data published in the period 2007 to 2024. Based on visual analysis, it is known that religious moderation related to gender is the dominant issue in the period 2012-2024. In addition, there are unique themes related to local wisdom, education curriculum, and human rights. Indonesia is the most preferred country for diverse moderation research, and the dominant number of publications from Indonesian researchers and educational and research institutions in Indonesia reinforces this. However, not much research has attempted to build cross-country networks, so it is necessary to conduct cross-country and cross-religious studies for religious moderation research in the future.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze education management strategies in internalizing moderate religious values, nationalism, tolerance, and non-violence at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) Safinda and MI Bina Bangsa. The managerial approach is structured and comprehensive, involving three main stages: value transformation, value transaction, and value internalization. The research used qualitative methods with in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. The results showed that the managerial strategies implemented were successful in shaping students' characters. Value transformation through material delivery and advice by educators, as well as value transactions through exemplary activities such as flag ceremonies and small group discussions, are effective in instilling the values taught. Value internalization is reflected in students' daily behaviors that show nationalism, tolerance, and non-violence. The study also highlights the importance of the role of educators as models who provide real examples of these values, as well as the importance of social interaction and real experiences in the learning process. Despite limitations in generalizability and qualitative methods, this study makes an important contribution to the development of effective character education programs in madrasahs and other educational institutions. The practical implications of the findings can be used to improve the quality of character education in madrasahs

Abstract

. Extra-work behavior plays a crucial role in achieving organizational goals in educational institutions. This study examines the impact of organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) on teacher performance at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Asy-Syafi'iyah Kendari City. Using a quantitative research approach, the study utilized both primary and secondary data sources. Data were collected through survey techniques by distributing questionnaires to 34 teachers. The research variables were measured using appropriate scales, and the collected data were analyzed through linear regression analysis. The findings indicate that OCB has a positive and significant effect on teacher performance. The correlation coefficient results further confirm that OCB significantly influences performance, suggesting that teachers who exhibit high levels of extra-role behavior contribute more effectively to their institutions. Despite these contributions, this study has several limitations. First, the small sample size of 34 teachers may not fully represent the broader population, limiting the generalizability of the findings. Second, the study relies solely on self-reported data, which may introduce response bias. Third, the use of a cross-sectional design prevents the identification of long-term causal effects between OCB and teacher performance. Future research should consider a larger sample, multiple data sources, and a longitudinal approach to provide a more comprehensive understanding of OCB’s impact on teacher performance.
