Abstract

The principle of lifelong citizenship plays a crucial role in fostering citizens' ecological awareness and responsibility in the digital age. This study aims to integrate lifelong citizenship values through podcast technology in ecological citizenship learning. The research method employed a qualitative approach with a case study design, implemented in the Wetland Environmental Citizenship course in the Civics Study Program at Universitas Lambung Mangkurat. Respondents comprised four lecturers and 12 students, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis, and validated using source triangulation and member checking. Data analysis was conducted interactively through the stages of data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that using podcast media provides flexibility, creativity, and active student involvement in critically understanding citizenship and environmental issues. Podcast-based learning strengthens students' character as reflective, participatory, and sustainable ecological citizens, which aligns with the principle of lifelong citizenship.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited research on the application of the andragogical approach in Civic Education at the higher education level, particularly regarding its contribution to strengthening students’ awareness and social participation. This research aims to describe the implementation of the andragogical approach and analyze its impact on students’ social participation at Universitas Pamulang. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, using observations, in-depth interviews, and open-ended questionnaires involving early-semester students and course lecturers. The findings reveal that the andragogical approach is implemented through the recognition of students’ prior experiences, critical discussions, problem-solving activities, case studies, community-based social projects, and reflective assessments conducted in the university library as an interactive dialogue space. These learning strategies were proven to enhance students’ abilities to express ideas, analyze social issues, and participate actively in both campus-based and community social activities. The study concludes that the andragogical approach effectively strengthens students’ critical awareness and social responsibility. The study recommends that the andragogical approach be used as a basis for developing learning strategies and designing curriculum policies that aim to improve students’ sustainable social participation across higher education institutions.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of digital citizenship in post-digital education through the lens of Henry Giroux's critical pedagogy philosophy. This research is motivated by digital transformation, with the primary concern being the issue of technological determinism in education, which overlooks the need for emancipatory critical awareness. This inquiry philosophy research is based on literature related to post-digital education as a material object and critical pedagogy as a formal object. Methodologically, the study elaborates interpretation, induction and deduction, internal coherence, holism and historical continuity, comparison, heuristics, language inclusiveness, and in-depth reflection on formal and material objects in philosophical research. The study found that Giroux's critical pedagogy positions education as an ethical and political arena against dehumanization in the digital era. The rationality of post-digital education requires metaphysical and epistemological reflection to affirm the existence and implementation of humanistic values in post-digital educational practices. Conceptually, encouraging digital citizenship education to develop beyond technical competence into an emancipatory project of political awareness. So that students critically question their existence in digital power structures. Critical digital citizenship education fosters adaptive, ethical, and sensitive responses to social issues in uncertain future scenarios.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the integration of Pancasila values through the traditional game Pecah Piring as a reflective pedagogical approach in Civic Education at the junior high school level. The background of this study stems from the weak practice of Pancasila values among students, as well as the dominance of cognitive and theoretical learning in Civic Education. The research used a qualitative approach with a reflective study design. Data were collected through learning observations, student reflection journals, and teacher field notes, then analysed using reflective thematic analysis techniques. The results of the study show that the Pecah Piring game not only creates a fun and participatory learning experience, but also facilitates the process of internalising Pancasila values. Student reflections show a shift from mere involvement in play to an awareness of values, such as honesty and religiosity, discipline and justice, solidarity and cooperation, deliberation and democracy, as well as responsibility and sportsmanship. These findings confirm that traditional games can function as an effective experience-based learning medium in connecting local wisdom with civic education. The novelty of this research lies in the interpretation of traditional games as a reflective pedagogical strategy to strengthen the internalisation of Pancasila values in learning.

Abstract

High gap between ecological knowledge and pro-environmental action remains a critical challenge for sustainability, particularly in ecologically sensitive border regions. This study addresses this gap by developing and testing a Civic Ecological Transformation (CET) learning model based on local knowledge to enhance students’ ecological awareness in the Indonesia–Malaysia border region. Using a mixed-methods approach with a sequential exploratory design, the study began with a qualitative exploration (interviews, FGDs, observations) to identify local cultural values, followed by a quantitative phase (one-group pretest-posttest, PLS-SEM) to test the model’s effectiveness. The findings reveal that the integration of local knowledge such as belalek, saprahan, and tepung tawar significantly improves ecological awareness. Path analysis confirms the effect of the CET learning model is fully mediated by this integration of local knowledge. The CET model effectively fosters ecological citizenship and supports the achievement of SDG 4, 13, and 15, contributing a pedagogical innovation for Civic Education rooted in environmental sustainability.

Abstract

Echo Chamber and Filter Bubble are two subjects now under extensive discussion. The growing prevalence of social media in recent years underscores the potential effects of the Echo Chamber and Filter Bubble phenomena. One of them is the conflict raging on social media. The attributes of the Echo Chamber and Filter Bubble can influence the prevalence of war flame on social media. This study aimed to examine the impact of the Echo Chamber and Filter Bubble on War Flaming. This study used a quantitative methodology to investigate the relationship among the three ideas. The sample was chosen through selective sampling, comprising 100 respondents identified as flame perpetrators. The study's results indicate a significant correlation between Echo Chamber and Filter Bubble phenomena and the prevalence of war flame on social media. This study demonstrates that Echo Chamber and Filter Bubble significantly influence War Flaming. Echo Chamber (X1) and Filter Bubble (X2) collectively account for 41.8% of the variance in War Flaming (Y). The results indicate that preventing war escalation is challenging due to the existence of echo chambers and filter bubbles, unless stringent content restriction policies are implemented by social media companies and enhanced self-awareness is cultivated from an early age through familial, social, and educational influences.

Abstract

The moral degradation of adolescents in the era of globalization necessitates the reinforcement of identity through education rooted in local wisdom. This study aims to examine the influence of Minangkabau Culture-Based Character Education (PKBAM) on students' moral courage, altruism, and social solidarity. Using a quantitative survey design, data were collected from 431 junior high school students in Bukittinggi via proportionate stratified random sampling. The data analysis was performed using Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results indicate that PKBAM has a positive and significant impact on all three dimensions of moral character, with the strongest effect on social solidarity. These findings support the notion that incorporating local cultural values into education plays a crucial role in shaping civic character, in alignment with the goals of civic education. This study contributes to the advancement of civic education practices that are contextually relevant and grounded in a sociocultural framework. It is recommended that policymakers strengthen local content curricula as tools for fostering a national character that is both adaptive and deeply rooted in the nation's cultural heritage.

Abstract

The Indonesian archipelago confronts unprecedented challenges as digitalization reconfigures civic culture. This Systematic Literature Review investigates whether conventional intercultural dialogue strengthens civic culture or merely reproduces structural inequalities under the guise of diversity. Synthesizing 42 peer-reviewed articles from reputable databases published between 2015 and 2025, the findings reveal that everyday communication practices often marginalize minority languages. Furthermore, digital identity negotiation is algorithmically polarized rather than democratically deliberative, and local value revitalization frequently serves elite interests. The discussion highlights that these empirical findings challenge traditional pluralist models, aligning instead with the applied theory of critical multiculturalism to expose systemic power imbalances. The primary novelty of this study lies in its structural critique, arguing that intercultural dialogue without systemic transformation merely disguises inequality. In conclusion, authentic civic culture requires dismantling structural inequalities across educational systems and digital platforms, transforming diversity from a rhetorical slogan into substantive justice. This study contributes to citizenship policy by providing a transformative framework for inclusive curriculum design. Future research should empirically test these structural interventions across diverse demographics to strengthen democratic resilience.

Abstract

This paper examines the civic identity of the Dayak people in the West Kalimantan border region within the context of ethnic transnationalism, emphasizing the role of custom and cross-border mobility. Recognizing that Dayak communities have historically lived beyond the boundaries of modern states, the study conceptualizes citizenship as a lived social experience that does not always align with nation-state logic. Using ethnographic methods, the research explores how Dayak people interpret citizenship through everyday practices, kinship relations, and cross-border interactions. The findings show that citizenship is understood situationally and pragmatically, particularly in relation to administrative needs and access to state services, while ethnic and customary identities remain the primary basis of social loyalty. Custom functions as a value framework regulating community membership, social relations, and attachment to ancestral lands across borders. Continuous mobility sustains a transnational social space where borders are negotiated administrative structures rather than rigid social boundaries. The study highlights the layered and dynamic nature of border citizenship and contributes to scholarship on indigenous transnationalism.

Abstract

Digital transformation and the development of Society 5.0 require higher education to produce graduates who are not only technically competent but also possess ethical awareness, social responsibility, and a strong sense of citizenship. In the Indonesian context, strengthening Pancasila values through digital citizenship represents a strategic agenda that must be systematically integrated into the curriculum. This study aims to synthesize Scopus-indexed scholarly literature examining the relationship between Outcome-Based Education (OBE), digital citizenship, and the strengthening of Pancasila values in higher education. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted through identification, screening, and thematic analysis of 30 selected articles published between 2019 and 2025. The screening process applied inclusion–exclusion criteria and quality assessment to ensure methodological rigor. The findings indicate that OBE provides an effective structural framework for integrating digital citizenship as value-based learning outcomes; however, studies explicitly linking OBE to Pancasila values remain limited. This synthesis concludes that OBE can function as a strategic instrument for strengthening value-based digital citizenship and recommends curriculum development and further research to support its implementation in higher education.
