Abstract

Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) is a lung infection after 48 hours of mechanical ventilation. During the use of mechanical ventilation, medical action is always required. suction which is a procedure for suctioning secretions from the airways. However, this procedure suction Improper use can potentially increase the risk of infection by pushing microorganisms from the oropharynx into the lungs. The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between the frequency of open suction to the incident Ventilator Assosiated Pneumonia (VAP). This study uses a descriptive design. cross-sectional with the method analytical observation. Data were collected from all mechanically ventilated patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria in the ICU Room of Naval Hospital dr. Midiyato Suratani, Tanjungpinang from August 13 to November 30, 2024, with a sample size of 30 respondents. The sampling technique was purposive sampling accidental sampling. Test results Pearson Chi-Square obtained p-Value = 0,013 (a-0,05) so Ho is rejected, meaning there is a frequency relationship open suction against VAP incidents. Suction Excessive use of tobacco causes irritation and injury to the respiratory tract, encouraging microorganisms from the oropharynx to enter and multiply in the lungs, ultimately increasing the risk of infection and weakening the body's defenses. Suction must be done in a balanced way, not too often, but also not too rarely with a frequency threshold. Suction< 7x/day and adjusted to the patient's condition. Furthermore, proper technique and maintaining equipment hygiene are crucial to reducing the risk of VAP.

Abstract

Bullying is an aggressive behavior intentionally carried out in physical, verbal, or psychological forms with the aim of causing fear, pressure, or harm to the victim. If not properly addressed, such behavior can negatively affect adolescents’ mental health. Mental health refers to a state of well-being in which an individual realizes their potential, can cope with normal life stresses, work productively, and contribute to their community. This study aimed to determine the effect of bullying on the mental health of adolescents at SMPN 1 Darul Imarah, Aceh Besar Regency. This research employed an analytical observational quantitative design with a cross-sectional study approach. The population consisted of students from classes VIII-I, VIII-5, and IX-4, with a total sample of 88 respondents selected using purposive random sampling. Data were collected using bullying and mental health questionnaires, and analyzed with the Chi-Square test. The results showed a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between bullying and adolescents’ mental health. It can be concluded that bullying behavior has a significant effect on students’ mental health. The use of questionnaires in this study proved effective in identifying students’ thought patterns and tendencies related to bullying behavior

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to impaired insulin secretion, decreased insulin sensitivity, or both. One of its major complications is diabetic foot ulcer, which requires appropriate wound management. Modern wound care using honey has been shown to be effective because of its antibacterial and antiseptic properties, as well as its ability to promote granulation tissue formation and inhibit bacterial growth. This study aimed to determine the effect of modern wound care using honey on the healing of diabetic foot ulcers. This pre-experimental study employed a one-group pretest–posttest design involving 22 respondents at Dr. Midiyato Suratani Naval Hospital, Tanjungpinang, from March 3 to April 20, 2025, using consecutive sampling. The Wilcoxon test showed a significant effect of honey-based modern wound care on diabetic ulcer healing (p = 0.001, p < 0.05). These findings indicate that honey is an effective adjunctive therapy for accelerating tissue regeneration and wound healing.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels. The incidence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) in children and adolescents is increasing alongside rising obesity and sedentary lifestyles. Early detection of T2DM risk in adolescents is important and can be performed using the non-invasive FINDRISC (Finnish Diabetes Risk Score). This study aimed to determine risk prevalence and identify determinants of T2DM risk among adolescents. A descriptive analytic cross-sectional design was used in adolescents from the Diploma III Nursing Program in Tegal, with 153 participants selected using the Gay & Diehl approach. Data were collected using the FINDRISC questionnaire and analyzed with descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and multiple logistic regression. The prevalence of low risk was 69% (n=106), slightly elevated risk 27.5% (n=42), and moderate risk 3.5% (n=5). Factors associated with increased risk included BMI, waist circumference, physical activity, fruit and vegetable intake, and family history. The most dominant factor was family history (OR = 16.89). FINDRISC is effective for identifying at-risk adolescents.

Abstract

Acute diarrhea remains a common cause of childhood morbidity, and inappropriate antibiotic use is still a concern in primary care. This study aimed to identify demographic and clinical factors associated with antibiotic use in children with acute diarrhea. A cross-sectional study was conducted at Wayabula Primary Health Care Center, Pulau Morotai, involving 53 medical records. Variables included gender, age, and degree of dehydration. Data were analyzed descriptively and using Fisher’s exact test. Most children were male (62.3%) and under five years (83.0%), with antibiotics prescribed in 11.3% of cases. Antibiotic use was not associated with gender or age (p = 1.000) but was significantly associated with dehydration (p < 0.001). These findings indicate that antibiotic use is influenced by clinical severity rather than demographic factorsTop of Form

Abstract

Hypertension remains a major public health problem in Indonesia, particularly at the primary health care level. Socioeconomic factors, including employment status, may influence hypertension severity, yet evidence in primary care settings is limited. This study aimed to examine the association between employment status and hypertension stage among primary health care patients. A cross-sectional study was conducted using secondary data from medical records at Buho-Buho Primary Health Center, Morotai Island Regency, Indonesia, in 2025. A total of 69 hypertensive patients were included. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 26 with descriptive and bivariate analysis (Fisher’s exact test). Most participants were female, older adults, and employed, with stage 2 hypertension as the predominant condition. Employment status was significantly associated with hypertension stage (p < 0.05), while other variables showed no significant association. These findings highlight the importance of considering socioeconomic factors in hypertension management at the primary care level.Top of Form

Abstract

Breastfeeding is the optimal nutrition for infants; however, the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia remains suboptimal. Postpartum mothers often experience breastfeeding difficulties due to a lack of knowledge of proper techniques. This study aimed to determine the effect of breastfeeding education on the breastfeeding ability of postpartum mothers in Randusari Village. A pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach was used involving 30 respondents selected through accidental sampling. Breastfeeding ability was measured using the LATCH score and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that before the intervention, most respondents had moderate ability (66.7%), which significantly improved to a high category (53.3%) after education. Statistical analysis showed p-value = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of breastfeeding education on breastfeeding ability. Breastfeeding education is effective in improving postpartum mothers’ skills and should be provided continuously from pregnancy to the postpartum period.
