Abstract

Literacy scores in the Curug District Public Elementary School Cluster are still relatively low. Therefore, the service team carried out service with the aim of increasing teacher competence in literacy and numeracy learning in the Curug District Public Elementary School Cluster environment. In House Training activity is a form of Community Service carried out by Esa Superior University PGSD Lecturers for Dirgantara Elementary School teachers in the Legok District Cluster area, Tangerang Regency. This activity was carried out as an effort to provide knowledge (insight) and increase teacher competence in developing literacy and numeracy-based learning strategies, so that they can be implemented in schools in the learning process. This activity will be held on September 25 and October 27 2023 in the Dirgantara Elementary School classroom, Legok District. The material presented is in the form of material exposure, simulations and practices carried out by IHT participants. This Community Service activity is a collaboration between lecturers and students of the Primary School Teacher Education Study Program (PGSD) at Esa Unggul University and the management of SDN Dirgantara. As a result of this activity, teachers have the ability to improve literacy and numeracy learning in schools. Therefore, it is concluded that the service activities carried out were successful in achieving the objectives.

Abstract

Hypertension is a health problem that is often encountered in the elderly and can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. Elderly exercise has been recognized as having benefits in improving physical and psychological health. This community service aims to carry out the tridharma activities of higher education which are always held once a year. This study aims to evaluate the effect of an elderly exercise program on the management of hypertension in the elderly. The method used was checking the blood pressure of the elderly before and after the implementation of the elderly exercise program which was carried out on September 13 2023. This community service was carried out in RW 08 Jayagiri Village, Lembang District, West Bandung Regency. Followed by 32 elderly women. The results of the study showed significant changes in blood pressure from previously having high blood pressure above 140/90 as much as 70%. After carrying out the elderly exercise, blood pressure was checked again with the results decreasing below 140/90 by 65%. The conclusion from this community service activity is that there is a significant reduction in blood pressure in the elderly after carrying out elderly exercise. Elderly exercise can be an effective approach in treating hypertension in the elderly. The community service activities carried out went well. This can be seen from the enthusiasm of the elderly women during the activity.

Abstract

This article aims to describe how community service through implementation of the SMART Adult Learning Strategy to prepare the young generation (in English ability) for global challenges. The activity was carried out in October 2023 at Bengkulu University, with a total of 51 participants in the workshop who were students, teachers, community members, and lecturers from various institutions. To see the workshop's impact on participant English Self-Efficacy which is closely related to their readiness to communicate with international, English-speaking countries, instrument of a closed questionnaire with 7 answer choices of English Self-Efficacy (ESE) Scale was used. The data then analysed by descriptive statistical analysis. The results showed that there was a significant increase in ESE level between pre-implementation and after the implementation. Selected ESE tested had significant increases (on average) were: discussing in English with classmates some topics in which they are interested with a 20% increase; participants' confidence in understanding songs in English was 17%, while the on reading news in English was 17%. The highest increase in ESE level was in understanding English articles about Indonesian culture which has an average increase of 21%. The respondents who believed to have more confidence in their ESE as there was a positive statements impact range between 16-21% increase in the tested ESE level. So, it can be concluded that The implementation of the SMART Adult Learning Strategy to prepare the young generation for the global challenges from the perspective of English ability received a positive response from the participants.

Abstract

Reference Manager Tool (Mendeley) training for students at the Faculty of Islamic Religion, Muhammadiyah University was carried out with the aim of assisting students in creating bibliographies automatically and searching for references from leading international and national journals that have accreditation, especially in writing quotations. Training is carried out through lecture methods, practice and question and answer sessions led by the team. This activity was held at campus IV, Muhammadiyah University on Wednesday, December 6 2023, with the participation of 95 students from the Faculty of Islamic Religion, Muhammadiyah University, Bengkulu. The implementation of this service uses several techniques, namely lectures, discussions and demonstrations. The implementation stages of this service consist of several opening and introduction sessions, introduction to Mendeley installation and initial preparation, Mendeley account creation, main feature training, reference organization, use of citation tools, making a bibliography, question and answer sessions and practice. This service concludes that 80% of students understand well how to insert citations and create a bibliography using Mendeley. This service provides significant benefits and makes a positive contribution in preparing students at the Faculty of Islamic Religion, Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu to face academic challenges, as well as assisting in producing more structured written work. Some suggestions that should be considered for better implementation of service include conducting initial surveys to identify student knowledge and needs, providing complete and easily accessible training materials in various formats, conducting evaluations and collecting feedback from training participants to improve and adjust the program in the future.

Abstract

The aim of this community service is to provide education about stunting and the use of fish products to prevent stunting to the students at SMA Negeri 2 Muara Sugihan, Banyuasin Regency. The method used in community service activities was socialization of stunting prevention through consumption of fish products for high school students, using public lectures and demonstrations with predetermined themes. The community service activity is expected to have a positive impact in an increasing of students' understanding for stunting and its prevention by consuming various processed fish products. The results of implementing community service were evaluated regarding students' understanding of the material presented in the form of achievement indicators and benchmarks. Based on the results of implementing community service, participants were able to understand the definition, causes and ways to prevent stunting. Then the participants were also able to understand the nutritional content of fish and its benefits in preventing stunting. In addition, the participants have learned about various types of processed fish products. Overall, consumption of fish products is beneficial to prevent in developing countries occurrence of stunting through application of nutritional education in community service activities.

Abstract

Most lecturers have difficulty adapting to technological advances, including in implementing the TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) framework. Therefore, one solution is to hold training packaged in a program called the PEKERTI Program (Basic Instructional Engineering Skills Improvement). The 2024 Batch 3 PEKERTI program at Bengkulu University was implemented with the aim of training lecturers in carrying out TPACK-based learning management. This activity, which was held in January 2024, was attended by 39 lecturers. A closed questionnaire with 4 answer choices was used as a research tool. Descriptive statistical analysis is the data analysis method used. PEKERTI participants' answers to the implementation of the training were analyzed using data collected in the form of percentages which were the results of calculations using a modified Likert Scale. The research results show that 100% of respondents are in the Strongly Agree category based on the guidelines in table 4 of the Likert scale interpretation. Meanwhile, for the agree, disagree and strongly disagree categories, there were 0 respondents. So, it can be concluded that the TPACK-based learning management training for Pekerti Batch 3 in 2024 at Bengkulu University received a positive response from participants.

Abstract

This activity aims to increase the knowledge of 80% of teachers about the practice of Project Based Learning in early childhood education learning. The Project Based Learning workshop activities were held on Panggang and Pramuka islands, the Thousand Islands, and were attended by 14 teachers. The method uses lectures and workshop activities. The pre-test and post-test results showed that the average knowledge increased from 26.43 to 54.29. Based on the results of the Wilcoxon test analysis, a p-value of 0.002 < 0.05 was obtained, which means that the level of knowledge of the respondents changed before and after the Project Based Learning workshop was conducted. So, it can be concluded that the implementation of the project based learning workshop has been carried out well, from planning to implementation. Apart from that, teachers are also enthusiastic about the activities that have been carried out and are able to participate in the activities well.

Abstract

This study aimed to prepare Sociology teaching materials based on Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) as an attempt to develop learning in accordance with students’ characteristics. CRT learning is defined as a learning approach using students’ cultural knowledge, experience, and creating local culture-based learning. This activity stage consists of training module preparation, workshop implementation, teaching material monitoring and evaluation, and follow-up plan. The output of this activity is CRT-based Sociology Learning Teaching Material. This activity engages Sociology teachers affiliated with Subject Teacher Conference (Indonesian: Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran, thereafter called MGMP) of Sociology of Klaten Regency, consisting of 26 teachers. This activity was technically initiated with identifying the characteristic of local culture related to Sociology material. Furthermore, CRT teaching material is developed in Sociology learning in accordance with the characteristic of local culture. The presence of such teaching material is expected to encourage the students to know their cultural environment better, to analyze the concept of sociology in accordance with their environment, and to be tolerant to different cultures existing. As for the activities' results, the first is preparing five CRT-based Phase F sociology teaching materials. Second, sociology teachers can develop sociology learning according to students' cultural characteristics. Third, sociology teachers have a variety of learning approaches. Thus, CRT-based Phase F sociology teaching materials that may be utilized in the classroom are produced as a result of this service project.

Abstract

This community service aims to provide training to teachers at SD Negeri 8 Bengkulu City in utilizing the CRT approach to implement learning that liberates students. The training activity was carried out on April 27 2024 at SD Negeri 8 Bengkulu City and was attended by 13 teachers. Training methods are carried out in the form of lectures, discussions and practice. In the first session, participants were provided with an understanding of the concept of CRT and the importance of integrating culture in learning. The second session discussed identifying students' cultural backgrounds and learning strategies that are appropriate to the CRT approach. The final session focused on classroom management from a CRT perspective, evaluation, and collaboration with parents and the community. The training activity was carried out at SDN 8 Bengkulu City, which was attended by 13 teachers. Through this training, it is hoped that teachers can develop the ability to create a learning environment that is culturally responsive, respects diversity, and liberates students in the learning process. Activities are carried out using training patterns. After conducting training, teachers were able to develop teaching modules using the CRT approach. From this training activity it can be concluded that the training has an impact on the ability of teachers to develop teaching modules using the CRT approach.

Abstract

This activity aims to develop students' character education through traditional games. The method used in implementing Community Service activities is to use the demonstration method which consists of planning, screening, implementation, evaluation, and reporting. Where this activity consists of delivering traditional game activity material indoors and applying traditional game activity material outdoors.  The results of implementing this traditional game-based learning method have been proven through leadership project activities in the form of socializing traditional games. This Leadership Project activity showed high enthusiasm from teachers during theory sessions and students during traditional game practice. This shows that traditional game-based learning methods can be well accepted by teachers and students. From the implementation carried out, it can be concluded that developing children's character through traditional games is very necessary and liked by children. The character values contained in traditional games include religiousness, hard work, togetherness, love of the country, discipline, patience, creativity, and others.
