Abstract

Pulo Aceh is highly vulnerable to natural disasters, including earthquakes and tsunamis. The lack of awareness and limited knowledge among the community, particularly elementary school students, regarding disaster mitigation efforts poses a serious challenge in fostering local community resilience. This community service activity aims to enhance students' disaster awareness and preparedness at Lampuyang. Public Elementary School, Pulo Aceh. The methods used include interactive education, evacuation simulations, and emergency response training tailored to local conditions and participant age. The results show an increase in students' understanding of types of disasters, initial self-rescue steps, and the importance of individual and school preparedness in facing emergencies. Strengthening disaster mitigation capacity at the elementary school level has proven effective as an initial strategy for cultivating a disaster-aware culture from an early age. This activity is expected to serve as a model for school-based disaster education that can be implemented in other disaster-prone areas.

Abstract

Instructional media plays a crucial role in conveying educational messages, capturing students’ attention, and enhancing their learning motivation. One effective medium to support the learning process is the use of diorama-based media. This community service activity aims to: (1) assist in clarifying the presentation of learning materials to improve students’ knowledge and understanding through the use of diorama media designed by students of the PGMI Program at Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Tarbiyah Al-Hilal Sigli; and (2) facilitate collaborative learning between students of MIN 18 Pidie and university students through inter-institutional cooperation. This activity employed a qualitative descriptive method with a participatory approach. The results indicated that the presentation of the diorama media was carried out smoothly and received positive responses from the students. As a combination of visual elements and three-dimensional forms, the diorama effectively represents subject matter in a realistic way, enhances learning motivation, and provides students with direct learning experiences. In conclusion, diorama media not only offers in-depth visualization of the subject matter but also improves students’ memory retention through direct engagement with attractive and contextual visual media.

Abstract

The increasingly uncontrollable issue of plastic waste has captured people's attention. Instilling environmental awareness from an early age is crucial to prevent this problem from being passed down to future generations. This community service program aims to educate students about the importance of environmental preservation and to raise awareness of the dangers posed by non-biodegradable plastic waste. This activity invites students to replace bottled water with reusable tumblers as a practical solution. The socialization activity on the use of tumblers to reduce plastic waste was conducted on November 11, 2024, SDN No. 57 Banda Aceh. Prior to this session, some students already had a basic understanding of plastic waste and its environmental impacts. Positive habits, such as bringing their own tumblers to school instead of purchasing bottled beverages, had already been adopted by a number of students. The event was carried out smoothly and received a highly positive response from the sixth-grade students of SDN 57 Banda Aceh. The students were enthusiastic throughout the entire session and provided excellent feedback during the discussions. Motivational rewards further encouraged students to actively participate in the socialization and pay close attention to the material presented.

Abstract

Abstract. The incidence of bullying among elementary school students has become increasingly alarming. The consequences of bullying are multifaceted, encompassing psychological, sociological, and other detrimental effects. Consequently, there is a pressing need for comprehensive educational interventions to equip students with the knowledge and skills to prevent bullying. This community service project aimed to deliver an extensive educational program on bullying behavior to sixth-grade students at SD Tanjung Selamat, a primary school situated in a rural area. The methodology employed involved interactive communication and role-playing techniques, implemented through three stages: (1) material presentation, (2) interactive questioning, and (3) evaluation. Findings indicate a considerable deficiency in students’ understanding of the various forms, impacts, and identification of bullying prior to the intervention. Following the program, participants exhibited enhanced awareness and recognition of bullying behaviors. Moreover, the initiative sought to sensitize perpetrators to the consequences of their actions, thereby discouraging future occurrences. It is anticipated that this educational effort will promote more responsible student conduct and contribute to fostering a safe and bully-free school environment. Additionally, structural preventative measures involving educators and school committees are recommended to mitigate the recurrence of bullying incidents

Abstract

Along with technological advances in the digital era, cybersecurity has become a serious challenge faced by various groups, including Islamic boarding schools. As young generations actively engage with social media, digital applications, and online services, santri are vulnerable to cyber threats such as phishing, malware, and identity theft. The low levels of digital literacy and cybersecurity technical skills make this group urgently in need of specialized training. This community service program aims to improve santri's awareness and skills in recognizing, preventing, and responding to cyber threats. The method applied was a participatory training approach that included interactive lectures, group discussions, real-life threat simulations, and hands-on practice with digital security technologies. The training results indicated significant improvement in santri's understanding and skills in cybersecurity, as evidenced by pre- and posttest score comparisons and increased confidence in addressing potential threats. In addition, a cyber-aware community was established within the pesantren environment, serving as agents of change in disseminating knowledge and skills to other santri. In conclusion, this training not only enhanced santri's digital literacy but also contributed to the development of a stronger culture of cybersecurity in the pesantren environment. In the future, similar activities are recommended to be developed continuously and expanded in scope to achieve broader benefits.

Abstract

Digital transformation in education presents significant challenges and opportunities, particularly for Islamic educational institutions seeking to foster responsible digital citizenship among students. This community service program aimed to strengthen digital citizenship through an Islamic values-based media literacy program at SMPIT Istiqomah Bungursari, Tasikmalaya City. The program utilized a participatory action research approach involving 52 students aged 12-15 years, 10 teachers, and three school administrators over 4 months. The intervention consisted of 16 structured sessions (2 hours each) that employed a blended learning methodology, integrating traditional Islamic pedagogical approaches with modern digital literacy techniques. Results demonstrated significant improvements in students' digital citizenship competencies, including a 40% increase in hoax identification abilities (from 45% to 85%), enhanced ethical digital communication skills (36% improvement), and strengthened inclusive attitudes in digital interactions. The program successfully achieved equitable participation across gender and grade levels, with consistent improvement rates of 40-42% across all demographic groups. The developed "Literasi Setara" (Equal Literacy) model proved effective in creating an inclusive learning environment that maintains Islamic identity while developing critical digital skills. This community service program concludes that integrating Islamic values with digital literacy education effectively develops responsible digital citizens who can navigate the digital world while preserving their religious and moral foundations.

Abstract

Strengthening the digital literacy of educational staff has become an urgent need in the era of technology-based educational transformation. The limited use of digital tools in curriculum management and learning evaluation remains a significant issue in many madrasahs, including Madrasah Aliyah Nurul Jadid. Therefore, this community service program was designed to enhance the digital competence of educational staff through training on optimizing Google Workspace as a supporting tool for curriculum management and learning evaluation. The program was implemented in three main stages: intensive workshops, independent implementation simulations, and continuous technical assistance, using need-based training and learning-by-doing approaches so participants could directly apply the skills they acquired to the madrasah's practical needs. The results indicate a significant improvement in participants' digital literacy, as evidenced by their ability to design digital curriculum documents, develop evaluation instruments using Google Forms, and manage learning activities through Google Classroom. Beyond individual skill enhancement, the program also strengthened the madrasah's managerial system, fostered a collaborative work culture, and accelerated the digitalization of learning administration. In conclusion, the Google Workspace optimization training proved effective in improving the digital literacy of educational staff while supporting the modernization of curriculum management in madrasahs. The sustainability plan of this program includes establishing a community of digital practice within the madrasah, developing self-learning training modules, and creating collaborative networks with other madrasahs to broaden the impact of digital transformation. This program is recommended for replication in other madrasah as a best practice and may serve as a reference for designing regional training programs.

Abstract

The community engagement programme on halal certification assistance for cassava-based crackers (lempeng) was carried out in Ledokombo Village, Sumberjambe District, Jember Regency, East Java, Indonesia, with the aim of enhancing halal literacy, improving product quality, and fostering a community-based halal ecosystem. This initiative was motivated by the limited understanding among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) of halal certification procedures and the necessity of legal compliance to expand market access. A participatory approach was employed through several stages: awareness-raising sessions, raw material identification, administrative assistance, and technical guidance on packaging and branding. The findings indicate significant improvements in three key areas. First, MSMEs’ halal literacy increased through a deeper understanding of certification procedures and the principles of halal and thayyib production. Second, product quality and competitiveness improved via the adoption of hygienic production standards, the use of certified halal ingredients, and the development of more attractive and informative packaging. Third, a supportive network involving MSMEs, local government, and relevant institutions emerged, reinforcing programme sustainability and strengthening the halal ecosystem at the local level. Moreover, the programme offered experiential learning opportunities for students as change agents, enabling them to develop practical skills in community empowerment. Overall, the halal certification assistance programme in Ledokombo Village, Jember Regency not only facilitated legal compliance but also generated substantial socio-economic impacts, contributing to the national agenda of positioning Indonesia as a global hub for the halal industry.

Abstract

Gampong Layeun and Pulot, Leupung District, Aceh Besar, Aceh Province, is famous as a producer of salted fish, fish jerky, and other processed fish products. The communities in the two villages took the initiative to establish the Koperasi Samudra Mandiri as a forum for processed seafood entrepreneurs, especially salted fish products, to gather and develop their businesses together. One of the problems faced by this koperasi is the handling of fish waste, which is classified as organic waste and includes fish innards, scales, etc. Apart from that, household waste management remains a problem. Generally, people throw rubbish into their backyard or burn it. The public does not yet know how to manage waste or how to sort organic and inorganic waste. Apart from that, the regional government responsible for waste management, namely Dinas Lingkungan Hidup, has also not reached the final disposal site to provide waste transportation services. To address the waste problem, the Syiah Kuala University (USK) service team provides waste management education to this community group, especially on sorting and processing organic waste. The Service Team and cooperative members also initiated the preparation of village regulations regarding waste management and coordinated with the village government to create a waste bank.
