Abstract

Objective: This study aims to understand and analyze the meaning of the Belabaja philosophy in realizing sustainable peace in the Galiau Watang Lema Traditional Alliance community in Alor Regency. The object of the study focuses on the practice, values, and meaning of the Belabaja ritual as a customary mechanism in reconciling social conflicts and forming the collective identity of the Alor-Pantar coastal community. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework of this study is based on sociological conflict theory and symbolic interactionism, which views conflict as an inherent part of social dynamics. Literature review: The literature review discusses social conflict as an inherent social process within plural societies and highlights the importance of local wisdom in conflict resolution and reconciliation. Previous studies on customary law, ritual-based reconciliation. Methods: This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with traditional and community leaders, and documentation of traditional practices, then analyzed qualitatively to capture the lived experiences and social meanings attached to the Bela Baja ritual. Results: The results of the study indicate that Belabaja functions as a traditional oath ritual that transforms subjective awareness of solidarity into objective awareness of social brotherhood, thus effectively preventing recurring conflicts and strengthening social cohesion across groups. Implications: The implications of this study confirm that the integration of local wisdom such as Belabaja contributes to the achievement of SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Resilient Institutions) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Communities). Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in the phenomenological analysis of Belabaja as a foundation for sustainable peace and collective identity in the traditional alliance system

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the influence of teacher professionalism, school environment, and student stress level on learning motivation. This study tested the direct relationship between variables in one integrated structural model. The focus of the research is on the context of pesantren education in Indonesia. Theoretical framework: Based on the theory of learning motivation, the concept of teacher professionalism, and the theory of the learning environment as determinants of learning quality. The conceptual model places professionalism and the school environment as the main predictors of student motivation. Literature review: Previous studies have discussed the relationship between the school environment and teacher professionalism, as well as stress and motivation to learn separately. However, the integration of the three variables in a single SEM model in Indonesia is still limited. Methods: A quantitative approach is used with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis. The sample consisted of 201 students of the Baitur Rohmah Islamic Boarding School Muhammadiyah. Results: Teacher professionalism has a significant and dominant effect on learning motivation (β = 0.360). The school environment also had a positive effect (β = 0.202). Teachers play an important role in shaping a conducive learning environment. Implications: Strengthening teacher professionalism is a key strategy to increase motivation and the quality of education. Collaboration with the government and relevant institutions supports the achievement of quality education (SDGs 4). Novelty: The novelty of the research lies in the integration of teacher professionalism, the school environment, and student stress in one structural model. This study enriches the empirical literature in the context of pesantren education in Indonesia.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to compare strategies and identify the impact of strategies implemented by the principals of Muhammadiyah Junior High School PK Kottabarat Surakarta and Muhammadiyah Al-Kautsar PK Sukoharjo Junior High School in improving the quality of education. Theoretical framework:  this research is based on Whetten & Cameron's theory of transformational leadership and Schultes' theory of facilitative leadership applied by principals. Literature review: A literature review includes literature on leadership, quality schools, and Islamic education. It is still found that existing studies focus only on general education without considering the religious dimension in Islamic education. Methods: data collection techniques using observation, interviews, and document studies, with credibility and dependability tests as data validity tests. Data analysis techniques consist of data reduction, data presentation, and data verification. Results: The results of the study showed that SMP Muhammadiyah PK Kottabarat Surakarta implemented a transformational model strategy, while SMP Muhammadiyah Al-Kautsar PK Sukoharjo focused more on a facilitative model. The two schools have similarities in their digitalization strategy, but differ in policies such as the standardization of prospective students and the handling of discipline of education personnel. The impact of this strategy at SMP Muhammadiyah PK Kottabarat Surakarta includes increasing public interest, school achievement, SBBI Award, and teacher welfare. Meanwhile, at Muhammadiyah Al-Kautsar PK Sukoharjo Junior High School, the impact can be seen in the increase in registrants, academic and non-academic achievements, and the progress of infrastructure. Implications: This research promotes the importance of transformational leadership in urban Islamic schools, highlighting its crucial role in improving education quality and aligning educational strategies with the achievement of SDG 4, while emphasizing the need for further studies on leadership models that integrate Islamic values in urban educational contexts. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in the integration of the leadership strategies of urban Islamic school principals with the achievement of SDG 4, which is rarely discussed in the Islamic education literature.

Abstract

Objective: This study explores the intersection of Islamic education, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and Javanese cultural syncretism through Kidung Rumekso by Sunan Kalijaga. It aims to examine syncretism as a cultural–pedagogical strategy in the Islamization of Java, focusing on how Islamic teachings are integrated with Javanese traditions and their implications for culture-based Islamic education aligned with SDGs, particularly inclusive and quality education. Theoretical framework: The study employs the concept of syncretism supported by hermeneutic and phenomenological approaches to analyze the integration of Javanese cosmology and Islamic monotheism within the text. Literature review: Existing scholarship indicates that Islamization in Java occurred adaptively through cultural accommodation; however, specific studies positioning Kidung Rumekso as an epistemological reconstruction remain limited. Methods: This research uses a qualitative philosophical method with a hermeneutical-phenomenological approach, examining textual content, relevant literature, and historical-cultural contexts. Results: The findings reveal that Kidung Rumekso represents a profound model of Javanese-Islamic syncretism operating across three dimensions: (1) theological, reflected in the alignment of Manunggaling Kawula Gusti with the principle of tawhid; (2) ritual, seen in the transformation of traditional chants or mantras into Islamic prayers; and (3) symbolic, demonstrated through the use of Javanese cultural symbols to communicate Islamic teachings contextually. These dimensions illustrate how religious values are transmitted in culturally resonant forms, supporting socially sustainable education. Implications: This model contributes to the development of contextual Islamic education that is adaptive, inclusive, and rooted in local wisdom, aligning with SDGs’ emphasis on cultural sustainability and equitable learning. Novelty: The study offers a new perspective by interpreting Kidung Rumekso as an epistemological reconstruction bridging Javanese mysticism and Islamic orthodoxy, rather than merely a form of cultural accommodation.

Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to analyze the influence of religious and cultural literacy on the tendency toward early marriage among students at public high schools in Central Lombok. Theoretical framework: This research refers to the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and the concepts of religious literacy as proposed by Stephen Prothero and Diane L. Moore, cultural literacy as formulated by E. D. Hirsch, as well as early marriage as defined by UNICEF and BKKBN. These concepts are positioned as conceptual–theoretical frameworks for analyzing early marriage tendencies. Literature review: Previous studies have shown that early marriage is generally caused by many factors, including misinterpretation of religious teachings, cultural norms that support young marriage, economic pressure, and a lack of social control and reproductive awareness. However, little research has specifically reviewed the influence of religious and cultural literacy in that context. Method: This research uses a quantitative approach with an associative kind, 373 respondents selected using the cluster area sampling technique with a two-stage cluster. The data was analyzed using correlation analysis and simple linear regression. Result: The findings show that religious literacy significantly affects the tendency toward early marriage, with a contribution of 24.2% (Y = 68.729 – 0.460X₁), while cultural literacy contributes 26% (Y = 67.277 – 0.448X₂). The multiple regression equation Y = 71.896 – 0.237X₁ – 0.283X₂ indicates that both religious and cultural literacy together explain 28.9% of the variation in early marriage tendencies. A negative correlation (r = -0.492 and r = 0.510) demonstrates that the higher the religious and cultural literacy, the lower the tendency toward early marriage. These findings emphasize that strengthening literacy in both domains effectively reduces early marriage rates by fostering critical understanding of religious teachings, constructive interpretation of cultural values, and rational decision-making among adolescents. Implications: This finding confirms the importance of integrating religious and cultural values education into the school curriculum and local policies to support the achievement of the SDGs (goals 3, 4, 5, and 8). Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in its focus on analyzing the influence of religious and cultural literacy, variables rarely studied in the context of the religious and cultural community of Central Lombok, and its relationship to the SDGs. This makes the results significant not only locally but also globally.

Abstract

Objective: Develop moral integration based on hadith in Islamic education through a religious approach to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in the aspects of social justice, environmental sustainability, and governance integrity. Theoretical framework:  The research relies on the prophetic moral concept sourced from hadith as the foundation of character formation, combined with a religious approach in Islamic education, as well as the SDGs value framework as an orientation for sustainable global development. Literature review: The literature review includes the study of moral values in hadith, the role of Islamic education in character building, the concept of social and environmental ethics from an Islamic perspective, and the relationship of religious values to the sustainable development agenda. Methods: The research method uses a qualitative approach with a library research design, which involves analyzing relevant literature sources in the form of hadiths, books, and previous research to formulate a conceptual integration model. Results: The results of the study show that prophetic moral values such as justice, trust, social responsibility, and environmental ethics have a fundamental role in the formation of students' character, as well as the moral integration based on hadith, not only forms ritual piety but also ethical, reflective, and transformative awareness in educational and social life. Implications:  Hadith-based moral integration can strengthen ethical orientation in achieving the SDGs and has strategic relevance in the development of a sustainable Islamic education curriculum. Novelty: Conceptual integration between hadith-based morality in Islamic education with a religious approach that bridges prophetic ethics and the goals of the SDGs in one integrated theoretical framework.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the implementation and revitalization of the Recitation Between Maghrib and Isha or Pengajian antara Maghrib dan Isya (PAMI) as a mosque-based Islamic education model in shaping the piety character of school-age children and identifying challenges and strategies for its development in the digital era, in support of the SDGs goals in the field of quality education. Theoretical framework: This study uses the concept of character education in Islam, which emphasizes the integration of faith, worship, and morals, as well as a community-based educational approach that places mosques as the center of moral and spiritual development. Literature review:  The literature shows that mosques play an important role as non-formal Islamic educational institutions in the formation of children's character, but face modern challenges such as the influence of digital technology and low participation of the younger generation. Methods: The study used a qualitative approach with ethnographic design through observation, interviews, and documentation at the Riyadhul Abidin Mosque, Jambi City, with data analysis of Miles and Huberman models. Results: The results of the study show that PAMI plays an important role in instilling the value of faith, getting used to worship practices, and fostering children's morals. However, its implementation faces challenges in the form of the influence of digital technology, low participation of adolescents, and limited learning methods. Implications: Revitalization of PAMI through method innovation, parental involvement, and technological adaptation can strengthen mosque-based character education. Novelty: This study highlights the revitalization of PAMI as a non-formal Islamic education model that is adaptive to the digital era and relevant to the SDGs agenda of quality education.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the implementation of prophetic intelligence in Islamic education as a strategy for building anti-corruption character in the Greater Solo area, by highlighting its contribution to the achievement of Islam and the SDGs.  Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework of this research is based on the concept of prophetic intelligence that combines rationality, spirituality, and morality as the basis of ethical awareness. Literature review: Literature review confirms that prophetic Islamic education plays an important role in instilling ethical and spiritual values as a measure to prevent corruption. Several studies have shown that the integration of prophetic values in the Islamic education curriculum can form a culture of honesty, social responsibility, and institutional transparency. Methods: This study uses a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods to explore the meaning of teachers' experiences in implementing prophetic values in Islamic educational institutions in Solo Raya. Data was obtained through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation studies, then analyzed with Miles and Huberman's interactive model that included data reduction, presentation, and verification. Results: The results of the study show that the implementation of prophetic intelligence is effective in strengthening integrity, honesty, and accountability in the educational environment. Teachers act as an ethical bridge between spirituality and modern governance, internalizing prophetic values through example, moral habituation, and ethical reflection. Prophetic Islamic education has been proven to be able to suppress corrupt behavior and foster a culture of social responsibility. Implications: The integration of prophetic values in Islamic education has a direct impact on the establishment of educational institutions that are transparent, ethical, and just, as well as serving as a moral model for the wider community. Novelty: This study examines applying prophetic intelligence in Islamic education as an anti-corruption character strategy by integrating prophetic values into curricula, linking it to SDG 4 and SDG 16 an area still underexplored.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyse the alignment of Islamic banking service innovations with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through a maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah–based values approach, positioning Islamic finance as a strategic actor in sustainable development. Theoretical framework: Integrates maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah principles, particularly justice (‘adl), public benefit (maṣlaḥah), and balance (tawāzun), with the multidimensional SDG paradigm encompassing economic growth, social equity, and environmental sustainability. Literature review: Conceptualisation of service innovation in Islamic banking, the relationship between Sharia values and the Sustainable Development Goals, and integration of innovation and sustainability in Islamic banking practices. Method: Employing a qualitative research design based on library research, data were analysed through stages of presentation, conceptual development, and conclusion drawing, using a hermeneutic approach to interpret the substantive relationships between maqāṣid principles and SDG targets. Results: the findings reveal a strong conceptual convergence between Islamic ethical values and key SDG dimensions, particularly poverty alleviation, social equality, and environmental protection, leading to the formulation of the Shariah Sustainable Service Framework (SSSF), which comprises three interconnected pillars: spirituality as a moral foundation, social justice as the orientation of benefit distribution, and economic efficiency as an instrument of productive sustainability. Implications: This framework provides normative and strategic guidance for Islamic financial institutions in designing ethically grounded and sustainability-oriented service innovations, while offering regulators and policymakers a reference for strengthening sharia-based governance aligned with global development agendas. Novelty: This study lies in the development of an original integrative framework that systematically bridges maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah values with SDG indicators, advancing Islamic banking from a compliance-driven model toward a value-based paradigm of sustainable development.
