Abstract

Introduction: Chronic energy deficiency (CED) in pregnant women is a significant public health concern in Indonesia, with a prevalence of 17.3% in 2018. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of stunting prevention in CED pregnant women by providing exclusive breastfeeding until the baby is 6 months old in Central Sulawesi Province. Methods: A quantitative analytical approach with a group pre-test–post-test design was employed. The study was conducted at the Kampung Baru Health Center, Luwuk Banggai Regency, and the Lambunu 2 Health Center, Parigi Moutong Regency, between May and August 2023. The sample consisted of 38 pregnant women with CED, selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires on maternal knowledge about nutrition for pregnant women and exclusive breastfeeding. The intervention included providing health education on nutrition and a balanced menu for pregnant women, exclusive breastfeeding, and recording the consumption of supplementary feeding (PMT) biscuits. Results: The results showed a significant increase in mothers' knowledge about nutrition for pregnant women and exclusive breastfeeding after the intervention (p<0.05). Additionally, there was a significant reduction in the incidence of CED after the intervention (p=0.000). Conclusions: The study concludes that providing assistance to pregnant women through health education and PMT biscuits can effectively reduce the incidence of CED and improve maternal knowledge about nutrition and exclusive breastfeeding. These findings highlight the importance of implementing comprehensive interventions to prevent stunting and improve maternal and child health outcomes in Indonesia.

Abstract

Background: Sleep disorders for children can affect their emotions and behavior, to overcome the quality of sleep that is not optimal, one of which is with massage. Massage using lavender-scented oil can have a relaxing effect on the baby's body. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of the baby's sleep duration by massaging using lavender aroma oil. Methods: This study was designed to involve 30 respondents. The sample takers used simple random sampling by drawing lots based on inclusion criteria, namely babies aged 6-12 months, healthy babies and willing to be repondent, and exclusion criteria, namely sick babies requiring treatment. The study was conducted in May and June and the data were collected using questionnaires. The Wilcoxon test was used to analyze the data. Results: before the massage, 27 (90.0%) babies with insufficient sleep quality were found and there were 3 (10.0%) babies who were classified as having sufficient sleep quality. Through Wilcoxon's test, his analysis found that Z is -4.690 and p-value is 0.000 (<0.05). P < 0.05 so that Ha is accepted by Ho is rejected, meaning that there is an effect of baby massage using lavender-scented oil on the length of sleep of babies aged 6-12 months. Conclusion: Baby massage using lavender-scented oil is optimal for the length of sleep of babies aged 6-12 months. Medical workers are proposed to take part in baby massage training so that they can educate and practice baby massage at the posyandu

Abstract

Stunting remains a significant public health problem in Indonesia, particularly in Donggala District, where the prevalence has reached 32.4%. In Loli Tasiburi Village, the prevalence of stunted children under five is 28%, exceeding the national average. Local government efforts through supplementary feeding have not been sufficient to reduce the prevalence, thus requiring additional interventions such as education and cadre empowerment. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of village cadres in stunting prevention through Training based on the Pocket Book for Smart Cadres to Prevent Stunting. The methods included interactive education, hands-on anthropometric measurement practice, pocket book distribution, and one-month mentoring. Evaluation was done through pre-test and post-test, skills observation, and post-training monitoring. The results showed a significant increase in cadre knowledge, with the average score rising from 58.5 to 84.2 (an increase of 43.9%), and 85% of participants could perform anthropometric measurements according to WHO standards. Post-training mentoring reinforced the cadres’ ability to apply their skills in community health posts, as indicated by the increased reports of early stunting detection and nutrition education for pregnant women and toddlers. The pocket book proved effective as a practical guide supporting program sustainability. This activity successfully enhanced cadre capacity in stunting prevention, although program continuity requires multi-sectoral support from village government, health centers, and local health authorities.

Abstract

Preterm birth (PTB) remains a significant public health challenge in developing countries, contributing to high neonatal morbidity and mortality rates. This qualitative literature review aims to explore the maternal risk factors influencing the incidence of preterm birth in these regions. By examining existing studies, the review identifies key maternal characteristics such as age, nutritional status, socioeconomic factors, reproductive history, and healthcare access, which contribute to the risk of PTB. Additionally, the review highlights the role of environmental factors, including stress, pollution, and infections, in increasing preterm birth rates. The findings suggest that improving maternal healthcare, enhancing public awareness, and addressing socioeconomic disparities are essential in reducing the prevalence of preterm birth in developing countries. This study provides a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing PTB and offers insights for developing targeted interventions aimed at reducing its incidence in resource-limited settings.

Abstract

Adolescent health services remain a concern in Central Sulawesi due to low adolescent participation in adolescent posyandu (community health posts for adolescents). This community service activity aims to empower youth health cadres to increase participation in the implementation of youth health posts in Tanambulawa Subdistrict, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi. The intervention comprised training and the implementation of adolescent posyandu. Evaluation employed a pretest–posttest design for the cadres and monitoring of posyandu activities. The program was conducted in February–March 2024. Twenty-five cadres participated in the training, and 17 adolescents attended the posyandu. The average knowledge score increased from 6.04 (pretest) to 8.32 (posttest). The adolescent posyandu was held on 8 March 2024 in Sibalaya Selatan Village. In conclusion, the training improved cadres’ knowledge about adolescent posyandu and adolescent anemia, and the posyandu activities were successfully implemented. It is recommended that adolescent program coordinators and cadres intensify outreach to adolescents and parents regarding the importance of adolescent posyandu.
