Abstract

Seaweed cultivation is an important activity in most coastal villages in Indonesia. Seaweed farming is mainly carried out by men, as longline fishing requires a lot of energy and can only be done by men. Women only help with small tasks such as tying and drying the seaweed. One of the most serious problems facing seaweed farmers is the presence of fish pests that attack the algae. This non-profit initiative aims to introduce innovations in seaweed farming to increase seaweed production and strengthen the role of women in seaweed farming. The horizontal net innovation prevents fish pests from attacking the seaweed during cultivation. This charity activity was carried out in one of the coastal villages in Eleke District, North Buton Local Government Area. This charity activity was carried out through training and operational support in the use of horizontal network devices. During the activity, it was noticed that residents, especially women, participated in the training with great enthusiasm. The activity was attended by 20 mothers representing seaweed farmers in the Ereke Local Government Area. This activity will lead to improved knowledge and skills in horizontal network management, especially women empowerment. It has been made easier for women seaweed farmers to design materials and produce horizontal nets directly. This horizontal net tool is very user-friendly and hassle-free to use.

Abstract

Understanding the complex dynamics of aquatic ecosystems is very important for sustainable resource management in the field of aquatic resource management studies. This study aims to determine the distribution, abundance and diversity of phytoplankton and its correlation with water temperature around the PLTU Nii Tanasa area. The sampling method used is purposive sampling by taking water samples using a plankton net at predetermined stations. Data analysis of abundance, diversity, dominance, and correlation using Microsoft excel software. The number of samples found was 12 types of phytoplankton and came from several different classes. Abundance index (N) = low-moderate fertility (low enough), diversity index (H) = moderate category, dominance (C) = low, indicating stable community structure conditions. Water quality is classified as waters with moderate levels of pollution. Correlation of abundance, diversity and dominance of phytoplankton with water temperature has a positive and negative linear relationship.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the nitrogen content in the thallus of K. alvarezii in relation to filamentous algae attachment. The research location was determined using the purposive sampling method. This study used a horizontal net (horinet) as a cultivation tool. Sampling of K. alvarezii thallus was conducted over 35 days with a 7-day interval. A total of 20 thallus were collected during the study, consisting of 10 thallus with attached filamentous algae and 10 thallus without attached filamentous algae. The nitrogen content in the thallus was calculated using the Kjeldahl method, which involves three main stages: digestion, distillation, and titration. The results showed that the types of attached filamentous algae included one species from the class Chlorophyta, namely Chaetomorpha crassa, and one species from the class Rhodophyta, namely Neosiphonia apiculata. The highest average nitrogen content in the thallus when filamentous algae were attached was 1.121%, and the lowest was 0.863%. In contrast, in thallus without attached filamentous algae, the highest average nitrogen content was 1.274%, and the lowest was 0.942%. The results of the one-way ANOVA test analysis indicated no significant difference in nitrogen content between thallus with and without attached filamentous algae.
