Abstract

One of West Sumatra's popular dairy products is Dadih, a traditional food made from buffalo milk and processed by natural fermentation in a bamboo tube. Dadih could be a local food enriched by a natural probiotic source. However, the Dadih is rarely processed into other food products due to a need for more information for farmers and the community. The innovation can be done by using it as an additional ingredient in a product, such as Gelato. Making Gelato has simple steps mixing all the ingredients with the addition of curd. This community engagement activity started with education on the good of Dadih's nutrition, followed by direct assistance in making Gelato, and then counselling groups of farmers in the district of 50 Kota. The activities were conducted on July 24, 2022, and were well responded to by the groups of farmers. Gelato processing that was carried out could produce with Dadih.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between inseminator characteristics (internal and external) to the success of AI in Sawahlunto City. The objects of this research observation are all inseminators in Sawahlunto City. The data were analyzed with the simultaneous F test to see the effect of the variables simultaneously and the Partial T Test to see the effect of each variable. The results of the study found that the success of artificial insemination in Sawahlunto City was not very good, where an average S/C value of 3.04 was found. Internal characteristics (years of service, thoroughness, responsibility, technical ability in straw and thawing management, ability to understand the anatomy of the reproductive organs) and external (distance from home to work area, completeness of facilities and infrastructure, sanitation of equipment, communication of livestock reporting) have a significant relationship (P<0.05) on AI success, while internal (experience, training intensity) and external characteristics (IB postal conditions) did not have a significant relationship (P>0.05) to AI success in Sawahlunto City. From the results of this study it can be concluded that the characteristics of the inseminator (external and internal) influence the success of AI in Sawahlunto City. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out how the semen quality of pesisir cattle was after the addition of trehalose to egg yolk tris diluent. The research material in the form of fresh semen was obtained from pesisir cattle aged approximately 4 years and the quality of the semen had been tested by observing the quality of fresh semen before dilution.. This study used a randomized block design with 4 treatments and 4 replications. The treatment given was the addition of trehalose in egg yolk tris diluent. The treatment given consisted of control, the addition of trehalose 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5%. The variables in this study included motility, viability, intact plasma membrane (MPU), and intact acrosome cap (TAU) of spermatozoa of pesisir cattle. The results of this study indicated that the addition of trehalose had a significant effect (p<0.05) on the viability, MPU, TAU, and did not show a significant effect (p>0.05) on the motility of spermatozoa of pesisir cattle. The results of this study indicated that the dose of trehalose addition of 1.5% in egg yolk tris diluent showed the best results on the quality of spermatozoa of pesisir cattle, where motility was found to be 53%, viability 61%, MPU 63%, and TAU 63%. Abstract

The application of cryopreservation to preserve germplasm in such specific breed requires preliminary studies, primarily related to the resistance of spermatozoa to low temperatures (4 – 5 °C) as measured by their motility and longevity. In this study, semen taken from five phenotypes of Kokok Balengeek Chicken (KBC) (Biriang, Jalak, Kinantan, Kuriak, and Taduang) was used to evaluate the effect of Ringer’s Lactate-egg yolk diluent on longevity and motility of spermatozoa. The treatments consisted of Ringer’s Lactate (RL) solution added with egg yolk at a concentration of 1% (RLKT1), 3% (RLKT3), and 5% (RLKT5). Evaluation of fresh semen showed that the spermatozoa of Jalak had the highest motility, namely 75.63 ± 0.5% (P<0.05). Post-dilution longevity and motility observations were carried out at 0, 24, 48, and 72 h, significantly decreasing each time (P<0.05). The lowest range of reduction was found in Jalak spermatozoa diluted with RL with longevity of 7.75 ± 0.70 days. Overall, the RL diluent showed the highest motility after 24 h, namely 41.13 ± 2.27%. Adding egg yolks to Ringer's Lactate solution could not maintain the motility of KBC spermatozoa when stored at 4-5°C for 48-72 h.

Abstract

Animal pregnancy testing is one of the techniques/tools used to detect animal pregnancy. This livestock pregnancy test kit can identify early pregnancy in beef cattle, which is useful for farmers to take appropriate actions in reproductive management and cattle care. The objectives of this activity are: 1. to improve farmers' knowledge of early pregnancy detection and the cattle reproduction process to increase the birth rate of calves, 2. to enhance farmers' skills in early pregnancy detection in cattle to improve efficiency in farm operations, and 3. to disseminate early cattle pregnancy technology using pregnancy test kits to farmer groups within the campus community in Padang City. This activity was conducted in a cattle group within the campus community located in Pauh Subdistrict, Padang City. The methods of this activity included counseling, training/demonstration, and evaluation. Participants in this activity were the Taruko Sakato Farmer Group, lecturers, and students from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Andalas University. The results of this activity were that participants understood the principles of the test kit, collected necessary urine samples, and improved their skills and understanding in independently and accurately detecting animal pregnancy. The application of this cattle pregnancy test kit technology is expected to assist farmers in enhancing productivity and efficiency in cattle reproductive and production management, thereby positively impacting farmers and local food security. In conclusion, this activity provided knowledge, understanding, and practical skills to farmer groups/partners in adopting innovative technology for improving their livestock farming outcomes.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the inputs given, the process of implementing the UPPO program, and the results of the UPPO program in Solok Regency. Respondents in the study were Farmer Groups who received assistance from the Organic Fertilizer Processing Unit (UPPO) program in 2017, namely the Kelompok Tani Hulu Gawan, Kandih Maju Bersama, dan Kelompok Tani Sawah Rambahan. The method that we used in this study is a survey method. The observed variables are inputs  and outputs of implementation of the UPPO program. The results of this study indicate that the inputs for the UPPO program assistance carried out by the research farmer groups are match accordance with the technical instructions for processing organic fertilizers. The livestock breeds used were Simmenal Cattle, Ongole Crossbreed, Limousin and Coastal Cattle. The feed given to livestock is field grass and beef, livestock rearing is carried out intensively, disease prevention that has been carried out is cage sanitation and treatment of intestinal worms by giving Albendazole bolus drug and in kelompok tani Hulu Gawan, injured cattle are given Gusanex Antiseptic spray. For the cattle marketing is generally through intermediary trading. The production of organic fertilizer for the Kelompok Tani  Hulu Gawan  is 2.1 tons/month with 9 livestock, Kandih Maju Bersama 1.4 tons/month with 5 livestock and Sawah Rambahan 1.7 tons/month with 7 livestock. Birth rate of cattle in the Kelompok Tani Hulu Gawan in  the number of children born was 2, Kandih Maju Bersama and Sawah Rambahan was 1 cattle. None of the cattle of the Kandih Maju Bersama and Sawah Rambahan farmer groups died, while the Kelompok Tani Hulu Gawan had 1 death. Abstract

This study aims to examine the composition of the pH, cooking loss and water holding capacity of Bali cattle, at different ages and muscle locations. The locations of the muscles observed were the Longissimus dorsi (LD), Pectoralis superficialis (PS), Semitendinosus (ST) and Triceps Brachii (TB) muscles. Cattle aged 1-1.5 years and 3.5-4 years with moderate body condition, 250 g of each sample was taken for every 6 Bali cattle. This study used a 4x2x3 factorial design with a total of 24 experimental units, in a randomized block design (RBD), factor A was muscle type (A1 (LD), A2 (PS), A3 (ST), and A4 (TB)). Factor B is age (B1 aged 1-1.5 years and B2 aged 3.5-4 years). The treatment showed a significant effect, so further tests were carried out using the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) and how to analyze the data using SPSS. The variables measured were pH, cooking losses and water holding capacity. The research data was processed using analysis of variation (ANOVA). The results of this study concluded that there was no interaction between the type of muscle and the age of the cattle in the meat quality test on pH, cooking loss and water holding capacity of Bali beef. Muscle type has no effect on pH, cooking loss and water holding capacity of Bali beef. Age greatly influences the pH of Bali beef and affects the water holding capacity of Bali beef, but has no effect on cooking loss of Bali beef. Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi karakteristik sifat kualitatif dan kuantitatif sapi silangan sapi Pesisir dan sapi Friesian Holstein (FH). Penelitian menggunakan 60 ekor sapi silangan sapi Pesisir dan sapi Friesian Holstein (FH). Metode Penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode berupa pengamatan dan pengukuran langsung dilapangan. Sifat kualitatif yang diamati adalah warna bulu, warna moncong, warna lingkar mata, tanduk dan gelambir. Hasil penelitian antara lain bahwa sifat kualitatif hasil persilangan dengan 3 variasi warna bulu induk, indukan berwan merah bulu merah menghasilkan bulu berwarna paling dominan coklat kemerahan hitam (40,00%), Warna moncong dominan hitam (91,11%). Lingkar mata berwarna dominan hitam (88,89), Muncul tanduk (100,00%) dan bergelamir (100,00%). Indukan berwarna hitam menghasilkan bulu berwarna dominan hitam putih (90,00%), Warna moncong berwarna dominan hitam (91,11%). Warma lingkar mata hitam (100,00%). Muncul tanduk (100,00%) dan bergelambir (100,00%). Indukan berwarna Putih menghasilkan warna bulu dominan berwarna hitam putih (80,00%), Warna moncong hitam (100,00%), warna lingkar mata hitam (100,00%). Muncul tanduk (100,00%) dan bergelambir (100,00%). Ukuran tubuh betina umur 0,3,6 bulan berturut-turut : Panjang Badan (56,49 cm ± 2,65, 76,11 cm ± 4,16, 92,22 cm ± 2,38), Tinggi Pundak (55,76 cm ± 3,90, 75,00 cm ± 3,95, 89,89 cm ± 2,62), Lingkar dada (69,14 cm ± 2,12, 90,32 cm ± 3,67, 100,41 cm ± 1,62), Panjang Kepala (20,41 cm ± 1,36, 22,03 cm ± 1,61, 25,35 cm ± 2,26), Lebar kepala (10,51 cm ± 1,04, 12,32 cm ± 0,97, 13,57 cm ± 1,09), Bobot badan (24,90 cm ± 1,43, 57,38 cm ± 5,69, 85,79 cm ± 3,61). Abstract

Kabupaten Dharmasraya adalah daerah yang menjadi bagian dari pusat pengembangan ternak sapi di wilayah Sumatera Barat, berbagai kegiatan penyuluhan sudah banyak di lakukan dalam diseminasi inovasi peternakan, terutama pada peternakan sapi potong. Realitasnya usaha ini tidak berkembang, justru mengalami penurunan populasi hingga 9,1% dalam kurun satu tahun terakhir. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kualifikasi penyuluh dan mendeskripsikan pelaksanan penyuluhan pada peternakan sapi potong. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode survey dan didukung dengan observasi langsung di lapangan. Penetapan sampel penelitian dilakukan secara  purposive sampling dan didapatkan jumlah sampel sebanyak 60 peternak yang berasal dari lima kelompok peternak sapi potong dan mewakili lima wilayah transmigrasi dan telah mengikuti penyuluhan secara intensif. Teknik analisis data adalah deskriptif kuantitatif, berupa skor dan persentase. Hasil penelitian adalah kualifikasi penyuluh sudah tergolong pada kategori baik, dengan rata rata persentase adalah 87,86% dan pelaksanaan penyuluhan tergolong  kategori sedang dengan rata rata persentase adalah 78,19%. Kesimpulan penelitian adalah meskipun kualifikasi penyuluh sudah pada kualifikasi baik, namun belum tentu  dapat menjamin pelaksanaan penyuluhan berjalan secara baik pula, terbukti pelaksanaan penyuluhan hanya kategori sedang, sehingga hasil riset ini berguna dalam memberikan masukan pada Dinas terkait untuk perbaikan pelaksanaan penyuluhan pada peternak sapi potong di daerah Kabupaten Dharmasraya Provinsi Sumatera Barat pada masa yang akan datang.

Abstract

AbstractThe purpose of this study was to know the quality of Boer liquid semen during storage by adding sweet orange essential oil and gentamicin into the tris yolkextender.The semenlongevity test was carried out by storing semen in a closed tube at room temperature and refrigerator, and evaluated motility and Viability every 3 hours at room temperature and 12 hours in refrigerator. The results showed that the characteristics of the liquid semen, with the addition of 1% of essential oils showed percentage of motility and Viability significantly higher than 0.5% and without the addition of essential oil, either stored at room temperature or in the refrigerator. This may be related to the content of essential oils of sweet orange peel containing flavonoids and antibacterials that are capable of maintaining liquid semen quality of Boer Goat.In addition, gentamicin contains antibacterials capable of suppressing the growth of bacteria which can damage and durabilitythe spermatozoa.Keywords: Boer Goat,Gentamicin, Liquid semen, Sweet orange
