Abstract

Tilapia is one of the leading commodities in fisheries and requires proper handling in the distribution process so that fish do not experience stress and death. One of them is by using anesthesia. Anesthetic ingredients are divided into two, namely natural and artificial, one of the natural ingredients that has the potential as an anesthetic is ketapang leaves because it has flavanoid and alkaloid compounds that are considered capable of providing hypnotic sedative effects and anti-anxiety substances for fish. The study applied 4 treatments (5 ppm; 10 ppm; 15 ppm; and 20 ppm) of ketapang leaf infusum solution with the method used was descriptive qualitative to obtain research conclusions. The results obtained were the use of ketapang leaf infusion was able to increase lymphocyte levels from 42.13-58.15% to 52.35-60.21%. At a concentration of 20 ppm ketapang leaf infusion has the fastest inductive time of 23 minutes 41 seconds with a sedative time of 18 minutes 52 seconds. From these results it can be concluded that ketapang leaf infusion has potential as a natural anesthetic, but other studies are still needed regarding the percentage of content, effective dose and toxicity of ketapang leaf infusion solution on the hematological condition of tilapia.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study was aimed to analyze the growth performance of African catfish Clarias gariepinus cultured in the biofloc system at high stocking density. African catfish with an average weight of 1.85±0.09 g were cultured in four units of tarpaulin tank at a diameter of 1.72 m and a height of 1.05 m with a volume of ±2,000 L at the different density of 1,000 fish/m3; 1,500 fish/m3; 2,000 fish/m3; 2,500 fish/m3. During rearing period, fish were given the artificial feed with protein contents of 28.75% with the frequency of twice a day, as much as 3% of the body weight. The results showed that different treatment of high stocking density in the biofloc system had a significant effect on the absolute growth rate, lipid retention and energy retention (P<0.05) but not significant effect on daily growth rate. The results showed that the highest lipid retention and energy retention were found in the group of fish treated at a stocking density of 2,500 fish/m3 but declining protein retention and growth in fish occurred. The highest absolute growth rate and daily growth rate were shown by treatment with a stocking density of 1,500 fish/m3.

Abstract

Plana Village located in Somagede District, Banyumas Regency, Central Java Province is about 25 km Southeast of the Universitas Jenderal Soedirman Campus. In this village, a small business group is engaged in freshwater fish farming under the names TIRTA LESTARI and GAPOKTAN PLANA JAYA fish cultivator groups. Based on direct observations, the group uses the Serayu River as the primary water source for their fish ponds. The position of the fish pond is around 10 meters higher than the river flow so the water lifting process is carried out using a water pump. The only solution for providing water is to use a machine-powered water pump. The group complained about this solution because they had to pay operational costs for engine fuel. As a result, the group's profits are not optimized. Considering these conditions, a water pump technology transfer activity with a waterwheel as the driving force is planned to develop the results of research and service carried out in the Physics Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman.  The goal of the operations that have been conducted is to address partner concerns regarding the provision of water supplies. Activities aimed at becoming an economically productive partner will prioritize key issues, including the implementation of green energy technology, such as hybrid water pumps powered by solar energy and river flow. The next step involves providing training and counseling sessions for the TIRTA LESTARI agriculture group and the merged PLANA JAYA farming group.

Abstract

One of the reservoirs in Central Java is Penjalin Reservoir, which is specifically situated in Winduaji Village, Paguyangan District, Brebes Regency. Penjalin Reservoir is now dealing with environmental degradation issues, such as highly filthy water and rapidly growing water algae that might upset the ecosystem's equilibrium. The Jenderal Soedirman University (UNSOED) Team and the local Village Government, working through the Village Community Empowerment Institution (LPMD), followed up on this by developing a program of activities to combat environmental degradation in order to preserve the ecosystem's equilibrium and generate income for the neighborhood. Socialization and training for this program were conducted as a first stage. Technical advice for fish farming operations, including seed certification and business management training, will also be provided. Efforts are also being made to reintroduce fish, particularly herbivorous fish species, in an attempt to quickly overcome hydrilla. Facilities for consultation are offered as a crucial component of carrying out this activity. The first stage, socialization and training targeted at the people living near the Penjalin Reservoir, is the main topic of this essay. Educating the community about the current state of the Penjalin Reservoir and the significance of maintaining the aquatic ecosystem's equilibrium is the top goal during the socialization stage. In addition to talking about environmental issues, this program also covers the financial benefits of managing the Penjalin Reservoir sustainably, such as by raising carp and tilapia, which both benefit the ecosystem and boost revenue. Participants are encouraged to comprehend the training's goal of preserving the ecology and boosting the local economy by highlighting the significance of the community's active participation in improvements to the reservoir. The execution of the following work stage depends on this task. An excellent partner that may support and act as a stimulant for the local population is LPMD, an official village-level organization. A participatory strategy is used to carry out the programs, meaning that program partners actively participate in every activity.

Abstract

This study focuses on the growth and meat weight percentage of Hotate clams (Patinopecten yessoensis) during the rearing phase in Funka Bay, Hokkaido, Japan. Japan, as a major producer of seafood, including Hotate clams, plays a significant role in global seafood consumption. The objective of this study was to analyze the length-weight relationship of Hotate scallops and assess their meat weight percentage during the rearing phase. The research method involved observations using a random sampling technique during the period from August to October 2022. Samples were taken in Funka Bay, with coordinates between 42°20'-42°40' North and 140°00'-141°00' East at a depth of 43 meters. Results showed that the length-weight relationship of Hotate clams during August to October exhibited a negative allometric growth pattern, with the highest constant reaching 2.640. This means that length growth is faster than body weight. The percentage of Hotate clam (P. yessoensis) meat weight during the rearing phase ranged from 31.03% to 35.70%. This study provides important insights into the growth and meat composition of Hotate clams during critical phases in their culture in Funka Bay, Hokkaido, Japan. It can serve as a valuable information foundation for the management and maintenance of sustainable and productive Hotate clam aquaculture in the future.
