Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates how the implementation of a Property Management System at Nio Garden Hotel Sumbawa influences the efficiency of Front Office operations and the overall quality of guest service. It seeks to understand the extent to which early adoption of a digital management platform can support a new hotel in a developing tourism region. Research methods: A qualitative case study approach was employed. Primary data were gathered through a semi structured interview with the Front Office Manager. Secondary data comprised a thematic analysis of twenty nine guest reviews sourced from Google Review, Booking.com, Tiket.com, and Agoda.com. The property management system under study is Atlantis. Results and discussion: The system has improved the speed and accuracy of reservation handling, check in and check out procedures, billing, and room status management. Nevertheless, challenges persist in the assignment of rooms under maintenance, uneven integration of payment methods in the restaurant, and lapses in communication that affect breakfast availability and guest notifications. These findings indicate that while the system has potential, full optimization is hindered by staff learning curves and partial deployment of key features. Implication: To maximize the benefits of a property management system in small or family-owned hotels, continuous staff training, deeper integration across all hotel departments, and proactive digital communication strategies are essential. This will lead to more consistent service delivery and higher levels of guest satisfaction.

Abstract

Ternate is celebrated for its historic spice trade and has recently adopted the Kota Rempah brand to promote its culinary heritage in support of sustainable tourism. This study examines 93 local MSMEs and their 48 unique gastronomic souvenirs—from nutmeg and kenari confections to seafood preserves—to evaluate their contributions to place identity and inclusive economic growth. Utilizing a qualitative case study design, data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with tourism office and Dekranasda officials, MSME owners, and field observations. Findings reveal that most enterprises cluster in urban districts, a diverse product range rooted in local ingredients, and strong stakeholder interest tempered by challenges in branding consistency, packaging, and geographic reach. The analysis highlights how culinary souvenirs function as cultural carriers, fostering emotional connections, longer visitor stays, and repeat visitation, while also empowering women led businesses and community livelihoods. To harness these opportunities, integrated policy measures are recommended, including shared packaging facilities, cohesive Kota Rempah branding guidelines, and expanded support for peripheral areas. Finally, pursuing geographic indication status for key spice products is proposed to protect authenticity, enhance market differentiation, and further advance sustainable tourism development in Ternate.

Abstract

Abstrak : Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat merupakan sebuah kegiatan yang bertujuan untuk memberikan pengetahuan dan keterampilan bagi masyarakat. Kegiatan pelatihan yang dilakukan dalam artikel ini adalah pelatihan pembuatan Nasi Kebuli dan Salata Fattoush kepada ibu-ibu anggota PKK di Perumahan Pondok Arum, Tangerang. Pemilihan lokasi pelatihan dilakukan setelah dilakukan pra survei mengenai kebutuhan mitra dalam kegiatan wirausaha makanan dan minuman. Pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pengetahuan tentang cara mengolah dan memasak makanan Arab-Indonesia dengan manfaat yang diharapkan yaitu lestarinya budaya kuliner yang sudah terakulturasi dalam masyarakat Indonesia. Makanan Arab-Indonesia dipilih karena popularitas dan keunikan yang dapat meningkatkan peluang bisnis bagi para peserta pelatihan. Kegiatan ini nantinya dapat membantu mitra dengan memberikan gambaran serta ide dalam membuka usaha sendiri. Pelatihan dilakukan dengan metode ceramah dan demonstrasi kepada 22 individu dengan pretes dan post-test untuk mengevaluasi hasil kegiatan. Setelah pelatihan dilakukan, hasil post-test menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan pada peserta pelatihan, dan menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan dapat berjalan dengan efektif. Hasil yang positif ini diharapkan dapat membantu peserta dalam mengembangkan usaha mereka sendiri, khususnya dalam bidang jasa penyediaan makanan dan minuman.Kata Kunci: Nasi Kebuli, Pelatihan Memasak, Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat, Salata Fattoush, Wirausaha

Abstract

Perubahan preferensi wisatawan menuju pengalaman yang lebih personal dan autentik telah mendorong pengembangan desa wisata berbasis komunitas di Indonesia. Desa Wisata Tinalah di Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta, menjadi contoh destinasi yang memadukan keindahan alam dan budaya lokal. Namun, pengelola pondok wisata di desa ini menghadapi tantangan dalam keterampilan tata graha, khususnya merapikan tempat tidur dan seni melipat handuk, yang penting untuk meningkatkan kualitas layanan dan kepuasan tamu. Program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dirancang untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan pengelola pondok wisata melalui pelatihan berbasis ceramah, demonstrasi, dan praktik langsung. Hasil pretest dan posttest menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman peserta, dengan rata-rata kenaikan di atas 20% pada berbagai aspek teknis. Peningkatan terbesar terlihat pada penggunaan handuk dalam seni melipat, mencerminkan efektivitas pendekatan berbasis pengalaman. Program ini tidak hanya meningkatkan keterampilan pengelola pondok wisata, tetapi juga mendukung keberlanjutan pariwisata berbasis komunitas. Akademisi disarankan untuk mereplikasi program ini di desa lain, sementara pemerintah diharapkan memberikan dukungan melalui pelatihan serupa guna memperkuat daya saing destinasi wisata lokal. Keberhasilan ini membuktikan pentingnya pemberdayaan masyarakat dalam mendukung pengembangan pariwisata berkelanjutan.

Abstract

The research paper investigates the cultural exchange between Javanese and Chinese traditions in rural tourism at Desa Wisata Besani, Central Java. Rural tourism has become popular among international travelers seeking authentic experiences and sustainable community engagement. Desa Wisata Besani, known as the "Acculturation Gate of Java-China," offers a unique blend of Javanese and Chinese influences, making it an intriguing destination. The study uses qualitative methods to understand the factors attracting tourists and the impact on the local community's livelihood and identity. The village's strengths, such as its rich cultural heritage and strategic location, contribute to its aspiration of becoming a thriving rural tourism destination and a cultural exchange hub. The rising interest in cultural tourism and China's investments present growth opportunities for the village. Integrating Mandarin language learning into the tourism experience further enhances its appeal to Chinese tourists. The study acknowledges limitations and suggests future research directions. In conclusion, Desa Wisata Besani showcases the potential of rural tourism in fostering cultural understanding and appreciation, benefiting both tourists and the local community.

Abstract

This study examines strategic capacities and aspirations of 14 Indonesian tourism villages through a cross-regional SWOT and SOAR analysis. Using a qualitative multiple-case study design, semi-structured interviews was conducted with one Pokdarwis (Tourism Awareness Group) representative per village and reviewed secondary documents, coding data manually in Excel. Thematic analysis identified three core strengths rich natural attractions, distinctive cultural heritage, and active community involvement and three primary weaknesses underdeveloped infrastructure, limited strategic capacity, and low digital promotion. Key opportunities emerged around digital marketing, niche tourism product development, and multi-stakeholder collaboration, while environmental risks and fragmented governance surfaced as major threats. Informants’ aspirations centered on becoming models of eco-cultural tourism, empowering youth, and integrating tradition with modern strategies. Early results include increased homestay revenues, growth of MSMEs, and the revival of cultural events, demonstrating that asset-based planning coupled with targeted capacity building can yield sustainable outcomes. The findings underscore the value of combining diagnostic (SWOT) and forward-looking (SOAR) frameworks to guide community-based tourism development and offer practical insights for policymakers and practitioners aiming to foster inclusive growth, cultural preservation, and ecological resilience. Abstract

This study explores the potential of Batik Tidayu to be developed as a Geographical Indication (GI) product in the future, with the aim of supporting sustainable cultural tourism in Singkawang, Indonesia. Batik Tidayu is a contemporary textile that reflects the multicultural identity of the city through the fusion of Tionghoa, Dayak, and Melayu traditions. The research employed a qualitative approach, using interviews with the Tourism Office and Dekranasda of Singkawang, supported by document analysis and relevant scholarly literature. The findings indicate that while Batik Tidayu embodies strong cultural heritage value, it currently faces key challenges such as the absence of a producer association (MPIG), lack of product standardization, and limited awareness of communal intellectual property rights. Nevertheless, stakeholders recognize its potential as a cultural asset capable of preserving local identity, empowering artisans, and contributing to the creative economy. The study concludes that collaboration among government, artisans, academics, and communities is essential to prepare Batik Tidayu for GI recognition and to align it with long-term sustainable tourism development. Abstract

This study explores the cultural and spatial limitations surrounding the use of traditional houses (Sa’o) as tourist accommodations in Kampung Adat Wologai, a cultural village in Ende Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. While rural tourism and desa wisata development often promote homestays in vernacular architecture, the sacred function of the Sa’o renders such usage inappropriate in Wologai. Using a qualitative case study approach, this research draws on field observations, semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders—including Mosalaki, village officials, tourism groups, and the local tourism office—and secondary data from academic and government sources. The findings reveal that the Sa’o are central to ancestral rituals and cannot be opened to outsiders for overnight stays. In response, the Dinas Pariwisata proposed a terminological and spatial distinction between rumah adat and rumah tradisional to guide future accommodation planning. A SWOT and SOAR analysis shows potential for homestay development through modern houses located outside the ritual core, reflecting cultural respect while meeting tourism demands. This research highlights the need for localized policy approaches and the vital role of customary leadership in sustainable tourism planning. Theoretically, it contributes to the discourse on heritage and tourism, while practically, it offers a culturally sensitive model for accommodation development in desa wisata with strong ritual traditions.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis potensi pengembangan sumber daya manusia dalam sektor pariwisata di Dusun Katiet, Desa Bosua, Kecamatan Sipora Selatan, Pulau Sipora, Kabupaten Kepulauan Mentawai, Provinsi Sumatera Barat. Studi kualitatif dalam penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan studi kasus dengan mengumpulkan data melalui wawancara mendalam tidak terstruktur dan Focus Group Discussion dengan berbagai pemangku kepentingan lokal, termasuk pejabat pemerintah, fasilitator desa, dan kepala desa. Hasil pengumpulan dan analisis data primer menunjukkan bahwa meskipun Katiet memiliki potensi pariwisata yang signifikan terkait surfing, komunitas lokal belum sepenuhnya terlibat dalam kegiatan pariwisata. Infrastruktur pariwisata yang belum memadai dan kurangnya keterampilan masyarakat yang berkaitan dengan industri pariwisata menjadi tantangan utama yang dihadapi komunitas tersebut. Namun demikian, temuan ini juga mengungkapkan kesediaan yang tinggi untuk meningkatkan keterlibatan lokal melalui pelatihan, pendidikan, dan dukungan kelembagaan yang tepat. Hasil penelitian ini menyoroti pentingnya penguatan kapasitas sumber daya manusia dalam konteks pariwisata untuk mendorong pengembangan berkelanjutan di Mentawai. Dengan memfokuskan pada pelatihan dan pendidikan, serta meningkatkan kerjasama antar pemangku kepentingan, penelitian ini berpotensi untuk memberikan kontribusi signifikan bagi pembangunan berkelanjutan dan kesejahteraan komunitas lokal. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dampak keterampilan komunikasi staf front office terhadap kepuasan pelanggan serta niat untuk kembali menginap di hotel bintang empat di Tangerang Selatan, dengan fokus keterampilan komunikasi yang meliputi aspek komunikasi verbal dan komunikasi non-verbal. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian kuantitatif, dengan pengumpulan data melalui kuesioner terstruktur yang disebarkan kepada 200 pelanggan pada salah satu hotel bintang empat di Tangerang Selatan. Teknik pemilihan sampel yang digunakan adalah stratified random sampling untuk memastikan representatives di berbagai demografi hotel. Data yang telah terkumpul kemudian dianalisis menggunakan perangkat lunak SmartPLS, dengan menerapkan Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) untuk menilai hubungan antara keterampilan komunikasi dengan kepuasan pelanggan. Hasil empiris menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif yang signifikan antara keterampilan komunikasi karyawan kantor depan dengan tingkat kepuasan pelanggan. Secara khusus, baik komunikasi verbal maupun nonverbal terbukti meningkatkan persepsi pelanggan terhadap kualitas pelayanan, yang mengarah pada niat yang lebih tinggi untuk kembali menginap di hotel. Hal ini  mengindikasikan bahwa manajemen hotel perlu memprioritaskan pelatihan dan pengembangan keterampilan komunikasi bagi karyawan kantor depan. Artikel ini memberikan kontribusi terhadap literatur yang ada dengan menyajikan bukti empiris tentang peran penting keterampilan komunikasi dalam industri perhotelan. Selain itu, artikel ini menawarkan wawasan praktis bagi manajer hotel yang ingin meningkatkan kepuasan dan retensi pelanggan melalui peningkatan komunikasi staf, dengan menyoroti kebaruan dalam fokus pada elemen verbal dan nonverbal dalam konteks budaya tertentu. Implementasi program pelatihan yang terarah khususnya terhadap kemampuan komunikasi karyawan kantor depan dapat meningkatkan kualitas pelayanan dan kepuasan pelanggan secara keseluruhan, sehingga mendorong loyalitas pelanggan.
