Abstract

The purpose of this research is to present a comprehensive analysis of the literature on developmental reading. The Google Scopus database and Publish or Perish tools were utilized to identify relevant articles. A total of 111 articles, spanning from 2019 to 2024, were reviewed. The references were organized and summarized using Mendeley software. Using the VOSviewer program, the authors analyzed this database and categorized the articles into five groups. Cluster 1 consists of seven items (developmental study, developmental trajectory, difference, fluency, relationship), Cluster 2 includes five items (developmental perspective, developmental trajectory, difference, fluency, relationship), Cluster 3 comprises four items (Chinese child, dyslexia, training, word), Cluster 4 contains three items (adult, developmental disability, intellectual), and Cluster 5 encompasses three items (developmental relation, evidence, reading comprehension).

Abstract

Abstract: Project-Based Learning (PBL) has evolved as an innovative method in the teaching of English writing. This study aims to trace the evolution of writing instruction by highlighting the role of PjBL through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach of more than 30 studies published between 2015 and 2025. The studies analyzed were selected based on their relevance to the teaching of English writing using PjBL, while those that did not focus on writing skills or lacked methodological clarity were excluded. The analysis showed that PjBL significantly improved students' writing skills-particularly in the aspects of idea organization, content development, and vocabulary acquisition-and boosted motivation and confidence in writing. However, there were variations in results across levels of education and types of projects used, suggesting that the effectiveness of PjBL is highly contextualized. Common challenges include teacher readiness, limited resources, and difficulty aligning projects with the curriculum. Therefore, this study recommends concrete steps such as the development of a modular and level-appropriate PjBL implementation framework, focused teacher training, and the use of digital technology in collaborative writing tasks to optimize its implementation in the classroom.Abstrak: Pembelajaran Berbasis Proyek (Project-Based Learning/PjBL) telah berkembang sebagai metode inovatif dalam pengajaran menulis bahasa Inggris. Studi ini bertujuan untuk menelusuri evolusi instruksi menulis dengan menyoroti peran PjBL melalui pendekatan Systematic Literature Review (SLR) terhadap lebih dari 30 studi yang diterbitkan antara tahun 2015 hingga 2025. Studi-studi yang dianalisis dipilih berdasarkan relevansi dengan pengajaran menulis bahasa Inggris menggunakan PjBL, sementara penelitian yang tidak menitikberatkan pada keterampilan menulis atau tidak memiliki kejelasan metodologis dikecualikan. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa PjBL secara signifikan meningkatkan keterampilan menulis siswa terutama dalam aspek organisasi ide, pengembangan isi, dan penguasaan kosakata serta mendorong motivasi dan kepercayaan diri dalam menulis. Namun, terdapat variasi hasil antar jenjang pendidikan dan jenis proyek yang digunakan, menunjukkan bahwa efektivitas PjBL sangat kontekstual. Tantangan umum meliputi kesiapan guru, keterbatasan sumber daya, dan kesulitan menyelaraskan proyek dengan kurikulum. Oleh karena itu, studi ini merekomendasikan langkah konkret seperti pengembangan kerangka implementasi PjBL yang modular dan sesuai jenjang, pelatihan guru yang terfokus, serta pemanfaatan teknologi digital dalam tugas menulis kolaboratif untuk mengoptimalkan penerapannya di kelas.

Abstract

Abstract: The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) has brought significant transformation in the world of education, especially in the development of writing skills of English language students. This research aims to analyze the impact of AI on the writing skills of English students through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. Literature was collected from indexed databases such as Google Scholar, DOAJ, and Scopus within the last 10 years (2013-2024), using relevant keywords. Data analysis techniques were thematic to identify patterns, challenges, and opportunities in the application of AI in learning to write. The results showed that AI plays a role in improving writing skills through automatic feedback, personalized learning, and improved grammar accuracy. However, challenges such as technology dependency, academic ethics, and AI's limitations in understanding academic language contexts remain major concerns. To optimize the benefits of AI, a balanced teaching strategy between technology utilization and direct guidance from lecturers is required. This study provides insights into the integration of AI in writing instruction as well as recommendations for educators in effectively implementing this technology.Abstrak: Perkembangan kecerdasan buatan (AI) yang sangat pesat telah membawa perubahan yang signifikan dalam dunia pendidikan, khususnya dalam pengembangan kemampuan menulis siswa bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dampak AI terhadap kemampuan menulis mahasiswa bahasa Inggris melalui pendekatan Systematic Literature Review (SLR). Literatur dikumpulkan dari database yang terindeks seperti Google Scholar, DOAJ, dan Scopus dalam 10 tahun terakhir (2013-2024), dengan menggunakan kata kunci yang relevan. Teknik analisis data dilakukan secara tematik untuk mengidentifikasi pola, tantangan, dan peluang dalam penerapan AI dalam pembelajaran menulis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa AI berperan dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis melalui umpan balik otomatis, pembelajaran yang dipersonalisasi, dan peningkatan akurasi tata bahasa. Namun, tantangan seperti ketergantungan teknologi, etika akademik, dan keterbatasan AI dalam memahami konteks bahasa akademis masih menjadi perhatian utama. Untuk mengoptimalkan manfaat AI, diperlukan strategi pengajaran yang seimbang antara pemanfaatan teknologi dan bimbingan langsung dari dosen. Penelitian ini memberikan wawasan tentang integrasi AI dalam pengajaran menulis serta rekomendasi bagi para pengajar dalam menerapkan teknologi ini secara efektif.

Abstract

Peningkatan keterampilan berbahasa Inggris menjadi kebutuhan esensial dalam dunia pendidikan, terutama bagi siswa di lingkungan boarding school yang membutuhkan pendekatan pembelajaran yang lebih efektif dan komprehensif. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan bahasa Inggris siswa secara terpadu (integrated skills) melalui metode pelatihan. Mitra dalam kegiatan ini adalah 32 siswa dari Boarding School Mua’llimin Lombok Barat. Pelaksanaan kegiatan diawali dengan sosialisasi kepada guru mengenai metode integrated skills dan pemanfaatan media pembelajaran digital, kemudian dilanjutkan dengan pelatihan intensif kepada siswa. Pelatihan ini dirancang untuk mengembangkan empat keterampilan utama dalam bahasa Inggris, yaitu mendengarkan, berbicara, membaca, dan menulis, secara simultan. Evaluasi dilakukan melalui penyebaran angket yang terdiri dari 14 butir soal untuk mengukur efektivitas pelatihan. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan adanya peningkatan keterampilan bahasa Inggris siswa sebesar 22,72%. Selain itu, siswa menunjukkan keterlibatan aktif selama sesi pelatihan, serta peningkatan kepercayaan diri dalam menggunakan bahasa Inggris secara lisan maupun tulisan. Keberhasilan program ini mengindikasikan bahwa metode integrated skills dan penggunaan media digital efektif dalam meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Diharapkan hasil pengabdian ini dapat menjadi referensi bagi program serupa di lingkungan pendidikan berbasis asrama.

Abstract

Abstrak Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi bahasa Inggris anggota Kelompok Sadar Wisata (Pokdarwis) Sejahtera di Desa Medana, Kabupaten Lombok Utara. Kegiatan ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya penguasaan bahasa Inggris fungsional anggota Pokdarwis dalam melayani wisatawan asing. Untuk mengatasi hal tersebut, tim pelaksana merancang pelatihan bahasa Inggris berbasis e-learning dengan pendekatan komunikatif yang kontekstual dan praktis. Pelatihan dilakukan dalam tiga tahap, yaitu persiapan, pelaksanaan, serta monitoring dan evaluasi. Tahap persiapan meliputi observasi kebutuhan dan penyusunan modul pembelajaran. Tahap pelaksanaan dilakukan dengan metode blended learning melalui sesi tatap muka dan daring menggunakan Google Classroom dan WhatsApp. Peserta dilibatkan secara aktif dalam kegiatan simulasi, diskusi, dan praktik langsung. Evaluasi program dilakukan melalui penyebaran kuesioner Likert kepada seluruh peserta. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan ini efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Inggris peserta, terutama dalam konteks pariwisata. Selain itu, pelatihan juga meningkatkan motivasi peserta untuk terus belajar secara mandiri. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan bahasa Inggris berbasis e-learning dapat menjadi alternatif solusi pembelajaran di daerah wisata pedesaan. Kata kunci: pengabdian kepada masyarakat; bahasa inggris; pokdarwis; e-learning; pembelajaran kontekstual; pariwisata. Abstract This community service activity aims to improve the English communication skills of members of the Sejahtera Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) in Medana Village, North Lombok Regency. This activity was motivated by the low level of functional English proficiency among Pokdarwis members in serving foreign tourists. To address this issue, the implementation team designed an e-learning-based English language training program using a communicative, contextual, and practical approach. The training was conducted in three phases: preparation, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. The preparation phase involved needs assessment and the development of learning modules. The implementation phase was carried out using a blended learning method, combining face-to-face sessions and online sessions via Google Classroom and WhatsApp. Participants were actively involved in simulations, discussions, and hands-on practice. Program evaluation was conducted through the distribution of Likert questionnaires to all participants. Evaluation results indicated that the training was effective in improving participants' English language skills, particularly in the context of tourism. Additionally, the training enhanced participants' motivation to continue learning independently. These findings suggest that e-learning-based English language training can serve as an alternative solution for education in rural tourist areas. Keywords: community service; english language; pokdarwis; e-learning; contextual learning; tourism

Abstract

Pronunciation is essential for students to speak clearly and accurately. However, achieving correct pronunciation is a major challenge for many students, who find it difficult to pronounce words correctly. The aim of this study was to identify the impact of using ELSA application toward students' pronunciation practice. This study used a quantitative methotd with a descriptive approach and using survey to collect data, from the active students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Mataram. The primary data collection for this study was conducted by distributing questionnaires to 62 respondents. The questionnaire contains items that are validated and reliable, ensuring that each item accurately reflects the dimension it measures. The validity test showed that the calculated r value for each question item was greater than the r table and the reliability test showed that the Cronbach's alpha value was 0.954 for the use of the ELSA application and 0.976 for the improvement of pronunciation practice. The findings from this study corroborate the strong internal consistency of the study instrument. The study utilized a descriptive approach to describe the data distribution of both variables, by showing a mean score of 124.60 on the use of the ELSA application that the majority of respondents actively utilized the ELSA application. Conversely, the improvement of pronunciation practice showed a mean score of 79.55 that substantial improvement in pronunciation practice.
