Abstract

Background: Adolescent Reproductive Health (KRR) is a government program in Indonesia that has been implemented since 2000. The aim is to ensure that the young generation is healthy and prosperous. Teenagers are still looking for answers to reproductive health problems themselves, consulting friends, social media and other online sources because they do not fully understand the material offered in this program. Adolescents may be more likely to participate in risky behavior, such as engaging in sexual intercourse at a younger age, due to the ease of obtaining information. Methods: The "SEHATI" app, developed as a result of this research, will teach teenagers more about reproductive health. By using the ADDIE methodology (analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation), this research adheres to a Research and Development approach. Results: Media experts gave a product validation score of 75%, material experts gave a score of 100%, and educational practitioners gave a score of 99.5%, all of which indicate that the product is very suitable for use. Scores of 77.3% and 88% were achieved in small-group trials and large-group trials, respectively. This shows how well the product works. As many as 89% of students gave positive answers throughout the evaluation stage. Conclusion: With an 80% increase in student understanding, this app has great potential for future improvements in terms of content, realism, language, presentation, graphics and student learning motivation with the hope of becoming a resource for the younger generation to learn more about reproductive health.

Abstract

Background: The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Handbook is an essential tool in improving the health of pregnant women and young children. Serving as both a medical record and an educational resource, it provides vital health information for mothers and children. However, the utilization and understanding of the MCH Handbook vary across regions. This study evaluates the use of the MCH Handbook in monitoring maternal and child health in Palembang City. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed, targeting pregnant women and mothers with children aged 0–5 years from eight health centers in Palembang City. A total of 240 respondents were selected using simple random sampling. Data collection instruments were validated for reliability through Spearman-Brown, Guilford, and Cronbach's Alpha methods. Statistical analyses explored associations between utilization and factors influencing MCH Handbook use. Results: The findings indicate a high utilization rate of the MCH Handbook in Palembang City (84.2%), though variations exist in its frequency and quality of use. Key factors influencing utilization include mothers' knowledge (p=0.042, OR 2.050), attitudes (p=0.000, OR 6.718), and health worker support (p=0.000, OR 21.44). Mothers who actively use the MCH Handbook demonstrate better knowledge and attitudes toward health care during pregnancy and early childhood. Health worker support significantly enhances usage, with supported mothers being 21.44 times more likely to utilize the handbook effectively. Conclusion: In conclusion, the MCH Handbook significantly contributes to improving maternal and child health. Strengthened socialization programs, targeted training for mothers, and ongoing health worker support are recommended to optimize its utilization and effectiveness.

Abstract

Adolescence is the time when a person goes from child to adult in 10 to 24 years. This period is a worrying time for teenagers when they want to get away from dependence on their parents, feel curious to know more and are very vulnerable to risky behavior. Bina Lestari High School students have never been given counseling on how to maintain adolescent reproductive health (KRR). In order for the reproductive health status of adolescents to be maintained, it is necessary to provide assistance for health and welfare care for adolescents. The purpose of this activity is to increase the knowledge, understanding, behavior and attitudes of adolescents about reproductive health. The health education method used is in the form of counseling and mentoring discussion groups with the snake and ladder game media (MEDULA). The results of the evaluation showed that many Bina Lestari High School students gained increased knowledge after they studied reproductive health through the snake and ladder media, which included understanding reproductive health, reproductive organs, puberty, menstruation, unwanted pregnancy, and abortion, as well as sexual diseases and HIV-AIDS.

Abstract

In 2022, 2.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer worldwide. In 2022, 670,000 women died of breast cancer worldwide. This study aimed to analyze the factors that determine breast self-examination behavior (sadar) in adolescent girls. This study was conducted in the city of Palembang from April to June 2024. The design of this study was cross-sectional. The research team consisted of 18 teams spread to the smallest areas. Data collection used questionnaires and direct observation, with some ratio data categorized to facilitate statistical testing. The population of this study were adolescent girls aged 15-24 years who had both parents, lived with their parents, and were enrolled in high school at the time of data collection (inclusion criteria). The Chi-Square test was used for analysis, with data processing using computerized statistics at a 95% confidence level (α = 0.05). The results of this study indicate that behavior related to breast self-examination (BSE) is influenced by age (p = 0.010), ethnicity p = 0.000), social environment (p = 0.002), internet access (p = 0.011), information media (p = 0.000), family (p = 0.000), and peer influence (p = 0.000). In conclusion, there is a relationship between breast self-examination behavior and age, ethnicity, social environment conditions, internet access, information media, family influence, and peer influence. The implications of the findings of this study are the need to increase information and education regarding the importance of BSE in the early detection of breast cancer, especially for groups that are vulnerable to the disease.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of public participation on the effectiveness of policy implementation in local development programs. Grounded in participatory governance and policy implementation theories, the research explores how community involvement, institutional capacity, and inclusiveness contribute to successful local development outcomes. Using a quantitative research design, data were collected from local government officials, community representatives, and program participants to assess the relationships among public participation, accountability, transparency, and policy performance. The results reveal that meaningful community participation significantly enhances implementation effectiveness by improving coordination, strengthening trust, and aligning development initiatives with local needs. Furthermore, institutional capacity and communication quality were found to moderate the impact of participation on implementation outcomes, emphasizing that participatory mechanisms are most effective when supported by capable institutions and transparent governance systems. However, the study also identifies persistent barriers such as elite capture and limited local empowerment, which can reduce participation’s transformative potential. These findings highlight the importance of embedding participatory practices within local governance frameworks to achieve more sustainable, inclusive, and community-centered development. The study contributes to both academic discourse and practical policymaking by offering evidence-based recommendations for enhancing the design and implementation of participatory local development programs.

Abstract

Anemia remains a major nutritional problem in developing countries, including Indonesia, largely due to adolescents’ limited nutritional knowledge. This study evaluated the effectiveness of the educational video “I’m Healthy and Free of Anemia” in improving adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes toward anemia. Using a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design, 140 students from SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Padang and SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Palembang were selected purposively. Data were collected through validated questionnaires and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results showed significant improvements in knowledge and attitudes after the intervention (p-value<0,001), with mean knowledge scores increasing from 70,11 to 81,14 and attitude scores from 76,14 to 82,73. The video was effective due to its engaging visual and audio elements, as well as practical examples. This study highlights the value of interactive educational media in enhancing adolescents’ awareness and understanding of anemia.
