Abstract

Stunting in early childhood is a complex health problem with broad impacts, not only on physical growth but also on motor and language development, which are essential for children's future success. This review was conducted to identify and synthesize the latest scientific evidence on the effectiveness of various educational approaches in stimulating motor and language development in children with stunting. A systematic literature search was carried out through nine scientific databases, covering publications from 2014 to 2024. Articles that met the inclusion criteria were assessed for quality using the JBI appraisal tool and analyzed thematically. A total of 23 primary articles were analyzed, showing that family- and community-based educational interventions—such as home visits, educational games, simple stimulation media, and the Montessori approach—had a positive impact on improving fine motor, gross motor, and both expressive and receptive language skills in stunted children. Approaches that involved active parental participation and were tailored to the local context proved to be more effective than general or non-targeted methods. This review emphasizes the need to strengthen education-based early stimulation programs in Indonesia’s national strategy for addressing stunting.

Abstract

Hospitalization is often a stressful experience for preschool children, frequently leading to elevated anxiety due to separation from caregivers, unfamiliar medical environments, and invasive procedures. Storytelling, as a developmentally appropriate and therapeutic communication method, offers a promising approach for pediatric nurses to reduce emotional distress in young patients. This study aimed to develop a storytelling module as a pediatric nursing intervention to reduce hospitalization anxiety in preschool-aged children. A Research and Development (R&D) approach was employed using the Borg and Gall model. The study was conducted from April to June 2024 at Siti Khadijah Islamic Hospital, Palembang. The development process involved a literature review, expert validation by pediatric nurses, child psychologists, and linguists, module drafting, and limited field testing. The participants included 20 hospitalized children aged 3–6 years and five pediatric nurses. Anxiety levels were measured using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAI-C) before and after the intervention, with descriptive analysis used to assess outcomes. The finalized module comprised six storytelling themes, colorful visual aids, and structured nursing guidelines designed to address common sources of hospitalization anxiety in preschoolers. Expert validation yielded a high Content Validity Index (CVI = 0.91), and field testing demonstrated a clear reduction in children’s anxiety scores post-intervention. The storytelling module is a culturally relevant, feasible, and effective pediatric nursing tool to reduce hospitalization anxiety in preschool children.

Abstract

Anxiety and depression are common psychological problems experienced by patients with chronic illnesses and may affect the recovery process. Islamic spiritual care is considered a complementary approach that can help enhance calmness and strengthen patients’ coping abilities. This community service program aimed to empower nurses through the implementation of the ARIS Module (Anxiety and Depression Reduction Through Islamic Spiritual Care) to improve their competence in providing spiritual care and to contribute to better psychological outcomes among patients. The program was conducted at Siti Khadijah Islamic Hospital Palembang from August to September 2025 and involved 35 nurses. The activities included intensive training, demonstrations, role play, and supervised clinical practice, covering therapeutic communication, guided dzikr and prayer, selected Qur’anic verses, and spiritual reflection based on the ARIS Module. Evaluation was carried out through pre–post tests and monitoring of patients’ psychological responses. The program showed improvements in nurses’ knowledge and skills in delivering more structured, empathetic, and needs-based spiritual care. The implementation of the ARIS Module also contributed to reduced anxiety and depression among patients, reflected in greater calmness, relaxation, and readiness to face illness. This program provided a positive contribution to strengthening holistic nursing care in the hospital.

Abstract

Anxiety and depression are common psychological problems experienced by patients with chronic illnesses, potentially worsening their clinical condition and quality of life. Nursing interventions that integrate an Islamic spiritual approach are considered to have the potential to enhance psychological calmness when coping with long-term disease. This study aimed to develop and assess the effectiveness of the ARIS Module (Anxiety and Depression Reduction through Islamic Spiritual Care) as a nursing intervention guideline to address anxiety and depression among patients with chronic illnesses. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) design using the ADDIE model, which includes needs analysis, design, content development, implementation in nursing practice, and evaluation. Effectiveness testing was conducted through a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest design involving 140 chronic illness patients who received care from January 2025 to July 2025 at Siti Khadijah Islamic Hospital Palembang. The Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) and the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) were used as measurement instruments. The findings revealed that the implementation of the ARIS Module significantly reduced anxiety and depression levels (p < 0.05) compared to pre-intervention scores. Patients also reported improved spiritual comfort and emotional support from nurses. This module was considered feasible, practical, and relevant for use in nursing practice focused on holistic care. The study recommends broader implementation of the module across various nursing services and the development of training programs to enhance nurses’ competencies in spiritual care.

Abstract

Husband involvement is a critical determinant of Antenatal Care (ANC) compliance. In Padang Pariaman Regency, this involvement is uniquely shaped by the matrilineal culture through the concept of Urang Sumando, in which husbands are positioned as “guests” within the wife’s family, often limiting their authority in maternal health decision-making. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between husbands’ knowledge and attitudes and maternal ANC compliance within this specific cultural context. A cross-sectional study was conducted between May and August 2025 involving 100 pairs of pregnant women and their husbands. Husbands’ knowledge and attitudes were assessed using validated questionnaires, while ANC compliance was verified through an audit of the Maternal and Child Health Book. Data were analyzed using chi-square tests and logistic regression. The results showed that ANC compliance reached 71%, with 58% of husbands demonstrating good knowledge and 62% showing positive attitudes toward ANC. Good knowledge was significantly associated with ANC compliance (OR = 3.21; 95% CI 1.30–7.93; p = 0.009), as was a positive attitude (OR = 2.74; 95% CI 1.16–6.49; p = 0.019). After controlling for age, education, and living status with in-laws, both knowledge (aOR = 2.70; 95% CI 1.12–6.52; p = 0.027) and attitude (aOR = 2.33; 95% CI 1.03–5.25; p = 0.042) remained significant predictors of compliance. Living with in-laws tended to reduce the likelihood of ANC compliance, although this association was not statistically significant (aOR = 0.52; 95% CI 0.24–1.13; p = 0.097). In conclusion, husbands’ knowledge and attitudes play a significant role in improving ANC compliance. Educational interventions grounded in local wisdom and involving both husbands and extended family members are strongly recommended.
