Abstract

Academic writing is a means of reporting research findings to the public, allowing them to be known, replicated, or applied. However, academic writing differs significantly from non-academic writing. It is inherently objective, grounded in research facts, and supported by citations from existing studies to substantiate or refute arguments. In contrast, non-academic writing is subjective and does not require the use of factual evidence in every analysis. This fundamental difference poses a challenge for academic writing, particularly for novice researchers.

Abstract

Research is an integral part of healthcare professionals' activities, including nursing. Clinical processes such as anamnesis, physical examinations, and laboratory data collection are routine procedures and fundamental mechanisms for gathering evidence-based data to support clinical decision-making. These data are subsequently analyzed to assess patient progress—whether improving, stagnating, or deteriorating. Hospitals and healthcare facilities use continuous data collection in everyday clinical practice. However, a critical question arises: To what extent does this data effectively address patient issues? Is data collection genuinely aimed at improving patient care, or is it primarily conducted to fulfill educational requirements for students and research objectives for academics?

Abstract

The high incidence of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) causes increased complications associated with DM. One is the Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DFU). Delayed healing in DFU is usually caused by infection. The infection of DFU contains many gram negative (-) and gram positive (+) bacteria, so it is important. To identify the type of bacteria present on the DFU based on the cause. This was an experimental cross sectional study conducted at ETN Center, Griya Afiat, Avaro, Isam Cahaya, RSUP DR. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Makassar and Microbiology Laboratory Hospital Unhas Makassar. There were 29 respondents who met the inclusion criteria. Specimens of wound fluid were taken by swabbing technique. The specimen was inoculated on NA (Nutrient Agar) and MCA (MacConcey Agar) then incubated at 37 ° C for ± 18-24 hours to see bacterial morphology. If a gram negative bacteria (-) is tested biochemically by bacteria is grown on TSI (Tripple Sugar Iron), SIM (Indole Motility Sulfide), citrate urea, kovacks. As for gram positive bacteria (+) in MSA medium (Manitol Salt Agar), catalase (H2O2), incubated for 18-24 hours at 37 ° C, record the results of identification and match the bacterial identification table based on gram properties. Based on morphological test, 29,5% gram negative (-) and Gram positive (+) bacteria were 8.8% in traumatic LKD, with the dominant gram negative (-) species being proteus vulgaris (8.8%) and staphylococcus aureus 8.8%) in the gram bacteria (+). While for non trauma LKD found gram negative bacteria (-) as much as 58.8% and gram positive bacteria (+) 2.9% with the dominant type of bacteria are S.Aureus (2.9%) and P. Mirabilis (17.6%) for gram negative bacteria (-). Identification of bacteria in DFU caused by trauma and non trauma is dominant gram negative bacteria (-). Further research is expected to identify the type of bacteria based on the Wagner and sensitivity of the bacteria.

Abstract

Prevalence of diabetic increased causes many comorbidities that appear like diabetic foot ulcers. Diabetic foot ulcers are a common complication of DM that has shown an increasing trend over the past decade. Diabetic foot ulcers is an open wound on the skin surface due to complications that can develop into infection. The ulcer becomes the entrance gate of bacteria that includes Gram positive bacteria and Gram negative aerobs that spread rapidly and cause tissue damage. The purpose of this study was to identify the type of bacteria in diabetic foot ulcers based on long-standing diabetic foot ulcers. This study was a descriptive observational study, with cross sectional design study conducted by taking swab samples from diabetic foot ulcers. Research respondents were 20 patients with diabetic foot ulcers who did wound care at wound clinic and RSUP Dr Wahidin Sudirohuosodo Makassar. This research is done by Accidental Sampling, the data is analyzed descriptively. Gram stain examination results showed that the identification of bacterial species based on long periods suffered from diabetic foot ulcers with onset <6 months, the dominant bacterial colony was Proteus Mirabilis, 5 respondents (50.0%). And identification of bacterial type based on long suffered diabetic foot injury with onset >6 months, showed colony bacterium that was dominant found was Staphylococcus aureus that is 3 respondent (30.0%). Based on the results of the study of bacterial identification in wounded diabetic foot ulcer with onset <6 months dominated by gram-negative bacteria and identification of bacteria in wounded diabetic foot injuries with onset> 6 months dominated by gram-positive bacteria. Suggestions for further research are identification of bacterial types based on identification of antibiotic therapy used by respondents.

Abstract

The concepts of nurse and nursing are inherently interwoven, representing distinct yet inseparable dimensions that are unified by the universal principle of caring. Caring for humanity must be delivered through a holistic approach, wherein therapeutic communication emerges as a defining characteristic of nursing practice. This form of communication serves not only as a therapeutic intervention in fostering interpersonal relationships with patients but also as a vital bridge in collaboration with other healthcare professionals. Within this framework, nurses are ethically and professionally obligated to provide care that is both evidence-based and holistic, while upholding the principles of responsibility and accountability in every intervention they deliver.

Abstract

Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DFU) is one of the complications that cause big problems in diabetics. One of the management of DFU management is by utilizing hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) which is an additional therapy that has been proven to be used in the treatment of DFU. However, the results of its benefits and use are still being debated, so the purpose of this review is to evaluate the effectiveness of HBOT on healing diabetic foot wounds. The method of this research is to use a literature review design. By using three international databases, namely PubMed, Science Direct, and Ebscohost, six articles were included. The results of the review explained that from six articles conducted by the literature review, it was reported that hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) can accelerate the healing process of diabetic foot wounds (DFU), by reducing wound size, lowering levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) and white blood cells (WBC)), induces angiogenesis of EGF, VEGF, PDGF, FGF-2 and CXCL10 and changes serum interleukin 6 (IL-6) and VEGF levels to be greater. Conclusion (HBOT) is an appropriate adjunct therapy, which can provide effectiveness in the treatment of DFU by accelerating the healing of DFU and preventing further infection in DFU, so as to reduce the risk of amputation.

Abstract

Patients with a stoma tend to experience obstacles in carrying out treatment independently, which causes several problems, including embarrassment due to bag noise, gas, and odor, fear of bag leakage, and complications in the form of pain and skin excoriation around the stomal location, stomal diarrhea or constipation, and enemas. This study aims to determine the level of knowledge and skills of patients with abdominal stomas (colostomies and ileostomies) in carrying out independent stoma care and the educational methods used. This research is a literature study with a scoping review design on 4 databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, DOAJ, and Ebscho, with the keywords Self Care AND skill OR knowledge AND Colostomi OR ostomi OR ostomate OR Ileostomi, as well as filtering articles using the Mendeley application in the period 2017–2022. There were 7 articles obtained. The results of the research from the 7 articles obtained showed that patients with a new ostomi after stoma creation had a poor level of knowledge regarding self-care in the postoperative period due to the impact of changes in their physical and emotional conditions, and this increased along with treatment interventions and patient involvement in caring for their stoma. In addition, ostomi patients generally have skills in emptying and changing the stoma bag, peristomal skin care, and diet modification. In the process of gaining knowledge, ostomates need the involvement of family and health workers, as well as education that suits the ostomate's needs.
