Abstract

Qawaid (Arabic grammar) learning is often perceived as difficult and less engaging because it is commonly taught through conventional teacher-centered methods. This condition leads to low student participation, limited learning motivation, and difficulties in understanding and applying Arabic grammatical rules. Therefore, innovative instructional approaches are needed to create a more active, collaborative, and meaningful learning environment. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of cooperative learning strategies in improving students’ mastery of qawaid while fostering their social and collaborative skills. This study employed a quantitative approach using an experimental design involving Madrasah Aliyah students as research participants. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed by comparing learning conditions before and after the implementation of cooperative learning strategies. The findings reveal that cooperative learning significantly improves students’ understanding of qawaid, promotes active classroom participation, and enhances students’ motivation to learn. Furthermore, students demonstrated better collaboration and communication during the learning process. The study concludes that cooperative learning is an effective innovation in Arabic grammar instruction because it not only improves academic achievement but also develops students’ communication, teamwork, and responsibility skills. These findings contribute to the field of Arabic language education by providing practical insights for teachers seeking innovative and student-centered instructional strategies to enhance the quality of qawaid learning

Abstract

The implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum requires Arabic teaching materials that are flexible, differentiated, multimodal, and supportive of formative assessment. However, many Arabic classrooms still use printed textbooks or static digital documents, which do not optimally support listening, speaking, independent learning, and rapid feedback. This study aims to analyze the urgency of developing an electronic Arabic textbook based on the Smart Interactive Arabic Textbook model as a response to the demands of the Merdeka Curriculum. This research uses library research with content analysis of Merdeka Curriculum policy documents, Arabic Learning Outcomes, and recent literature on digital Arabic learning, differentiated instruction, multimedia learning, gamification, and digital assessment. The findings show that electronic Arabic textbooks are needed for five main purposes: learning personalization, integration of visual-audiovisual texts, strengthening istima’ and kalam skills, reducing cognitive load, and enabling real-time diagnostic assessment. This article contributes a conceptual model of the Smart Interactive Arabic Textbook as a direction for developing adaptive, interactive, data-informed, and curriculum-aligned Arabic teaching materials.

Abstract

This article examines the role-playing strategy in Arabic language learning as a response to the persistent gap between learners' knowledge of vocabulary and grammar and their ability to use Arabic orally in meaningful interaction. The study aims to clarify the concept of role playing, synthesize its theoretical foundations, formulate a practical implementation model, and identify its pedagogical implications for developing maharah al-kalam. This research uses an integrative library research design. The data consist of conceptual statements, empirical findings, and methodological recommendations drawn from books, peer-reviewed journal articles, proceedings, and relevant research reports on role playing, communicative language teaching, active learning, social constructivism, experiential learning, Arabic speaking skills, and foreign language anxiety. The data were collected through documentation, selected by relevance, credibility, and recency, and analyzed through thematic synthesis involving data reduction, data display, comparison, interpretation, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that role playing is pedagogically relevant because it integrates linguistic forms, communicative functions, social interaction, affective support, and reflective feedback. Its implementation should be gradual: starting from guided dialogues, moving to semi-open scenarios, and ending with free or problem-based performances. Practically, this strategy requires clear objectives, sufficient language input, contextual scenarios, role distribution, rehearsal, performance, observation sheets, constructive feedback, and follow-up activities. Therefore, role playing should not be treated merely as an entertaining classroom activity, but as a structured communicative strategy for building speaking confidence, contextual vocabulary mastery, and meaningful Arabic language use.

Abstract

In Senior High School, Arabic language assessments mostly focus on memorizing grammar rules (tarkib) and recalling information in reading comprehension (Qira’ah). This assessment does not improve students’ abilities to analyze complex texts, evaluate arguments, or apply grammatical knowledge in new contexts. In Eleventh Grade, the Tasawwuq chapter of the Arabic textbook includes only 21% Higher-Order Thinking Skills questions, while 79% focus on Lower-Order Thinking Skills, such as remembering and understanding. This study aims to develop an Arabic assessment focused on tarkib and qiraah skills. The ADDIE model was used in five steps: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. This study used a qualitative approach to collect data, including documantation and questionnaires. Data analysis used descriptive statistics. In the analysis stage, LOTS questions were identified more than HOTS questions. For the student needs analysis, a questionnaire was distributed to 60 respondents, resulting in an average score of 4.19. The design stage involved developing an outline and question matrix, creating HOTS-based questions, formulating a scoring system, and establishing a rubric. During the development stage, questions were constructed in accordance with HOTS criteria, incorporating eight specific HOTS indicators. Implementation was conducted at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 4 Agam in the eleventh grade. Evaluation results demonstrated that the Arabic assessment for Tarkib and Qira’ah, based on Higher Order Thinking Skills, effectively enhanced the critical thinking skills of eleventh-grade students at the state madrasah aliyah, as indicated by a significance value (2-tailed) of less than 0.05.

Abstract

The Arabic language learning using the book "Arabiya Baina Yadaik" at Dar El Iman Islamic Boarding School in Padang faces significant challenges in meeting the graduation standard of a minimum score of 85. Among the 21 first-year junior high school students, 52% did not achieve this standard. To address this issue, remedial activities were conducted to ensure all students could meet the learning targets. This research aims to improve Arabic language learning outcomes through a remedial teaching method that combines group and individual tasks. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method to detail the implementation and results of the remedial activities. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and analysis of student scores before and after the remedial activities. The findings indicate a significant improvement in students' learning outcomes following the remedial activities. The graduation rate increased from 48% to 85%, and the number of students who did not pass decreased from 11 to 3. This demonstrates that the remedial teaching method is effective in helping students achieve the graduation standard. In conclusion, combining group and individual tasks in remedial teaching can significantly enhance students' Arabic learning outcomes and overcome learning obstacles. This research contributes to developing more effective Arabic teaching strategies in Islamic boarding schools and other educational institutions.

Abstract

Evaluation of learning programs using various models can produce more accurate results. This study was conducted to explain the evaluation of Arabic language learning programs using the Ralph Tyler approach (design, implementation, and evaluation) in depth. This study is a descriptive qualitative study of curriculum texts and learning processes. To obtain data using interview techniques, observation, and document studies. The results of this study indicate that the design of Arabic language learning programs consists of three main aspects, namely program objectives, indicators, and target achievement of vocabulary that must be distributed. Program implementation includes implementation indicators, process implementation, teaching materials, learning methods, implementation of language sanctions, and additional activities. Program evaluation includes idea evaluation, design evaluation, implementation evaluation, and supporting factor evaluation. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that it is still more on the implementation aspect because the influence of culture is still very strong.

Abstract

Learning strategies are one of the key components in the teaching and learning process. Numerous studies have stated that the Teams Games Tournament (TGT), which is a part of cooperative learning strategies, has proven effective in improving student learning outcomes. However, its application in teaching Qira'ah Jahriyah (reading aloud) has not been widely explored. Therefore, researchers conducted a study at MTs.S Pondok Pesantren Al-Muttaqin Balai Belo Agam to determine the effectiveness of the TGT strategy in learning Qira'ah Jahriyah. The research employed a quantitative approach with experimental methods and utilized a Quasi-Experimental Design with purposive sampling. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of Sumbang Duo values in the Arabic speech of female mahasantriwithin a local wisdom-based Arabic language learning program at Ma'had Al-Jami'ah UIN Imam Bonjol Padang. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, using 60 Arabic utterances as the data, which were analyzed based on John Searle’s Speech Act Theory. The analysis focused on identifying speech act types, illocutionary functions, and the representation of Sumbang Duo Baleh values. The findings reveal that directive speech acts predominated in the mahasantri's utterances, with prohibitive illocutionary acts emerging as the most frequently employed form. The representation of Sumbang Duo Baleh values was classified into five cultural themes: communication ethics, personal conduct ethics, appearance ethics, social relationship ethics, and responsibility ethics. These findings demonstrate that Arabic language learning not only fosters linguistic competence but also serves as a medium for representing local cultural values through communicative practices. This study contributes to the growing body of research on local wisdom-based Arabic language learning by demonstrating how cultural values are realized through speech acts in authentic language use.

Abstract

The transformation of the Arabic language curriculum in Islamic school (madrasah) is not determined solely by regulatory changes, but also by the extent to which these regulations can be translated into coherent teaching materials. This article aims to analyze the transformation of the Arabic language curriculum in madrasah from Ministry of Religious Affairs regulations into teaching modules, with particular emphasis on the coherence of objectives, content, learning processes, evaluation, and value integration. This study employed a qualitative approach using document analysis. The data were drawn from madrasah curriculum regulations, ranging from Permenag Nomor 2 Tahun 2008 to KMA Nomor 1503 Tahun 2025, as well as the Arabic language teaching module for Grade IX at MTsN 2 Payakumbuh. The data were analyzed through reduction, categorization, coherence mapping, and theoretical synthesis. The findings indicate that the Arabic language curriculum has shifted from a structural-grammatical orientation toward learning that is more communicative, contextual, value-based, reflective, and authentic. At the teaching module level, this transformation is reflected in the strengthening of learning outcomes, life-related themes, active learning activities, differentiation, projects, authentic assessment, Rahmatan lil ‘Alamin Student Profile, and Love-Based Curriculum. However, several parts of the module still show an administrative tendency, particularly in the formulation of objectives and assessment. These findings highlight the need to develop Arabic language teaching modules that not only fulfill administrative formats, but also strengthen the relationship among learning outcomes, materials, activities, assessment, and values, so that regulations are manifested as meaningful learning experiences.
