Abstract

Religious leaders are crucial in fostering moderate attitudes and behaviours, particularly among students of Pesantren (Islamic boarding schools). However, empirical studies examining the relationship between Kyai leadership and efforts to counter radicalism still need to be explored. This study investigates the impact of religious leadership and personal branding of the Kyai on religious moderation and the prevention of radicalism in Pesantren. A quantitative approach with a correlational survey design was employed, involving 340 respondents, including administrators, students, and alums from Pesantren. Data were collected via a five-point Likert scale questionnaire administered online and analysed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results indicate that religious leadership and personal branding of the Kyai positively influence religious moderation, which plays a vital role in countering radicalism. Additionally, religious moderation was found to mediate the relationship between Kyai leadership and personal branding with radicalism prevention. The restricted sample coverage due to the online survey format is a study limitation. The findings suggest that enhancing Kyai's religious leadership and personal branding can be a valuable strategy for combating Pesantren's radicalism.

Abstract

This study explored the strategic management practices adopted by Kyai in Islamic boarding schools along the West Kalimantan-Malaysia border, focusing on overcoming challenges posed by geographical isolation and limited resources. Employing a qualitative case study methodology, interviews were conducted with key stakeholders, including Kyai, Ustadz, and Madrasah Heads, to gather insights into their strategic management approaches. The findings indicated that Kyai plays a pivotal role in institutional growth through systematic strategic planning, which includes conducting SWOT analyses, developing strategic documents, and ensuring structured implementation. The study highlighted how effective leadership and strategic planning are crucial in driving institutional transformation and sustainability in resource-constrained settings, demonstrating the dynamic adaptation of traditional educational models to modern educational demands. The implications of this research suggest that adapting traditional educational frameworks to contemporary management practices enhances institutional capabilities to navigate modern educational and socio-economic challenges, providing a model for similar educational institutions in resource-limited settings.

Abstract

The Strait of Malacca is one of the world's most critical maritime routes, serving as a key conduit between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. However, this strategic corridor faces increasing threats from extreme weather events such as tropical storms, heavy rainfall, and high waves driven by climate change. These conditions severely limit the effectiveness of traditional maritime surveillance systems that rely heavily on radar and satellite technologies, which often fail under adverse weather. This study proposes the concept of a Resilient Surveillance Architecture (RSA) an adaptive monitoring system that integrates advanced radar, high-resolution satellite sensors, and drones equipped with infrared and miniaturized radar technology. RSA enhances real-time detection and monitoring accuracy, even under extreme weather conditions. Beyond technology, the study emphasizes the importance of climate-adaptive defense policies and international cooperation among littoral states such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore to strengthen the resilience of maritime surveillance systems. RSA is presented as a strategic solution to ensure navigational safety, bolster regional maritime security, and maintain the continuity of global trade in increasingly climate-vulnerable environments

Abstract

This study analyzes the maritime defense diplomacy strategy with the cultural approach of the Gunung Padang Site in dealing with problems in the North Natuna Sea. The cultural approach was chosen as the basis for the strategy to assert Indonesia's sovereignty over its maritime territory which is threatened by claims from other countries. With a focus on the Gunung Padang Site as a symbol of Indonesia's rich cultural heritage, this study explores the potential for cultural diplomacy in strengthening Indonesia's claim to the North Natuna Sea. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with a literature study approach, collecting data from primary and secondary sources related to history, culture, and maritime diplomacy. The results of the analysis show that the integration of culture in maritime defense diplomacy provides a stronger and more convincing dimension in voicing Indonesia's national interests. The recommendations produced include strengthening cultural diplomacy, developing communication infrastructure and diplomatic capabilities, more intensive international collaboration, and increasing research and analysis on the relationship between culture and maritime interests. It is hoped that the results of this study can provide a positive contribution in efforts to maintain Indonesia's maritime sovereignty and security in the North Natuna Sea.

Abstract

This study analyzes Xi Jinping's maritime policy in the South China Sea with a focus on military power, economic diplomacy, and international law. Xi Jinping uses a militarization strategy through the construction of artificial islands and military infrastructure to strengthen China's territorial claims. In addition, the Belt and Road initiative expands maritime influence through economic cooperation, creating strategic dependencies. This study uses a literature review to compare Xi's maritime policy with previous approaches, and examines its impact on regional tensions, especially with ASEAN countries that have similar claims.

Abstract

This article analyzes the ideological differences between South Korea and North Korea and their impact on war, especially the Korean War (1950-1953). South Korea adheres to the ideology of liberal democracy and capitalism, while North Korea practices the ideology of Juche, socialism and autonomy. These differences have deepened conflict on the Korean Peninsula, reaching its peak in the Korean War. The impact is felt to this day with military tensions in the DMZ. Despite this, reconciliation efforts have been made, offering hope for peace in the region. This research was conducted descriptively using a literature study which was then analyzed to identify ideological differences between South Korea and North Korea and their impact on the war.
