Abstract

Mathematics instruction in Indonesian elementary schools often relies on conventional, text-heavy worksheets that lack interactivity and contextual relevance. These limitations hinder students’ engagement, problem-solving development, and alignment with 21st-century competencies and Profil Pelajar Pancasila (P3). This study aims to identify the needs of teachers and students for a STEM-based, interactive E-Worksheet using Heyzine integrated with Problem-Based Learning (PBL). An exploratory sequential mixed-methods design was employed as the initial phase of a broader design-based research cycle. Quantitative data were collected from 22 fifth-grade teachers and 110 students across 11 public elementary schools in Bengkulu City through validated questionnaires. Qualitative insights were obtained from semi-structured interviews with five teachers. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and thematic coding. Findings reveal that less than half of students (47.27%) found existing worksheets clear and engaging. Teachers rated the current modules at 40–45% across core indicators, citing weak integration of STEM-PBL principles, low interactivity, and insufficient alignment with P3 values. Both students and teachers emphasized the need for multimedia-rich, contextually relevant materials that support inquiry and collaboration. The study highlights a significant gap between curricular goals and actual classroom practices. It underscores the urgency of developing interactive, multimodal digital worksheets using platforms like Heyzine to enhance student engagement, problem-solving skills, and teacher readiness for digital pedagogy.

Abstract

Mathematical literacy is an important ability for students in Indonesia to face the implementation of minimum competency assessment and learning in the 21st century. This study aims to describe students' mathematical literacy skills in solving problems on pattern material in the Bengkulu local context. This study used a descriptive qualitative design. The research subjects were 30 students grade VIII from five schools in Bengkulu City. Subject selection through purposive sampling technique based on the level of intelligence with the number of each school is six students. Data were collected through interviews and mathematical literacy test using description questions that have been validated and tested. The data analysis consists of data reduction, data presentation, and concluding. The findings of this study are that students with low to moderate knowledge tend to have literacy skills at level 2. In contrast, students in the high knowledge group have literacy skills at level 3. Many students have used mathematical arguments to solve literacy problems but did not use concepts correctly.Students have not used the model structurally at the modeling stage, which resulted in errors in problem-solving and representation. Based on this, teachers need to emphasize the concept of material and mathematical modeling in learning.

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia’s low numeracy performance in international assessments highlights the need for more effective and engaging instructional strategies. This study analyzed the influence of the Quizizz application on supporting the numeracy ability of junior high school students in Bengkulu City. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 70 students through a Likert-scale questionnaire measuring ten indicators of Quizizz utilization. Multiple linear regression analysis using SPSS 25 revealed that the model was statistically significant (F = 3.303; p = 0.002), with the independent variables collectively explaining 36.3% of the variance in numeracy skills (Adjusted R² = 0.253). Two indicators—conceptual understanding (x1) and critical–creative thinking (x5)—significantly affected numeracy ability, whereas other indicators showed no partial influence. The model met classical assumption requirements, including linearity and homoscedasticity. These findings confirm that Quizizz is an effective digital learning tool that enhances students’ numeracy through interactive and motivating learning experiences.

Abstract

Purpose - Proportional reasoning is a fundamental component of mathematical thinking and plays an important role in students’ understanding of geometry. However, empirical evidence remains limited on how students’ proportional reasoning develops qualitatively across different levels of geometric thinking. This study aims to explore students’ proportional reasoning in solving geometry problems through the lens of Van Hiele’s theory. Methodology - This study employed a qualitative descriptive design with undergraduate students. Data were collected from written responses to geometry tasks involving proportional relationships. The analysis used an integrated framework combining Van Hiele levels of geometric thinking and indicators of proportional reasoning, including multiplicative relationships, coordination of quantities, ratios, and logical justification. Findings - The findings show a progressive development of proportional reasoning across Van Hiele levels, from perceptual and additive reasoning to coordinated multiplicative reasoning and formal proportional justification. However, persistent difficulties, such as additive bias and fixed-number reasoning, were observed across levels, indicating ongoing challenges in developing consistent proportional reasoning. Novelty - This study conceptualises proportional reasoning as a developmental cognitive process shaped by levels of geometric thinking through an integrated analytical framework. Significance - The findings are useful for educators, curriculum developers, and researchers in designing instruction that supports students’ proportional reasoning through level-appropriate, justification-focused activities.
