Abstract

Philosophy is a field of science that invites people to think deeply to seek the truth. One of the sciences that is often applied in our daily life is mathematics. The philosophy of humanistic psychology put forward by humanist philosophers includes views on human rights, views on human freedom and autonomy, self-concept, and individual self and self-actualization. Mathematics is the fruit of thoughts or ideas generated by humans. This paper is the result of a study. This paper discusses the development of the philosophy of humanism which is applied to mathematics learning.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model on students' mathematical problem-solving abilities in Statistics material for grade VIII. The method used is Quasi Experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample consisted of two classes, namely the experimental class consisting of 31 students who were treated with the PBL model and the control class consisting of 28 students who were taught with the conventional model. The research instrument was a mathematical problem-solving test in the form of descriptions that had been tested for validity and reliability. The results showed that the N-Gain value in the experimental class was 0.73 (high category), while in the control class it was 0.32 (medium category). The average posttest score of students in the experimental class was also higher than that of the control class. Hypothesis testing using the t-test produced a t-value of 13.858 > t-table = 2.8 with sig. = 0.000 < 0.05, which means there is a significant influence of the PBL model on students' mathematical problem-solving abilities. Thus, the application of PBL can be used as an effective alternative in mathematics learning to improve students' problem-solving abilities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students’ mathematical communication skills and problem-solving abilities on the topic of Systems of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SPLDV) in Grade VIII of SMP Swasta HKBP Sidorame in the Academic Year 2025/2026. The background of this research is the low level of students’ skills in communicating mathematical ideas and in solving problems related to real-life situations. This research is a descriptive qualitative study with 14 eighth-grade students as the subjects. The instruments used consisted of an essay test on mathematical communication skills, a problem-solving test, and interviews. The data were analyzed through validity testing, reliability testing, difficulty level, and discriminating power, and then presented descriptively based on the established indicators. The results of the study indicate that students’ mathematical communication skills fall into the medium category, with 14.29% of students in the high category, 57.14% in the medium category, and 28.57% in the low category. In terms of problem-solving skills, 21.43% of students were in the high category, 64.29% in the medium category, and 14.28% in the low category. Students were relatively able to express mathematical ideas in both visual and written forms and to develop a solution plan, but they still experienced difficulties in interpreting ideas and reviewing their answers. The study concludes that students’ mathematical communication and problem-solving skills are in the medium category, thus more varied learning strategies are needed to improve these two abilities.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of mathematical problem-solving skills among students at the Jambi Medan Private Vocational High School, which is attributed to the use of conventional teaching methods that do not sufficiently encourage active engagement and deep understanding. The objective of this study is to determine the influence and magnitude of the impact of the Deep Learning approach on the mathematical problem-solving skills of 11th-grade students in matrix material. The research method used is a Quasi-Experiment with a Post-test Only Control Group Design. The research population includes all 11th-grade students, with a sample selected through Cluster Random Sampling consisting of class XI MPLB 2 as the experimental class and XI MPLB 1 as the control class. Data analysis results showed that the average post-test score of the experimental class (72.62) was higher than that of the control class (46.40). Based on the t-test, a significance value of 0.000 0.05 was obtained, indicating a significant effect. The Effect Size test using Cohen’s D yielded a value of 3.29, which falls under the “very large” criterion. Thus, the Deep Learning approach is effective in improving students’ mathematical problem-solving skills at the Jambi Medan Private Vocational High School.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of using GeoGebra based on the Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) model in improving students’ understanding of mathematical concepts in the matrix curriculum for XI-grade students at State SMA Negeri 14 Medan T.A 2025/2026. The method used was quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design. The study population consisted of 11th-grade students, with a sample of 69 students from classes XI 4 and XI 5 selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used included an essay test, a questionnaire, and an observation sheet. The research results indicate that all five indicators of effectiveness were met: (1) the instructional structure was in the “good” category, based on evaluations by two out of three observers, who assigned scores of 86 and 87, respectively; (2) teacher communication was good, with two observers assigning a score of 34; (3) student response was good, as evidenced by 57 out of 69 students falling within the “good” frequency range; (4) student activity was good, with 62 students in the good category according to three observers; (5) learning achievement was complete without remedial instruction, with 58 students (91.3%) scoring in the 66–85% range. Thus, the use of the STAD method with GeoGebra is effective in enhancing students’ understanding of mathematical concepts.
