Abstract

Sexual violence against children remains a frequent occurrence in Indonesia; whilst the examination of cases involving children as victims is essential, it is influenced by psychological factors. This study aims to analyse the forms of legal protection for children as victim-witnesses through a psychological lens. In this study, the author will employ an empirical legal research method. Empirical research is a legal research method designed to examine the law in its practical application and to investigate how the law functions within society. The data analysis method employed in this study is descriptive analysis, which involves analysing data from the literature by explaining the results or realities in a logically structured manner. The findings of this study indicate that legal protection for children as victim-witnesses in cases of sexual violence forms part of the rights enshrined in the constitution. This protection is based on various legal provisions, such as those in the Criminal Code and Law No. 35 of 2014 on Child Protection. To reinforce this, Indonesia ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child of 1989 through Presidential Decree No. 39 of 1990 to strengthen children’s right to protection. From a psychological perspective, recovery is oriented towards fulfilling children’s rights following sexual violence. The fulfilment of victims’ rights in the handling of sexual violence cases is set out in Article 67 of the TPKS Law, which states that the rights of victims of sexual violence consist of the right to Handling, the right to Protection, and the right to Recovery.

Abstract

Plankton is an effective bioindicator for diagnosing freshwater pollution. We assessed the plankton community structure at three Sail River sites representing residential, industrial-urban, and agro-rural influences, and correlated biological indices with physicochemical parameters. Purposeful sampling and standard microscopy were used to identify and quantify taxa; Shannon diversity (H′), equitability index (E), dominance (D), trophic status, and saprobicity were obtained. In total, 106 taxa were recorded (zooplankton: 4 species in 3 higher groups; phytoplankton: 102 species in 20 classes). Phytoplankton abundance ranged from 3.0–9.1 × 10³ cells L⁻¹ across sites (mesotrophic), while zooplankton ranged from 1.9–161 × 10³ individuals L⁻¹. Phytoplankton diversity was moderate to high (H′ = 2.1–3.2) at less impacted sites and lower at residential sites; zooplankton diversity was low to moderate (H′ = 1.3–1.5). Saprobicity scores indicated β–α mesosaprobic conditions (light to moderate organic impact), consistent with elevated COD and low DO at residential sites. Cyanophyceae and Euglenophyceae were more frequent at sites with higher organic and nutrient loads, while Bacillariophyceae increased with increasing water clarity/flow. Overall, plankton metrics and chemistry indicated local organic stress rather than an “unpolluted” state. We emphasize the need for seasonal replication and more accurate quantification to reduce uncertainty in abundance estimates.

Abstract

This study was conducted to identify the secondary metabolite prile in the leaf extract of Lumnitzera racemosa, which has potential as a natural antibacterial agent. Leaf samples were collected from the mangrove area of Pecinta Alam Bahari (PAB), Dumai City, and extracted with 96% ethanol using a maceration method. Phytochemical tests were conducted qualitatively on seven groups of compounds, namely alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolics, saponins, tannins, triterpenoids, and steroids. Analysis revealed the presence of flavonoids, phenolics, and triterpenoids, while alkaloids, saponins, tannins, and steroids were not detected. The identified compounds have different antibacterial mechanisms but are effective in disrupting the structure and function of bacterial cells. These findings suggest the potential of L. racemosa leaf extract as a source of bioactive compounds for health and aquaculture applications.

Abstract

Microorganisms that live in extreme conditions in mangrove ecosystems have unique defence mechanisms that enable them to produce secondary metabolites that function as antibiotics. One of them is the wood ant (Camponotus melanus), which is commonly found in mangrove ecosystems and plays a significant role in these ecosystems. This study aims to identify bacteria associated with C. melanus based on morphological characteristics and biochemical tests, and to test their antibacterial activity against pathogenic bacteria (Aeromonas hydrophila, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus). This study was conducted from September to November 2025. The method used was a survey method. The research was conducted from September to November 2025. C. melanus samples were taken from the Marine Station mangrove forest, Dumai City, Riau Province, and analyzed at the Marine Microbiology Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine, Universitas Riau. The isolation and identification results yielded three bacterial isolates: C1 and C2, suspected to be Bacillus sp., and C3, suspected to be Citrobacter sp. The antibacterial activity test results of the three isolates produced inhibition zones. This indicates that the three isolates have the potential to serve as sources of promising antibiotic compounds for further development

Abstract

Cosmos caudatus is a herb that benefits overall health. This study aimed to determine the effect of C. caudatus leaf supplementation in feed on blood glucose levels in catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) challenged with Aeromonas hydrophila. This study was conducted from March to August 2024 at the Marine Microbiology Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Riau. The method used was an experimental design employing a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications: negative control (NC, no supplementation, no infection), positive control (PC, no supplementation, with A. hydrophila bacterial infection), supplementation with C. caudatus at doses of 10 g/kg (T1), 15 g/kg (T2), and 20 g/kg (T3) of feed, all tested against A. hydrophila. The fish fry used weighed 5.00 ± 1.00 g and were reared for 75 days in 100-L tanks integrated with an aquaponics system. The fish were fed the experimental feed for 60 days before challenge with A. hydrophila bacteria (10⁸ CFU/mL, intramuscular injection) and continued for 14 days after challenge. Blood glucose levels were measured at the beginning (day 1), day 30, pre-challenge (day 60), and post-challenge (day 75). The results showed that adding basil leaves to the feed affected blood glucose (P<0.05). The addition of C. Caudatus leaves maintained glucose homeostasis within the range of 68.33±10.59-79.67±7.77 mg/dL. These findings indicate that C. Caudatus supplementation effectively prevents hyperglycemia caused by A. hydrohila infection in striped catfish and suggest its potential as a natural immunostimulant and metabolic modulator in aquaculture

Abstract

Coastal environmental problems in Rupat District cannot be resolved solely through a top-down approach or government intervention. This study was conducted in 2025 with the intention of comprehensively analyzing the role of the community in environmental management in the coastal areas of Rupat District, particularly on Ketapang and Lancah beaches. Through a systematic research approach, this study aims to identify the forms of community roles in coastal environmental management efforts, analyze factors that influence the level of community participation, describe the various challenges faced in implementing community-based environmental management, and formulate strategies for strengthening community roles that can be implemented sustainably. The method used in this study was a survey method with a total of 31 respondents, consisting of fishermen, seaweed farmers, fish traders, community leaders, and people involved in marine tourism activities. The results of the study can be concluded that community-based coastal environmental management has enormous potential but faces complex structural challenges

Abstract

Carotenoids are natural pigments with significant potential that are widely synthesized by photosynthetic bacteria. In addition to playing a role in photosynthesis, carotenoids also function as natural antioxidants capable of inhibiting the formation of free radicals and providing protection against oxidative stress. This study aims to characterize and to identify carotenoid pigments synthesized by marine photosynthetic bacteria, to determine the types of pigments, as well as to prove their antioxidant activity. The method used in this study was experimental, conducted to test the ability of marine photosynthetic bacteria to synthesize carotenoid pigments as producers of antioxidant compounds. The results of the study indicate that isolate LD07, a photosynthetic marine bacterium, contains carotenoid pigments. UV-Vis spectrophotometer analysis revealed a maximum absorption peak at a wavelength of 490 nm, a value within the characteristic absorption region of carotenoid pigments

Abstract

Pangasianodon hypophthalmus is a stenohaline freshwater catfish that is increasingly exposed to salinity fluctuations due to tidal intrusion and the expansion of brackish water aquaculture. This study aimed to analyze the erythrocyte and leukocyte counts, as well as blood glucose levels, in P. hypophthalmus reared at different salinities. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments: 0 ppt salinity, 5 ppt salinity, 7 ppt salinity, and 9 ppt salinity, with three replicates. The hematological parameters analyzed included total erythrocytes, total leukocytes, and blood glucose. The results showed that salinity had a significant effect (p < 0.05) on total erythrocytes, total leukocytes, and blood glucose. A salinity of 5 ppt produced an optimal hematological profile, with a total erythrocyte count of 2.25 × 10⁶ cells/mm³, a total leukocyte count of 7.65 × 10⁴ cells/mm³, and blood glucose of 52.33 mg/dL. These findings indicate that a salinity of 5 ppt is the optimal salinity threshold for P. hypophthalmus aquaculture in brackish water environments and provide a physiological basis for adaptive aquaculture management amid changing environmental conditions

Abstract

Protein sel tunggal (Single Cell Protein/SCP) merupakan alternatif strategis untuk mengurangi ketergantungan terhadap tepung ikan dalam pakan udang vaname. Makalah ini mengkaji pengembangan formulasi pakan berbasis SCP yang berasal dari khamir laut, bakteri, dan mikroorganisme lainnya. Kajian dilakukan melalui studi pustaka terhadap berbagai artikel ilmiah terkini mengenai nutrisi udang, SCP, kesehatan usus, sistem imun, dan keberlanjutan akuakultur. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa SCP memiliki kandungan protein tinggi, profil asam amino yang baik, serta mengandung senyawa bioaktif seperti β-glukan yang berperan sebagai imunostimulan. Penggunaan SCP mampu meningkatkan efisiensi pakan, memperbaiki kesehatan saluran pencernaan, serta mendukung pertumbuhan udang. Namun, formulasi harus memperhatikan keseimbangan asam amino esensial, palatabilitas, dan tingkat substitusi optimal. SCP berpotensi menjadi komponen utama pakan udang masa depan yang berkelanjutan dan ekonomis.
