Abstract

Limited understanding regarding healthy relationships, religious implications, the impact of LGBTQ occurrences, psychological susceptibilities associated with LGBTQ, and inappropriate approaches towards LGBTQ individuals can heighten one's susceptibility towards developing LGBTQ tendencies or mental disorders. This initiative, referred to as IbDM, will be executed with the utilization of a social campaign approach and interactive talk shows, to cultivate positive awareness and effective strategies for addressing and preventing the rise in LGBTQ transmission. The social campaign involve distributing pamphlets and pocketbooks about LGBTQ matters across all faculties in Unand, serving as a reminder and platform for introspection in anticipation of LGBTQ transmission. Additionally, incorporating interactive and captivating talk show activities featuring knowledgeable speakers will enable the dissemination of understanding, thereby enhancing the academic community's awareness in a more profound manner. The content presented during these activities will encompass various aspects of LGBTQ, including social and religious dimensions, cultural and legal considerations, and health-related perspectives. This activity has provided an overview of the perceptions of students involved as participants regarding LGBTQ behaviour. All participants (100%) view LGBTQ as deviant behavior, the importance of the role of parents in building children's character and identity, and the large influence of the social environment as a barrier to LGBTQ. Therefore, it is important for the role of policymakers at the central and regional government levels, leaders of higher education institutions, the academic community, health practitioners, and other fields to be able to work together in enforcing strict legal regulations against LGBTQ, socializing the impact of sexual identity and orientation deviation, strengthening the role parents and social environment as deterrents to deviant sexual identity and orientation behavior.

Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases are diseases that cause high mortality and morbidity that can be prevented or reduced in risk of occurrence. However, there are still many people who do not make efforts to determine the level of risk of cardiovascular disease and do not know the efforts needed to reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease. This community service activity aimed to carry out health examination, identify risk factors and determine the risk of cardiovascular diseases in the community in Nagari Sungai Buluh Selatan, Batang Anai District, Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra. Activities are carried out using physical examination, assessing the level of disease risk and individual education about reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease methods. The instrument used to determine the level of risk is the Jakarta Cardiovascular Score. The results of this activity showed that 44.8% of the population had a moderate risk of suffering from cardiovascular diseases. It is hoped that community health centres will carry out risk level screening and education on reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases as routine and structured activities in order to increase public awareness in preventing and reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract

Adolescents are increasingly vulnerable to chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and heart disease, largely due to unhealthy lifestyles and poor dietary habits. This community service initiative aimed to improve adolescents’ knowledge and awareness regarding chronic disease prevention. The program was implemented at SMAN 9 Padang, involving 58 students, and comprised health education through lectures and individual health assessments—including measurements of weight and height, and family medical history screening. Results indicated that 34.5% of students were classified as underweight based on their body mass index (BMI), while 20.7% were overweight. Identified risk behaviors included smoking (22.3%), physical inactivity (35.5%), and a family history of hypertension (43.1%). The educational intervention led to a significant improvement in students' knowledge, with the average score increasing from 6.74 (pre-test) to 7.82 (post-test) on a 10-point scale. This school-based education and health screening initiative effectively enhanced adolescent awareness of chronic disease prevention and underscored the importance of early interventions to foster healthier lifestyles among youth.

Abstract

Background: Fatigue is a common and distressing symptom among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis, significantly impacting their daily functioning and quality of life. Despite its prevalence, the contributing factors to fatigue remain unclear and underexplored in specific populations.Purpose: This study aimed to identify factors associated with fatigue among CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in two hemodialysis centers. A total of 164 patients were recruited using convenience sampling, with sample size determined through power analysis. Data were collected using the FACIT-Fatigue Scale, a health literacy questionnaire, and an observation sheet for hemoglobin (Hb), blood pressure, and interdialytic weight gain (IDWG). Patient characteristics were also recorded. T-tests and ANOVA were used to examine differences in fatigue levels across groups, while Spearman correlation and multiple linear regression were employed to analyze associations between fatigue and clinical variables. Results: The mean fatigue score was 28.23(SD=7.46). Fatigue was significantly associated with age, education level, employment status, comorbidities, duration of hemodialysis, systolic blood pressure, HB, IDWG, and health literacy (p<0.05). Multiple linear regression identified employment status and hemoglobin levels as the strongest predictors of fatigue. Conclusion: Fatigue is a prevalent issue among CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis and is influenced by a range of demographic, clinical, and behavioral factors. Employment status and hemoglobin levels were the most significant contributors. Interventions promoting physical activity, a healthy diet, and fluid adherence, alongside routine monitoring of hemoglobin levels, may help reduce fatigue and improve quality of life in this population.

Abstract

Background: Patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis often experience anxiety. The response made by patients in facing anxiety can involve adaptive coping mechanisms or maladaptive coping mechanisms. The difference in these abilities affects the level of anxiety experienced by patients. The objective of this research is to determine the relationship between coping mechanisms and anxiety levels in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis at Dr. M Djamil Padang General Hospital. Methods: The research method is quantitative with a cross-sectional study design. The analysis used is Spearman's correlation. The sample in the study consisted of 134 respondents using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection utilized the Brief COPE Questionnaire to assess coping mechanisms and the Zung Self Rating Anxiety Scale (ZSAS) Questionnaire to assess anxiety. Results: Based on the research results, the median value of coping mechanisms is 58.00, indicating maladaptive coping mechanisms, while the median value for anxiety is 62.00, indicating a moderate level of anxiety in patients. Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between coping mechanisms and anxiety in patients undergoing hemodialysis, with an average correlation strength and a negative direction (p-value = 0.000 and r = -0.506), meaning that the lower the coping mechanisms, the higher the anxiety experienced by hemodialysis patients. Conclusion: Promotive and preventive efforts are needed to address anxiety in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Healthcare professionals can contribute to this by conducting health education activities on anxiety management and coping mechanisms. Keywords: Anxiety, Coping Mechanisms, Hemodialysis

The education of pre-catheterization was given for 30 minutes and carried out 1 day before the patients undergoing the procedure. Knowledge of catheterization was measured using a pre-cardiac catheterization knowledge questionnaire. Data were analyzed using paired t-test. Results: The results showed that there was an effect of pre-catheterization education on the knowledge of patients who undergoing cardiac catheterization (p<0.001).
