Abstract

ESP means teaching of English for vocational or professional purposes. ESP concentrates on giving students the language skills required for efficient communication in specialized fields. This literature review investigates the major instructional challenges faced by educators and learners in English for Specific Purposes (ESP), particularly those related to content knowledge gaps, lack of authentic materials, curriculum alignment, and technological limitations in specialized academic and vocational settings. This review identifies five major challenges: (1) a gap in subject-matter knowledge among ESP instructors, (2) a lack of authentic, field-specific learning materials, (3) learners’ struggles with technical language and genre-specific discourse, (4) inadequate needs analysis and curriculum alignment, and (5) technological limitations that hinder digital integration. The findings suggest that many ESP programs fall short due to a lack of institutional support, insufficient teacher training, and weak collaboration between language educators and content experts. To address these challenges, the review recommends interdisciplinary cooperation, the development of contextually relevant resources, continuous needs assessment, and strategic use of educational technology. These steps are essential for improving the relevance and effectiveness of ESP instruction in diverse educational and professional settings.

Abstract

The reinvention of Mite Putri Mayang as a form of development of Dayak Maanyan oral literature in East Barito Regency is a form of innovation to revive the meaning of each story in it through the form of a short story. This research aims to create the Putri Mayang myth as a form of developing Dayak Maanyan folklore in East Barito Regency through short story writing. The research method used is the Participatory Planning and Research (PPR) research method, data analysis is carried out in a qualitative descriptive manner, so that the presentation only takes the form of an explanation in the form of words. Data collection was carried out by determining the research object, the material object was the oral literature myth of Putri Mayang, while the formal object was Ruth Finnegan's oral literature theory. Search for data in two ways, namely literature and field. The results of research regarding the Putri Mayang myth of the Dayak Maanyan tribe in East Barito Regency, it can be concluded that this story reflects local leadership without highlighting the superiority of the Banjaran or the inferiority of the Kedayakan. Putri Mayang Sari's leadership focuses on people's welfare, food security, and the implementation of the traditional Dayak Maanyan government system. This mythical story also contains religiosity, social, political and economic values in ritual practices, inter-religious tolerance, an inclusive government system, and an emphasis on food security in the Maanyan Dayak community. The process of recreating the short story Putri Mayang shows creative efforts in reinterpreting the myth. Even though there are variations in interpretation, some short stories are still tied to the setting and characters of the original myth. For example, "Parang Maya" carries regional values while giving a contemporary touch. The creation of short stories is a refreshing form of creativity in the cultural heritage of the Dayak Maanyan people.

Abstract

The Dayak Maanyan Fable is an important part of their oral literature, different from the fables in other regions in Indonesia. This fable story has unique characteristics because it involves local animals. This study aims to interpret character values in five Dayak Maanyan Fable stories using descriptive qualitative methods and gadamer hermeneutics approaches. The stages involve interpretation, interpretive text, historical text, prejudice, data analysis, and prejudice. Through the Gadamer hermeneutics approach, Dayak Maanyan Fables from East Barito Regency revealed a number of significant character values. In the "Nalau Baya Wurung Sariak Fable," we see the clarity of moral and ethical values. This includes the desire to steal or cheat, honesty, self -control, forgiveness, mistakes, loyalty, acceptance, and power of music and singing as a means of transformation. In "Madituen, Rare'eh Baya Parang," we find lessons about greed, impatience, cooperation, fear, and responsibility for our actions. The "Indre Baya Wurung Angkaraei" fable discusses the values of honesty, arrogance, consequences of actions, forgiveness, and curses as natural punishment. "Manu Jumpun Baya Wu'ah" teaches about mutual respect, respecting the diversity of life, and the importance of friendship. Finally, in "Weruk Baya Warik," the value of cooperation, repentance, justice, quality friendship, and appreciation for the environment is highly emphasized. These fables reveal the depth of the Dayak Maanyan culture and philosophy and provide valuable moral lessons.
