Abstract

Rangsang Island is described as a peat island located on the east coast of Riau Province. Due to the high conversion of peatlands, the peat of Rangsang Island is degraded and continuously emits emissions. Efforts to restore degraded peatlands are implementing good water management. In assessing the condition of the peatland water system, this study will analyze the water balance in the Peat Hydrological Unit (PHU) of Rangsang Island to determine the condition and quantity of water contained in the peatland. The model used in peatland water balance modeling is the Thornthwaite & Mather Water Balance (TMWB model). The analysis and discussion will examine the condition of the peatland water balance in the Rangsang Island PHU which is calculated using the land water balance method. From the results of this study, the condition of the water balance of the peatlands in Sub PHU 3, Rangsang Island, is dominantly experiencing deficit months. The deficit months occurred in January, February, March, May, July, August, October and December. The total water deficit is -104.20 M3. While the wet months occur in April, June, September and November. The total surplus of water is 26.15 million m3. The total water deficit for a year when compared to the total surplus of water for a year there is still a big enough difference so that a good and sustainable water-compliant system is needed on peatland Sub PHU 3 Rangsang Island, especially in the Rangsang Island KHG in general in the future. Keywords: Deficit, Peat Hydrological Unit, Peat land, Surplus, Thornthwaite & Mather Water Balance

Abstract

Abstract

Data availability for modeling usually become a problem because of incompleteness and imprecision data. The development of knowledge and the advancement of technology progress encourage the development of hydrological modeling by using remote sensing data. This research conducted rainfall-runoff modeling using remote sensing data in Rokan watershed, Riau Province. To utilize remote sensing data, a special software namely Integrated Flood Analysis System (IFAS) is used in this research. IFAS is a remote sensing program that was developed by a research institution of the Japanese public works called the International Centre for Water Hazard and Risk Management (ICHARM). IFAS was used to model the rainfall-runoff in Rokan watershed with four types of different periods simulation and calibration. Rainfal-runoff period from 1 January 2003 until 31 December 2006, 1 January 2004 until 31 December 2006, 1 January 2005 until 31 December 2006 and 1 January 2006 until 31 December 2006 was used for this modeling and then was validated with period data of 2004 and 2005. The results become optimal after the calibration process period of two years and one year data. The two years period have the correlation (R) value 0,627, volume error (VE) 1,007%, and the coefficient of efficiency (CE) 0,615 and the one year period the correlation (R) value 0,663, volume error (VE) 3,30%, and the coefficient of efficiency (CE) 0,759.  Keywords: rainfall-runoff modeling, satellite data, IFAS, calibration, validation

Abstract

In 2019 there were 9 (nine) managers of drinking water from Sikumbang Springs. The management of the Sikumbang Spring water supply business is still carried out individually and traditionally means that the management carried out by the Sikumbang Spring entrepreneur is only limited to exploitation. Management does not include environmental preservation. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential and determine the sustainable management strategy of Sikumbang Springs in Pulau Sarak Village, Kampar District, Kampar Regency. The benefit gained from this research is the balance between environmental, economic and social aspects in managing Sikumbang Spring. and the community as water users / entrepreneurs get information on the potential of Sikumbang Springs in Pulau Sarak Village. Analysis of the projected population of each village in the Kampar subdistrict above can be calculated the number of residents who use clean water. The more accurate results of the largest population is at the end of the planned year, namely in 2029 with a total population of 50.732 people (10-year projection). The potential of Sikumbang Spring based on the value of its debit from March to December 2020 is 247.127.040 liters. The need for clean water for household needs (drinking and cooking water) in Kampar sub-district is 6,3 ((liters / day) / soul), so that the community's water demand in Kampar sub-district in 2019 is 310.697 liters / day. The average daily debit of Sikumbang Springs is 808.272 liters / day. The calculation of the average daily debit of Sikumbang Spring shows that the debit value of Sikumbang Spring exceeds the value of its needs. Therefore, Sikumbang Springs in the study area can be used as an alternative in meeting the water needs of the local community and communities outside Pulau Sarak Village. Based on the results of the SWOT analysis of the management of the Sikumbang Spring, the strategy that can be applied is an aggressive (development) strategy that is maximizing strengths and taking advantage of available opportunities, so as to minimize weaknesses and avoid threats. Sikumbang Spring management must optimize the main function of Sikumbang Spring as a source of clean water in meeting household water needs and improving its marketing system. The role of the community in maintaining and preserving the source of the Sikumbang Spring also needs to be enhanced.

Abstract

Environmental change due to development processes, such as land clearing and construction of settlements and industries, are belived to cause disruotion of hydrologic conditions, increases level flow and flood peak flow. It happens because of the water absorption capacity at the land surface reduced. The menthod used is frequency analysis to determine the expected local rainfall on various repeated periods and the rain intensity, which are needed for flood flow calculations. The space utilization on economic sector in Sudirman Kota Dumai Rd., are likely to be increased from 2001, 2011, ro 2015. The result of the flood flow (Qp) analysis on 2015 shows tendency to increase on the following years (Qexisting kurang dari Qprediction). Where as the result of the flood flow (Qp) with catchment well is Qeksisting lebih dari Qscenario.

Abstract

Rangsang Island is home to more than 48,000 residents. Climate change has been a critical issue to the Island and threatened the existence of the inhabitants. This study is proposed to identify the zone of the coastal area of Rangsang Island which is vulnerable to climate change. By mapping coastal vulnerability index (CVI) of the island, it is expected to be a reference of local government in planning their spatial management. The method of this study was by a direct survey for collecting data of geomorphology, beach elevation, sea level rise, tidal fluctuation, significant wave height, and changes in the coastline. To determine CVI, each parameter is divided into 5 categories and given a value level: 1 for very not vulnerable, 2 for not vulnerable, 3 for moderate, 4 for vulnerable, and 5 for very vulnerable. The results show that most villages on the island are classified as highly vulnerable to climate change, namely 9 villages. Even 2 villages are threatened very high risk because the village has CVI more than 12.5. Only 6 villages whose territory has moderate vulnerability index. Vulnerability level of coastal Rangsang Island is strongly influenced by geomorphological variable and coastal elevation. In addition, the variable coastline changes and sea level rise also contributed to the vulnerability index of the Island.

Abstract

Peatlands rewetting for hydrological restoration plays an important role in fire prevention and peatland restoration of degraded peatland. One of the methods for the rewetting is canal blocking. The impact of canal blocking for peatland rewetting is further analyzed in this research. This study focused in Pulau Tebing Tinggi peatland hydrological unit (PHU), which is located in Kepulauan Meranti Regency, Riau Province. To analysis the rewetting impact, 15 dipwells were installed with the distance of 1 m, 51 m, 101 m, 201 and 301 m from the canal for each transect of the three transects. A transect was set in the downstream and two transects were set in the upstream of canal block. The ground water level (GWL) in the 15 dipwells was recorded using water-loggers for one year. This research found that canal blocking has a good effect on maintaining groundwater levels and keeping peatlands in always wet or humid conditions up to a distance of 201 m perpendicular to the canal if the rise in water level in the canal due to canal blocking is more than 0.6 m. It is able to maintain the ground water depth in peatlands around 0.4 m, where the peatlands become low risk to the fire, emission rates and subsidence.

Abstract

Skenario pemodelan dibagi dua yaitu (1) simulasi perubahan garis pantai tanpa kalibrasi (2) simulasi perubahan garis pantai setelah dilakukan kalibrasi.
