Abstract

The purpose of this study is to validate a theoretically based blended assessment model with SDL and to show empirical validation of it. The study materials developed include a Model Book, a Students’ Book, and a Lecturer’s Book modeled on an authentic blended assessment framework for Basic Reading. A mixed-methods approach was used, and the validation process involved six expert validators. one-on-one evaluations were conducted with ten students and one lecturer who were purposively selected to be part of the study. The data were collected from validation sheets as well as semi-structured interviews. The results of statistical analysis performed on expert validation showed that the evaluation model has achieved high validity (i.e., content, construct, criteria, and face validity), producing a highly valid prototype of instruction. The findings indicate that there is no need for any further refinements,  and the model is thus ready for immediate implementation. Moreover, the intrinsic and impact validity of the authentic blended assessment model was corroborated with the support of empirical user validation (lecturer and students) feedback. This describes the inherent characteristics that include main usability elements like clarity, easy usage, logical mapping, and completeness of learning content. The impact aspect highlights the effectiveness and worthiness of using the products in real-world learning environments. The study addresses an important gap in reading assessment and presents a practical and effective solution for educators and institutions looking to leverage Basic Reading assessor skills within a Self-Directed Learning principles approach. The results can provide an important link to promote autonomous learning, develop evaluation methods, and, finally, enhance students’ independent learning ability and academic achievement.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to produce an authentic assessment of reading comprehension in Blended learning that is valid on narrative text and analytical exposition text at SMA N 12 Padang. So that the product can be used as a source of learning English, especially narrative text and exposition analytical text material. This type of research is research and development (R&D) with the development model proposed by Plomp (2013). The stages used in this development model are only one stage, namely the prototyping phase which doubles as a validity test. The research instrument used was a self-evaluation and validity sheet which self-evaluation analyzes the conformity of the product with the criteria of authentic assessment, reading comprehension, and blended learning. Based on the validator's evaluation, the results of the validity of the authentic assessment product were obtained at 83.8% reading comprehension with a very valid category. It means that the authentic assessment for reading comprehension in Blended learning on narrative text and analytical exposition text material at SMA N 12 Padang is stated to be valid and can be used by teachers and students.

Abstract

In today’s digital age, the use of digital learning materials is essential for fostering language acquisition. This study delves into the quality of digital listening materials within the English textbook. This research aimed to analyze the quality of digital listening materials in the textbook “Bright: An English Course” for eighth-grade students. Employing a content analysis methodology, the study examined the materials using a checklist based on criteria proposed by Cunningsworth (1995) and additional digital standards adapted from Pešikan & Lalović (2023), Hustarna (2023), and Gezer & Anilan (2021). The findings revealed that while the majority of digital listening materials fulfilled the established criteria, as evidenced by the checklist data, significant limitations were identified. The incorporation of diverse listening tasks, contextualized learning, and digital multimedia elements represented positive aspects. However, deficiencies in authentic video content, pre-listening activities, and opportunities for student interaction decrease the materials' potential to optimize listening comprehension and language development. The study concludes that improvements are necessary to enhance the overall quality of digital listening materials within textbooks.

Abstract

This study aims to find out how English teachers apply the Think Pair Share Strategy and what difficulties are found when implementing the Think Pair Share Strategy in teaching speaking at SMP N 3 Matur. This study uses a qualitative method. The data collection technique used is purposive sampling. The participant in this study was a teacher who taught in class VII at SMP N 3 Matur. The research instruments used were observation, video recorder, and field notes. Researchers used indicators from Phan and Lan (2021). From the research data, it was found that the implementation of the Think Pair Share strategy was optimal, because the teacher had implemented all the procedures in teaching speaking. Although in implementing this strategy there are some difficulties faced by the teacher including there are students who do not convey or add when their friends share ideas in front of the class, there are students who are just silent, but when approached by the teacher to add he wants to add. In implementing this strategy, not all students can share their ideas in front of the class due to time constraints.

Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to see whether there is a positive correlation between students' time management and their English learning outcomes at Vocational School in Pulau Punjung or not. Thus, the researcher used correlation research in this study. The population 198 students in the X grade students of SMK N1 Pulau Punjung. However, in this research the researcher used a simple random sampling technique by randomly selecting students from each class as a trial class and as a research class. In this study, the sample 25% from the population was 50 students. The researcher used questionnaires an instrument to see students' time management and UAS scores to see students' English learning achievement. The data analysis technique was done by statistical calculation of Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The results showed that r-count = 0.439 with the interpretation of r 0.40-0.50 so that the level of relationship between the two variables is categorized as Enough Correlation. Thus it can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between students’ time management and students’ learning achievement at Vocational School in Pulau Punjung. The correlation between students time management and their English learning achievement was (0.439). Positively correlated if r-count > r-table. The value of r-table in this research is seen from the number of samples, in which the number of samples was 50 students. Based on 50 students, the value of the r-table in Product Moment with a significance level of 5% was (0.279). So the result of this research r-counted (0.439) was higher than r-table (0.279). So, Hi is accepted in this research.
