Abstract

This study seeks to explore the 21st-century skills that English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students develop through the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the classroom. Specifically, it aims to examine how students at SMA N 3 Padang, a high school in West Sumatra, Indonesia, acquire the 4C skills—communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking—when using ICT. The research follows a quantitative approach, utilizing a survey method. A random sampling technique was applied, selecting 115 students from a total population of 385. Data were collected through a questionnaire designed to assess 21st-century skills for EFL students, administered via Google Forms. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the results and determine the percentage of students demonstrating these skills. The findings revealed that students exhibited notable proficiency in all four 21st-century skills, with communication at 73.6%, collaboration at 74%, creativity at 74.4%, and critical thinking at 75.4%. These results highlight the positive role of ICT in fostering students' 4C skills, with the data reflecting moderate to high levels of achievement. In conclusion, the study demonstrates that students effectively develop these crucial competencies through ICT integration in their educational experience.

Abstract

 The Educational Profession course is crucial to teacher training, however transitioning to independent learning curricula is difficult. Teaching resources that fit the changing educational landscape are a big challenge. This study proposes incorporating cultural discourse into educational professional teaching resources to meet independent learning curricular requirements. To create these innovative instructional resources, a 4-D development model—define, design, develop, and disseminate—was painstakingly followed. The study focused on Padang's acclaimed PGRI University of West Sumatra's teachers and students. Observation, interviews, and testing collected data. Field tests showed the training materials were practical and effective. This study found: First, the teaching materials perfectly matched student needs. Second, the design phase produced useful learning aids to supplement the teaching content. Finally, the development phase produced a comprehensive integration of cultural discourse-based teaching materials for the Education Profession course, anchored by a Discourse Analysis Approach, displaying excellent validity. Field experiments showed promising results: The integrated learning approach's success and students' responses confirmed the teaching materials' usefulness. Students' better learning outcomes showed the instructional materials' usefulness, even though lecturers' comprehension and application varied. Cultural dialogue in educational professional teaching materials enhances learning and creates a more inclusive and engaging educational environment, according to the findings. The research recommends continual adaptation and improvement of teaching approaches to ensure lasting educational impact, as success depended on learning process and demographic aspects. In conclusion, this research is a pioneering endeavour to improve the Educational Profession course through cultural discourse, bridging the gap between traditional teaching methods and independent learning pedagogies. The study emphasizes the necessity of culturally responsive and effective learning ecosystems, setting a precedent for future curriculum design and educational practises.

Abstract

This research aims at finding students’ learning styles on Basic Reading. Difficulties that arise at learning Basic Reading are often due to differences in learning styles. It has been proposed that the lecturers should assess the learning styles of their students and adapt their classroom activities and assessment to best suit of student’s learning style. The data were collected in form of a survey using questionnaire. The samples were 55 students who enrolled in the first semester of higher education that selected randomly. It was found that in perceptual learning styles the students preferred having a visual style (3.79), followed by auditory (3.48), kinesthetic (3.47), reading/writing style (3.42), and tactile (3.40). Meanwhile, in sociological learning styles, the students preferred to study in a group (3.73) and an individual learning style (3.29). The findings show that the awareness on students’ preference in learning styles can help the lectures to design learning activities and task to them. By considering the students’ learning styles, we can achieve better pedagogical outcomes in Basic Reading classroom later.

Abstract

This study examined how students felt about online learning during the COVID 19 Pandemic at the Informatics Department of the University of Sumatera Barat. Students' ways of thinking, experiencing, or understanding the learning process might be influenced by their attitude. Teachers must therefore be aware of pupils' attitudes. Using empirical data, the researcher used this study to analyze how pupils think, feel, and behave. At the Informatics Department of Universiatas PGRI Sumatera Barat, the goal was to determine how the students' attitudes about thinking, feeling, and acting during the Covid 19 Pandemic influenced their usage of online learning. Research was conducted using a quantitative approach using either a survey or a descriptive design. Cross-sectional research was the study's research design. All students at Informatics Department session 2020 A are examined in this study of the twenty-three students of Universitas PGRI Sumatera Barat. The information was gathered using a survey. According to the study's findings, students exhibit a favorable attitude toward online learning, with a mean score of 3,5 (N = 23, st.d = 0.9). They behave negatively toward online learning, with a mean average of 2,9 (N=23, st.d = 1,0). Therefore, it is advised that teachers help their students transform their negative attitudes into good ones.

Abstract

Abstrak Dalam mengajarkan writing, guru perlu membuat media pembelajaran yang dapat meningkatkan motivasi belajar siswa untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menulis. Karena itu guru perlu diberikan training pembuatan media pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menulis siswa, salah satunya melalui Power Director pada guru- guru Bahasa Inggris. Power Director adalah sebuah perangkat lunak untuk mengedit video dengan berbagai macam fitur yang dapat digunakan untuk membuat video sendiri dengan semua jenis berkas seperti foto, klip video dan trek audio. Secara umum pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk membekali guru- guru agar dapat menggunakan aplikasi Power Director sebagai media pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menulis siswa. Abstract

This service activity aims to provide motivation and knowledge to improve the skills of teachers specifically Kindergarten teacher to produce teaching module as an effort to improve the professionalism of teachers in implementing Merdeka curriculum. Service activities are conducted in 1 meeting, on June 4 2024 at TK Al-Quran Amal Saleh. This service activity is carried out using lecture methods, focus group discussions, and training methods. The PkM (Community Service) activity successfully motivated and inspired participants in producing teaching module.  Participants expressed high satisfaction, emphasizing the training's clear and engaging content. The provided material, focusing on practical skills, was well-received and deemed immediately applicable. All participants confirmed the alignment of the material with the training theme and its easy comprehensibility, along with an engaging presentation style, positive impact on motivation, knowledge enhancement, and skills improvement, particularly benefiting Kindergarten teachers in producing teaching module. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan motivasi dan pengetahuan guna meningkatkan keterampilan para guru khususnya guru Taman Kanak-kanak untuk menghasilkan modul ajar sebagai upaya meningkatkan profesionalisme guru dalam penerapan kurikulum merdeka. Kegiatan pengabdian dilaksanakan dalam satu kali pertemuan, pada tanggal 4 Juni 2024 di TK Al-Quran Amal Saleh. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan dengan metode ceramah, diskusi kelompok terfokus, dan metode pelatihan. Kegiatan PkM (Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat) ini berhasil memotivasi dan menginspirasi peserta dalam menghasilkan modul pengajaran. Para peserta menyatakan kepuasannya yang tinggi, dengan menekankan pada isi pelatihan yang jelas dan menarik. Materi yang diberikan, dengan fokus pada keterampilan praktis, diterima dengan baik dan dianggap dapat segera diterapkan. Seluruh peserta menegaskan kesesuaian materi dengan tema pelatihan dan mudah dipahami serta gaya penyajian yang menarik. dampak positif terhadap motivasi, peningkatan pengetahuan, dan peningkatan keterampilan, khususnya bermanfaat bagi guru TK dalam menghasilkan modul ajar.

Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to see whether there is a positive correlation between students' time management and their English learning outcomes at Vocational School in Pulau Punjung or not. Thus, the researcher used correlation research in this study. The population 198 students in the X grade students of SMK N1 Pulau Punjung. However, in this research the researcher used a simple random sampling technique by randomly selecting students from each class as a trial class and as a research class. In this study, the sample 25% from the population was 50 students. The researcher used questionnaires an instrument to see students' time management and UAS scores to see students' English learning achievement. The data analysis technique was done by statistical calculation of Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The results showed that r-count = 0.439 with the interpretation of r 0.40-0.50 so that the level of relationship between the two variables is categorized as Enough Correlation. Thus it can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between students’ time management and students’ learning achievement at Vocational School in Pulau Punjung. The correlation between students time management and their English learning achievement was (0.439). Positively correlated if r-count > r-table. The value of r-table in this research is seen from the number of samples, in which the number of samples was 50 students. Based on 50 students, the value of the r-table in Product Moment with a significance level of 5% was (0.279). So the result of this research r-counted (0.439) was higher than r-table (0.279). So, Hi is accepted in this research.

Abstract

Parental involvement in English language learning plays an important role in shaping students' academic success and overall well-being. Based on pre-observation, it was found that many students still have difficulties in understanding English learning. This study was conducted with the aim to find out how parents' involvement and see the comparison of father and mother involvement in English learning by using qualitative method. There were 21 respondents and 6 parents who were purposively selected. The researcher collected data by distributing questionnaires to students and interviews with parents. We found that the involvement of both parents has a positive contribution to the progress of their children's English learning. The influence of father's involvement is not as strong as the influence of mother's involvement in English learning because fathers do not spend much time with their children at home because they are busy working. However, fathers also try to be a good example for their children. From the results above, it was found to maximize students' English learning, good cooperation and support between both parents is very necessary.

Abstract

Abstract. This study aimed to measure self-directed learning using blended learning in the reading subject in higher education. The researcher employed the descriptive method with a quantitative approach. Self-directed learning was the sole focus of the investigation. In line with Williamson, S. N., five aspects were to measured self-directed learning: awareness, learning strategies, learning activities, evaluation, and interpersonal skills. The researcher acquired data on self-directed learning through a questionnaire. The study's population comprised English students at Universitas PGRI Sumatera Barat during the 2022 academic year, totaling 55 students. Employing purposive sampling, the entire population of 55 students was included in the sample. Upon analyzing the collected data using SPSS 22, the researchers employed the percentage formula to ascertain the students' score distribution. The findings indicated a noteworthy 76% overall score, signifying a high level of self-directed learning. These outcomes suggest that students at Universitas PGRI Sumatra Barat exhibited robust traits of responsibility, persistence, self-control, discipline, and effective learning strategies.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh beberapa kendala yang dialami oleh siswa saat mengerjakan penilaian yang biasanya dikerjakan secara luring kemudian beralih menjadi daring selama masa pandemi Covid-19. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat bagaimana sikap siswa dalam penilaian luring dan daring pada mata pelajaran bahasa inggris di SMKN 1 Lubuk Sikaping. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan pendekatan desain survei yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana perilaku siswa saat guru memberikan penilaian secara luring dan daring pada mata pelajaran bahasa inggris. Sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah 100 orang siswa kelas XII di SMKN 1 Lubuk Sikaping dengan teknik pengambilan data random sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan kuisioner dan wawancara. Hasil dari penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa siswa kelas XII di SMKN 1 Lubuk Sikaping masing-masing memiliki sikap positif dan negatif pada penilaian luring dan daring. Sikap positif dan negatif ini dapat dilihat dari tiga komponen sikap yaitu kognitif, afektif dan psikomotor mereka.
