Abstract

The position of Tarjumān al-Mustafīd by Abdurrauf al-Singkili as a precedent for interpretive literature in Indonesia has ontological problems. Accusations circulated that Tarjumān al-Mustafīd was just a translated copy of al-Baiḍāwi's commentary on Anwār al-Tanzīl wa Asrār al-Ta'wīl. In comparison, other groups consider it a translation of Tafsīr Jalālayn. These two claims seem to cast doubt on Tarjumān Al-Mustafīd as an authentic interpretation work. Every work of interpretation always involves the subjectivity of the interpreter. Through an analysis of the epistemology of interpretation, this research reveals the genealogy, method, and validity of al-Singkili's interpretation in Tarjumān al-Mustafīd. The findings of this research highlight three essential aspects: First, Tarjumān al-Mustafīd is not merely the result of translation (vernacularization) of one particular interpretation as has been alleged so far. Several other tafsir, such as Tafsīr Jalālayn and Tafsīr al-Khāzin, also influenced the presentation pattern of Tarjumān al-Mustafīd. Second, al-Singkili's interpretive method is similar to al-Baiḍāwi but not wholly the same. Al-Singkili also adopted the pattern of writing the Indonesian turath books, which use keywords such as fāidah, tanbīh, the word mufasir, and others. Third, Tarjumān al-Mustafīd qualifies as a valid or authentic interpretation of consistency and correspondence. This research offers a novel contribution by positioning Tarjumān al-Mustafīd as a unique synthesis of classical Islamic exegesis and the scholarly tradition of the Nusantara, demonstrating its originality as an interpretive work that bridges global Islamic scholarship with localized epistemological frameworks.

Abstract

This study explores the Marakka' Bola tradition as an educational medium to instil character values in the youth of South Sulawesi. Employing a qualitative research approach, data were gathered through observation, interviews, and documentation. The Marakka' Bola tradition, widely practised in Palakka Village, Barru District, embodies the values of unity, cooperation, and integrity. The findings reveal that the Marakka' Bola tradition is a significant cultural heritage of the Bugis community, recognised as an intangible cultural asset of Indonesia. It is a practical application of Pancasila values, particularly gotong royong (cooperation). However, the research identifies challenges, such as waning youth participation in traditional practices due to modernisation and a lack of cultural and educational significance awareness. By engaging in Marakka' Bola, participants experience a sense of togetherness and solidarity, essential for cultivating a strong societal character. This study underscores the importance of preserving ancestral traditions like Marakka' Bola, not only as a cultural identity but also as a dynamic tool for character education. The research advocates for integrating traditional practices into broader educational frameworks to address contemporary challenges in youth character development and enhance community cohesion.

Abstract

This article discusses the interpretation of Q.S. 2:233 in the context of exclusive breastfeeding and childcare through a maqāṣidī tafsir approach. The research integrates analysis of the Qur'anic text with modern psychological theory and public health policy to highlight the relevance of Islamic teachings to contemporary issues, such as reducing stunting and children's right to optimal growth and development. The results show that Q.S. 2:233 not only provides spiritual guidance but also reflects the principles of maqāṣidī sharia, particularly in safeguarding physical health (ḥifẓ al-badan) and offspring (ḥifẓ al-nasl). In addition, this study explores cultural and traditional challenges in child-rearing practices, particularly in balancing religious obligations with modern societal changes, such as career-oriented motherhood and shifting family dynamics. This interdisciplinary approach offers a more holistic understanding for policymakers and society in promoting the importance of breastfeeding and parenting based on Qur'anic values.

Abstract

This study investigates the significant role of social support within pesantren in shaping santri's religious moderation identity. The escalating global challenges to religious harmony highlight the critical need to cultivate a balanced, tolerant, and inclusive understanding of Islam, particularly among the youth. Pesantren, as traditional Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia, possess immense potential in fostering such an identity. While qualitative studies have broadly acknowledged this role, there is a distinct lack of systematic quantitative research specifically analyzing the multi-dimensional aspects of social support—from educators, peers, and institutional policies/culture—and their direct impact on santri's religious moderation identity, particularly when framed by Social Identity Theory. This research, conducted in selected pesantren in Karesidenan Kedu, Central Java, employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. Data from 380 santri were collected using a structured questionnaire via simple random sampling and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings reveal that all dimensions of social support within pesantren—namely, support from educators, support from peers, and support from pesantren policy and culture—each have a significant positive influence on santri's religious moderation identity. This indicates that the comprehensive social ecosystem within pesantren profoundly shapes santri's self-identification as moderate, their openness to diverse religious views, and their rejection of extremism. The research contributes empirical evidence to Social Identity Theory, demonstrating its applicability in understanding religious identity formation within traditional educational settings, and provides practical implications for pesantren management to strategically enhance these social support mechanisms for fostering stronger moderate religious identities among santri.

Abstract

AbstractThe Qur'an with all the words and sentences in it always gives birth to a double meaning. In accordance with the point of view, the approach used is the interpreter or reader. One of the words reviewed is sulthan, because the word contains variations in meaning depending on the syntax of the sentence before and after and the context that accompanies it. Therefore, this study reveals the meaning of the word sulthan from the verse Q.S. Ar-Rahman (55): 33. The theoretical approach used is the theory of ma'na cum maghza which was pioneered by Sahiron Syamsuddin as a hermeneutic lighter at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. With the description-analysis analysis method as well as the primary source in the form of the interpretation of the word sultan from various books of interpretation and also the Qur'an itself. Then secondary sources in the form of studies related to the theme of discussion, either in the form of journals, books, and so on. The results of this study are first, this verse is used as a reference source for the science of astronomy to explore the universe, because it expresses the invitation to penetrate the heavens and the earth. Second, the word sulthan in Surah Ar-Rahman verse 33 describes the power and power of Allah over his supervision of humans and jinn. Third, in depth the Qur'an through Surah Ar-Rahman verse 33 is a proof of Allah's power. AbstrakAl-Qur’an dengan segala kata dan kalimat di dalamnya selalu melahirkan makna ganda. Sesuai dengan sudut pandang, pendekatan yang digunakan mufassir atau pembaca. Salah satu kata yang diulas adalah sulthan, karena kata tersebut mengandung variasi makna tergantung kepada sintaksis kalimat sebelum dan sesudah serta konteks yang menyertainya. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini mengungkapkan makna kata sulthan dari ayat Q.S. Ar-Rahman (55): 33. Adapun teori pendekatan yang digunakan adalah teori ma’na cum maghza yang dipelopori oleh Sahiron Syamsuddin selaku pemantik hermeneutika di UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. Dengan metode analisis deskripsi-analisis serta sumber primer berupa penafsiran kata sulthan dari berbagai kitab tafsir dan juga al-Qur’an itu sendiri. Kemudian sumber sekunder berupa kajian-kajian yang terkait dengan tema pembahasan, baik berupa jurnal, buku, dan lain sebagainya. Adapun hasil penelitian ini adalah pertama, ayat ini dijadikan sumber rujukan tentang ilmu astronomi untuk menjelajahi alam semesta, karena di dalamnya mengungkapkan dipersilahkannya menembus langit dan bumi.  Kedua,  kata sulthan dalam surah Ar-Rahman ayat 33 mendeskripsikan tentang kekuatan dan kekuasaan Allah terhadap pengawasannya kepada manusia dan jin. Ketiga, secara mendalam al-Qur’an melalui surah Ar-Rahman ayat 33 ini sebagai bukti kekuasaan Allah Kata Kunci: Interpretasi; Ma’na-Cum-Maghza; QS. ar-Rahman: 33; Sulthan.

Abstract

AbstractChildfree, who is committed to withholding children, is seen as the basis for a couple to reach their desired goals, but on the other hand, Indonesian socio-cultural aspects, both legally and culturally, require that they have offspring. From this phenomenon, this article describes the concept of childfree which is responded to by the Qur'an with various interpretations. In this case, the main argument for responding to childfree is Q.S. Ali 'Imran: 38-39 which gives an understanding of the commitment to have children. The theory used in this research is the theory of maqāṣid interpretation analysis which was coined by Abdul Mustaqim. This theory reveals the message behind the meaning of the Qur'an, in this case examining maqāṣid on childfree responses which are considered the principle of freedom. This research is a type of library research that uses data sources in the form of journal articles, books, and other documentary data with the same theme. The results of this study are that there are no specific verses discussing childfree and there are values of maqāṣid that appear, namely hifzhh al-din containing the continuity of religious development, hifzhh al-nasl the existence of gaps that occur in the future, and hifzh al- look at the quality of society and the condition of the people's welfare. AbstrakChildfree yang berkomitmen untuk menahan memiliki anak dipandang sebagai landasan pasutri untuk menggapai cita-cita yang diinginkan, tetapi di sisi lain sosio-kultural Indonesia baik secara undang-undang maupun budaya masyarakat mengharuskan memiliki keturunan. Dari fenomena tersebut artikel ini menguraikan konsep childfree yang direspon oleh Alqurandengan berbagai penafsirannya. Dalam hal ini yang menjadi dalil utama untuk merespon childfree adalah Q.S. Ali ‘Imran: 38-39 yang memberikan pemahaman atas komitmen untuk memiliki keturunan. Adapun teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori analisis tafsir maqāṣid yang dicetuskan oleh Abdul Mustaqim. Teori ini mengungkapkan pesan dibalik makna al-Qur’an, dalam hal ini mengkaji maqāṣid atas respon childfree yang dianggap sebagai prinsip kebebasan. Penelitian ini berjenis library research yang menggunakan sumber data berupa artikel jurnal, buku, serta data dokumentar lain yang setema. Hasil penelitian ini adalah ayat yang spesifik membicarakan childfree tidak ditemukan dan adanya nilai-nilai maqāṣid yang muncul yaitu hifzh al-din memuat adanya kontinuitas perkembangan agama, hifzh al-nasl adanya kesenjangan yang terjadi di masa depan, dan hifzh al-daulah melihat kualitas masyarakat dan kondisi kesejahteraan rakyat. Abstract

AbstractThe dynamics of contemporary phenomena that occur today are so many of the emergence of the moral degradation of spirituality. With the development of technology, the doctrine of Sufism has been adjusted so that it can be accepted by the general public and becomes a counter to the negative impacts of social media so that it can be interpreted in the era of social media. This study explores the concept and contextualization of zuhud. Through the descriptive and interpretative analysis method, the analysis describes the basic meaning of the concept of zuhud, then looks at its development and is related to the era of social media. The sources used are various studies on zuhud in journals, books, and so on, as well as the elaboration of references on digital technology, especially social media platforms. The results of this study are first the meaning of zuhud, which is defined as a spiritual capital that is not excessive. Second, the contextualization of zuhud is understood in the era of the development of information technology, especially social networking platforms, it means social media as needed.Keywords: Contextualization; Social media; Zuhud concept.AbstrakDinamika fenomena kekinian yang terjadi saat ini begitu banyak munculnya degradasi moral spiritualitas. Dengan berkembangnya teknologi, ajaran tasawuf telah disesuaikan agar dapat diterima oleh masyarakat luas dan menjadi counter terhadap dampak negatif media sosial sehingga dapat dimaknai di era media sosial. Kajian ini mengeksplorasi konsep dan kontekstualisasi zuhud. Melalui metode analisis deskriptif dan interpretatif, analisis tersebut mendeskripsikan makna dasar dari konsep zuhud, kemudian melihat perkembangannya dan dikaitkan dengan era media sosial. Sumber yang digunakan adalah berbagai kajian tentang zuhud dalam jurnal, buku, dan sebagainya, serta penjabaran referensi tentang teknologi digital khususnya platform media sosial. Hasil penelitian ini pertama adalah pengertian zuhud yang diartikan sebagai modal spiritual yang tidak berlebihan. Kedua, kontekstualisasi zuhud diaplikasikan di era perkembangan teknologi informasi, khususnya platform jejaring sosial, artinya media sosial sesuai kebutuhan yang adaptabel.Kata Kunci: Kontekstualisasi, Konsep zuhud, Media sosial.

Abstract

AbstractExamining a manuscript will uncover numerous aspects of Islam. The Bahjat Al-ʻUlūm was discovered in Magelang City. This study aims to analyze the verses found in the manuscript of Bahjat Al-ʻUlūm by Abu Layts As-Samarkandi and elucidate the method and style of interpretation used. This study employed a descriptive analysis method with library study. The book Bahjat Al-ʻUlūm discusses the 'ilm al-kalam and includes nine Qur'anic verses. The analysis of these verses reveals that two verses illustrate the muqaddimah (preface); Allah’s trait Al-Razzaq is addressed in the third and fourth verses, belief in the angels is explored in the fifth verse, the names of prophets are mentioned in the sixth verse, the rewards for the believers and disbelievers are discussed in the seventh and eighth verses, and faith is elaborated in the ninth verse. The Quranic verses mentioned serve as a legal foundation. The author has determined that the verses were interpreted using the ijmali approach with a sufhi style.Keywords: Abu Layst As-Samarqandi, Bahjat Al-ʻUlūm, Manuscript, and Interpretation. AbstrakKajian pada sebuah manuskrip akan mengungkapkan berbagai aspek keislaman. Salah satu manuskrip yang ditemukan di Kota Magelang yakni manuskrip Bahjat Al-ʻUlūm. Tujuan penelitian untuk mempelajari ayat-ayat dalam manuskrip kitab Bahjat Al-ʻUlūm karya Abu layts assamarkandi, kemudian menjelaskan mengenai metode dan corak penafsirannya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif dengan studi kepustakaan. Kitab Bahjat Al-ʻUlūm menjelaskan tentang ilmu kalam dan terdapat sembilan ayat  Al-Qur’an. Temuan analisis ayat-ayat tersebut yaitu: dua ayat menjelaskan muqaddimah, Sifat Al-Razzaq dibahas pada ayat ketiga dan keempat, iman kepada malaikat dibahas pada ayat kelima, nama-nama nabi dibahas pada ayat keenam, respon orang mukmin dan kafir dibahas pada ayat ketujuh dan kedelapan, dan iman dijelaskan pada ayat kesembilan. Ayat-ayat  Alquran yang dikutip dimaksudkan sebagai landasan hukum. Setelah mempelajari ayat-ayat tersebut penulis mengetahui bahwa metode yang digunakan untuk menafsirkan ayat-ayat tersebut adalah metode ijmali dengan corak tafsir shufi. Abstract

 This article purpose to resolve the controversy about female circumcision from the perspektive of hadith and health science. The problem is religius order about circumcision for women is clearly contained in the hadith of the Prophet SAW. This hadith is believed have a goodness for women. But this religious argument contradicts the world view of health. Circumcision is actually considered a practice detrimental to women's groups. Reinforcer the perspektive The Indonesian Ministry of Health issued a circular letter concerning the Prohibition of Medicalization of Female Circumcision with number: HK.00.07.1.3.1047a. on April 20, 2006. This study is literature research. To analyse the issue, this study uses the paradigm of fiqh al-hadis and modern health theory regarding female circumcision. The conclusion in this research is the Islamic recommendation regarding female circumcision and the disclaimer of the Indonesian Ministry of Health are not fundamentally contradictory. The hadiths advocating circumcision are not absolute. In Islamic fiqh, it is also regulated how the procedure for female circumcision. For example, the right time to do circumcision and the application process so that. This provision was formulated with the aim of safeguarding women's rights in accordance with religious goals. Although this provision actually still originates from the product of patriarchal fiqh and cannot be separated from the developing cultural construction. However, this provision is well established and must be universally understood. Meanwhile, the circular letter from the Ministry of Health is not absolute. This policy must be understood in a certain context because it departs from cases that occurred in the field. The important point is that circumcision for women must be carried out in accordance with the correct methods and procedures, by not spending the entire labium minora on the female genitalia.  Abstrak: Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk menyelesaikan kontroversi masalah khitan bagi perempuan dalam perspektif hadis dan medis. Letak persoalannya yakni: perintah khitan bagi perempuan termuat jelas dalam hadis Rasul SAW. Anjuran hadis tersebut diyakini mengandung sejumlah kebaikan bagi perempuan. Tetapi dalil agama ini bertolak belakang dengan pandangan dunia kesehatan modern. Khitan justru dianggap sebagai praktik merugikan kelompok perempuan. Mempertegas masalah itu Kementerian Kesehatan RI mengeluarkan surat edaran tentang Larangan Medikalisasi Sunat Perempuan dengan nomor: HK.00.07.1.3.1047a. pada 20 April 2006. Studi ini merupakan library research (kajian kepustakaan). Dalam menganalisis persoalan, studi ini menggunakan paradigma fiqh al-hadis dan teori kesehatan modern menyangkut sunat bagi perempuan. Kajian dalam tulisan ini menyimpulkan bahwa anjuran Islam tentang khitan bagi perempuan dan sikap Kementerian Kesehatan RI tidaklah bertentangan secara hakiki. Hadis-hadis yang menganjurkan perempuan berkhitan tidaklah bersifat mutlak. Dalam fiqih Islam juga diatur bagaimana tata cara khitan bagi perempuan. Misalnya, waktu yang tepat melakukan khitan dan proses aplikasinya. Ketentuan ini dirumuskan bertujuan untuk menjaga hak-hak perempuan sesuai dengan tujuan agama. Meskipun ketentuan ini sesungguhnya masih berasal dari produk fiqih patriarki dan tidak bisa dilepaskan dari kunstruksi budaya yang berkembang. Akan tetapi, ketentuan ini sudah mapan dan harus dipahami secara universal. Sedangkan surat edaran Kementerian Kesehatan juga bersifat tidak mutlak. Kebijakan ini mesti dipahami dengan konteks tertentu karena beranjak dari kasus-kasus yang terjadi di lapangan. Poin pentingnya bahwa pelaksanaan khitan bagi perempuan harus dilakukan sesuai dengan metode dan prosedur yang benar, dengan tidak menghabiskan seluruh labium minora pada alat kelamin wanita.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the tensions that arise in the production of knowledge by Islamic scholarly authorities between idealism and reality. Numerous studies have examined Islamic religious authorities that produce Islamic knowledge in the form of fatwas, rulings, and opinions. However, existing research has yet to highlight how idealism and reality interact in this production process in the contemporary era. The interplay between idealism and reality in knowledge production has not been thoroughly explored. This study employs a qualitative method with a content analysis approach. The findings reveal that the efforts of Islamic scholarly authorities to ideally produce Islamic knowledge, as conceptualized by ‘Abd al-Majīd as-Ṣaghīr, face various real-world challenges. These include the minority status of Muslims, threats to personal safety from violent actors, a lack of public trust due to scholars holding executive government positions, and the presence of an undereducated (bromocorah) community at the village level. These conditions force Islamic scholarly authorities to postpone the implementation of the ideal model (an-namūdhaj al-mithālī) and adopt various adaptive strategies. This article implies that while Islamic scholarly authorities continue striving to realize their ideal model, the realities they face compel them to adapt and delay its implementation. This narrative sheds light on an aspect that has not been extensively discussed in previous studies. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap bagaimana tarik-ulur yang terjadi pada produksi pengetahuan oleh otoritas ilmiah dalam Islam antara keidealan dan realitasnya. Studi mengenai otoritas agama Islam yang memproduksi pengetahuan keislaman, baik berupa fatwa, keputusan, maupun pendapat, telah banyak dilakukan. Namun, riset yang ada selama ini belum menyoroti bagaimana keidealan dan realitas produksi tersebut di era kekinian. Tarik-ulur antara keidealan dan realitas dalam proses produksi pengetahuan ini belum pernah diungkap secara mendalam. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan content-analysis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa upaya produksi pengetahuan keislaman secara ideal oleh otoritas ilmiah dalam Islam, sebagaimana yang digagas ‘Abd al-Majīd as-Ṣaghīr, menghadapi berbagai kendala dalam realitasnya. Beberapa di antaranya adalah kondisi muslim yang minoritas, ancaman keselamatan jiwa dari aktor kekerasan, kurangnya kepercayaan masyarakat akibat ulama menjabat sebagai pejabat publik di tingkat eksekutif, serta kendala masyarakat kurang terdidik (bromocorah) di tingkat desa. Situasi ini memaksa otoritas ilmiah Islam untuk menunda model ideal (an-namūdhaj al-mithālī) dan melakukan berbagai bentuk adaptasi. Artikel ini memberikan implikasi bahwa meskipun otoritas ilmiah Islam terus berupaya mewujudkan model idealnya, realitas yang dihadapi memaksa mereka untuk menyesuaikan diri dan menunda penerapannya. Narasi ini mengungkap aspek yang selama ini belum banyak dibahas dalam studi terkait.
