Abstract

Futsal is one of the sport that begin to be popular in Indonesia. Physical condition in futsal is an important aspect because it directly aff ects athlete performance especially for speed and cardiorespiratory. One of the factor that aff ect physical condition is percentage of body fat. The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between percent body fat with physical condition of futsal athletes in Surabaya. This study was an observational analytic study with cross sectional design. The population were sixty-eight peoples from members of Buana Mas FC, Garuda Emas FC, Nisrina FC and Surabaya Porprov team 2019. Fifty-four peoples were selected as subject of this study by proportional random sampling method. Data collection included questionnaires for respondent characteristics namely age, occupation, education, smoking history and sports activity, and then, measurement of subcutaneous fat thickness using skinfold calliper, and measuring speed and cardiorespiratory endurance using sprint 20m and yoyo test. Data analyze used Spearman correlation test. The result of this study showed most of respondent have normal percentage of body fat (59.3%). Respondents speed mostly classifi ed as lacking (50.0%) and cardiorespiratory endurance respondents mostly classifi ed as suffi cient (59.3%). The results showed an positive correlation (p = 0.001; R=0.732) between percent body fat with speed, it was mean that the higher percentage of body fat, the slower sprint time. And there was negative correlation (p = 0.001; R=-0.639) between percentage of body fat and cardiorespiratory endurance, so the higher percentage of body fat, the lower cardiorespiratory endurance. This contradictory conclusion is due to increasing sprint time, the respondent speed will decrease while V02Max increase so the cardiorespiratory endurance will increase.

Abstract

Nutrient intake in cancer patients is diff erent from other disease due to side eff ects of chemotherapy, like nausea, vomit, and appetite loss, which in the long run it have an impact on the nutritional status of patients. The study used systematic reviews to determine side eff ects of chemotherapy on macro nutrient intake and nutritional status of cancer patients in 15 literature. Those literatures were taken from articles published from 2005 to 2019 in PubMed, NCBI, and Google Scholar and all of them were using observational research design. The results of 15 literature showed, there was a decrement in macro nutrient intake including energy, carbohydrates, protein, and fat as a result of chemotherapy side eff ects such as nausea, vomit, and appetite loss. Ten of 15 literature showed the patient nutritional status was underweight, and 5 literature showed overweight and obesity due to the use of corticosteroids as supporting treatment. The future research opportunities that can be carried out a deeper analysis of the relationship of nutritional intake and changes in nutritional status of patients with longer duration for the research, measurement methods by using gold standards which are weighing food record, as well as diff erent types of cancer.

Abstract

The increasing number of tobacco users will directly impact to an increase in the number of passive smokers. Various harmful substances that enter the respiratory tract can cause health problems. The airway will recognize these substances as pathogen and activate immune response accordingly. Inflammatory response becomes one of the effects of body compensation due to an increased pathogen. This effect is indicated by the elevation of C-Reactive Protein as one systemic inflammatory response parameters in the body. This study aimed to determine the efficacy of red mulberry juice to reduce levels of C-Reactive Protein in Wistar rats because exposure to cigarette smoke. This is an experimental study with a post-test control group design. Animals were divided into negative control group, positive control group, and 3 treatment groups with different red mulberry doses. The positive control group showed the highest increase   in C-Reactive Protein levels compared with the red mulberry intake group (p<0,001). In conclusion, the administration of red mulberry juice can reduce inflammatory response in rats because of exposure to cigarette smoke.

Abstract

The number of Indonesian smokers in 2013 has reached 36.3% and continues to increase each year. This will directly affect the increase in passive smokers in Indonesia. Harmful free radicals from cigarette smoke inhaled can lead to irritation of the bronchial airways. Irritation of the airways characterized by mucus hypersecretion induced goblet cell hyperplasia of the bronchi. Giving antioxidants superoxide dismutase melon extract with a combination of gliadin (SOD-gliadin) reduces radical that goblet cell hyperplasia in the bronchial airways can be reduced. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the SOD-gliadin to the decrease of goblet cell hyperplasia of the bronchi. Giving SOD-gliadin carried out for 28 days with exposure to smoke two cigarettes per day using 5 groups: negative control, positive control and 3 treatment groups with different doses (2,25 IU; 4,5 IU; 9 IU). Observation of goblet cell hyperplasia performed on histological preparations with a longitudinal section with four visual field.
