Abstract

This study aims to describe income utilization at the household level from an Islamic perspective. A qualitative approach with semi-structured interviews was carried out on 3 Muslim families longitudinally in 2015 and 2022. In the framework of household income management, Muslim families conduct the planning, implementation, and monitoring processes to spend income meeting their needs. During the planning stage, Muslim families prepare the planning process based on lillahi taala's (everything for god) intentions. Then at the implementation stage, Muslim families carry out activities to fulfill their needs in a halal and Thayib way. As for the monitoring stage, Muslim families spend some of their income through zakat, infaq, and sadaqah as a sustainability act toward the afterlife. Adaptation in income utilization practices can result from several factors: 1) socio-economic status and 2) technological change. Keywords: income utilization, household needs, Muslim family

Abstract

The objectives of this research are: (1) to analyze the market structure of subsidizedfertilizer in East Java, (2) to analyze the need of subsidized fertilizer which should beallocated to their farms, (3) to observe the deviation, if any, of subsidized fertilizerdistribution along the distribution channel. This research found that the market struc-ture has the following characteristics: the access of market information is generallyquite even among distributors at the same level but not between different level. Fromthe market conduct point of view, it is found that there are rent seeking behaviorsresulting in some deviation in distribution channel as mentioned above. It is the resultof market structure being characterized by oligopolistic in nature. Abstract

This study analyzes the relations between fiscal decentralization, economic growth, and regional development inequality in Eastern Indonesia using 2016-2019 panel data of thirteen Eastern Indonesia provinces obtained from Statistics Indonesia and the Directorate General for Fiscal Balance. Using simultaneous equations estimated through the Three-Stage Least Squares, this study finds that fiscal decentralization has not fully supported economic growth and correct the inequality in eastern Indonesia’s regional development. The mandate for managing the budget has not been optimally used by the local governments, indicated by poor allocation for productive expenditures and its decreasing proportion during the research period. It is caused by poor human resource quality in budget planning and management, which finally hinders the quality of public service and economic growth. Supports from physical and human capital are required to keep up with the occurring economic activities so that inequality in regional development in the area can be reduced.

Abstract

East Java is the engine of Indonesia’s economic growth. Nevertheless, this region is still faced with the performance of industrial development, which has yet to increase consistently, thereby worsening efficiency and economic growth. As a result, this paper aims to investigate the causes and consequences of capital efficiency in the context of East Java. This paper produces three results by employing the 3SLS simultaneous equation estimation method. First, this paper demonstrates that industrial development in East Java improves efficiency. Second, improving the education level has a positive effect on capital efficiency. Lastly, an increase in capital inefficiency leads to a negative effect on economic growth in East Java. This study suggests three key policies for accelerating economic growth in East Java: providing incentives to industries that can increase capital efficiency, developing innovations to increase capital efficiency, and improving education quality to encourage increased human resource productivity.JEL Classification: D24, O14, O4How to Cite:Santoso, D. Abstract

Abstract

Purpose This research aims to assess the influence of Village Funds on rural development, as proxied by the Village Development Index, across 33 provinces in Indonesia from 2018 to 2022. Design/methodology/approach This research uses the Panel Data Regression Model to analyze the data. Findings This finding implies a positive impact of the Village Fund in driving rural development. In addition, other endogenous variables, such as the Human Development Index (HDI) and population size, also show a significant influence on rural development outcomes. These results highlight the multifaceted nature of rural development, not only financial resources but also human development and demographic factors play crucial roles. Research limitations/implications This study uses the Village Development Index to describe the condition of village development, Village Fund as an interest variable, Human development index, rural poor population, and total provincial population as control variables. Originality/value While there are studies that use Village Development Index (VDI) as a dependent variable to measure the influence of the Village Funds, they still have limitations in terms of their research scope, typically confined to a single district or city. This study will complement previous research by examining villages in all provinces of Indonesia.
