Abstract

ABSTRACT This study deals with how often Raditya Dika produces types of deixis in stand-up comedy show. This research was based on descriptive design by applying qualitative method and converting the data numerically. The data of this study  were the three selected videos of Raditya dika downloaded from youtube. There were 709 sentences produced after transcribing those videos into written language. The findings of this study show that those five types of deixis were found in Raditya Dika’s utterances, they are: person (68.94%), spatial (5.24%), temporal (5.83%), discourse (8.60%) and social (11.37%). The most dominant type of deixis found is person deixis with “gue” or “I” as the dominant deictic word. Person deixis is dominantly used because the comics in stand-up comedy conduct first point of view that make the use of personal pronoun more often than others. Abstract

ABSTRACT The objectives of this research were to find out the five types of illocutionary acts, namely: Directive, Commisives, Expressive, Assertive, Declarative and the dominant one used in Transformers”Dark of the Moon”. This research was conducted by using quantitative descriptive design. It took 735 utterances taken from the subtitle of Transformers “Dark of the Moon” which were released in June 29, 2011. The result of analyzing found five types of process were used in Transformers “Dark of the Moon”, they were: Directive, Commisive, Expressive, Assertive and Declarative. There were 735 illocutionary acts in 735 utterances. The findings of data analysis showed that the total numbers of process from the five types of illocutionary acts were: Directive is 361 (47,94%) utterances. The total number of Commisive  is 39 (5,17%) utterances. The total number of Expressive is 58 (7,70%) utterances. The total number of Assertives is 294 (39,04%). And the total number of Declaratives is 1 (0,13%). It means that Directive is the most dominant type of Illocutionary Acts used in Transformers “Dark of the Moon” movie. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study deals with the graduate students’ syntactical errors in writing thesis. This thesis describes the syntactical errors made by the graduate students of English Department and Applied Linguistics of the State University of Medan in writing thesis. One of the purposes of writing thesis is to know the types of syntacticalerror and the dominant types. This study uses a qualitative design in which the data are taken from the sentences of thesis. The data are collected and described using surface strategy taxonomy proposed by Dulay, Burt, and Krashen. Then, the errors found are classified into syntactical errors based on Politzer and Romirez’ model as a guideline. The researcher applies randomly technique to get a representative sample, there are 6 theses as the sample. The findings of analysis show that the totals of syntactical errors are 387 sentences. The analysis found that there are four types of syntactical errors which used; they are Omision156, Addition 46, Misformation 114 and Misordering 19. The most dominant type of syntactical errors made in graduate students’ thesis is omission. Keywords:Syntactical Errors, Thesis.
