Abstract

Aggressive behavior in parenting is a crucial factor for the temperament of children. This study evaluated the relationship between the mother's aggressive behaviors and her children's temperament. The research design applied a cross-sectional survey by using multistage sampling. Two hundred forty-five participants joined this study by responding to a questionnaire. Good aggressive behaviors from caregivers to protect children against physical and psychological harm and danger were observed in mothers aged 26-35 (89.9%) and well-educated mothers (96.8%). The data showed that 4.54 (± 0.912) mothers protect their children from unhealthy foods. The temperament of children was not related to age (p-value = 0.372), mothers' educational background (p = 0.824), and mothers' job status (p = 0.705). Family income had no relation with the child's temperament (p-value = 0.253). There was no relationship between mothers' aggressive behaviors and the temperament of children in avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) child cases. The number of children and the aggressive behavior from the mother affected the child's temperament. This study contributes insight into the interplay between a mother's aggressive behaviors and her children's temperament. Subsequent research could delve deeper into specific factors influencing children's temperament in the ARFID case.

Abstract

Introduction: This study aimed to the development of an Islamic nursing care model to improve patient satisfaction. Methods: Cross-sectional design random sampling technique on 134 respondents, consisting of patients and nurses in the surgical inpatient room, internal medicine inpatient room, and postpartum and gynecology inpatient rooms, using simple random techniques. The variables of this study were the nursing factors, Islamic nursing care, and patient satisfaction and were collected using questionnaire. The data were collected using questionnaire in December 2021 at Islamic Hospital, Indonesia, and processed using a Smart Partial Least Squares (SmartPLS) analysis and Sommers' correlation test. Results: The Sommers' test results show significant relationship between nursing factor (nurse knowledge, nurse's attitude, nurse competence, nurse personality) and patient satisfaction; nurse knowledge (p=0.000); nurse attitude (p=0.000); nurse competence (p=0.000); nurse personality (p=0.000; α<0.05). SmartPLS test results show the nurse factor with Islamic nursing care has a strong significant influence (p value 0.000; β value 0.539; t value> 1.96). Then for Islamic nursing care with patient satisfaction, it has a very strong significant effect (p value 0.000; β value 0.753; t value> 1.96). Conclusions: Islamic nursing care as a mediator of nurse factors with patient satisfaction can be described in this study model because Islamic nursing care is a real form of care by nurses that is felt by the patient and the application of Islamic values so that the form of nursing care makes patients feel satisfied.

Abstract

Background: Managing sepsis in the emergency room presents a significant challenge, as the condition is often difficult to recognize, leading to a delay in identification and diagnosis, frequently only after the patient has reached a critical state. This study aims to analyze the correlation between lactate levels and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) scores with mortality risk in patients with sepsis: a retrospective study conducted in the emergency room of Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital, Makassar. This study follows the STROBE guidelines for observational research. Methods: This study employs a quantitative, analytical observational design with a retrospective approach. The sample consists of 321 sepsis patients diagnosed with sepsis or presenting comorbidities associated with sepsis in the Emergency Room of Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital, Makassar. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula. Purposive sampling was employed as the sampling technique, while data analysis included descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and binary logistic regression. Results: Elevated lactate levels and SOFA scores were significantly associated with increased mortality (p <0.05). Lactate levels demonstrated an odds ratio (OR) of 5.329, indicating that patients with low lactate levels were 5.3 times more likely to survive than those with high lactate levels. The SOFA score produced an OR of 10.058, suggesting that patients with lower SOFA scores had a 10.1 times greater chance of survival compared to those with higher scores. Lactate level was identified as the primary predictor of mortality. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate a significant correlation between blood lactate levels and SOFA scores with sepsis-related mortality in the Emergency Department (ED). Among these two parameters, blood lactate emerged as the most dominant predictor. These results underscore the importance of implementing early detection tools for sepsis, such as lactate testing and simplified SOFA assessments, as part of routine triage workflows, particularly at Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo General Hospital in Makassar.

Abstract

The meaning of life is considered to affect breast cancer patients positively. Finding meaning in life is key to improving well-being during and after experiencing a traumatic event such as cancer. Previous research was still rare to explore the factors affecting the meaning of life in breast cancer patients. The study aimed to analyze the factors influencing the meaning of life of breast cancer patients.  This study was an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional design. The inclusion criteria of the respondents were breast cancer patients who had obtained at least one cycle of chemotherapy. We used purposive sampling, and the total sample in this study was 135 respondents. Questionnaires were used to collect the data. Data were analysed by multivariate test, namely a linear regression test with a significance level of p ≤ 0,05. The result showed only two variables affect the meaning of life, communication of health workers and spirituality, respectively. The strongest variable was the communication of health workers.  The equation from the analysis showed that 11 % explained the phenomenon. The spirituality and communication of health workers positively affected the meaning of life. Application of therapeutic communication as well as spiritual support are needed in nurses to patients while undergoing therapy. Therefore, nurses must pay attention to spirituality and good therapeutic communication when providing patient services.

Abstract

Breast cancer has a large number of new cases and deaths in the world and Indonesia. Chemotherapy is one of the treatments chosen to treat breast cancer patients. Physical side effects can include Chemotherapy-induced Induced Nausea and Vomiting (CINV), Chemotherapy-induced Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN) and anxiety. Standard hospital care is care in which nursing actions are in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that the hospital has established for each existing service. The research method used was quasi-experimental (quasi-experiment), which was carried out with an unequal control group design. The pre-test was carried out during chemotherapy when the researcher met the respondent, and the post-test was carried out during the respondent's following chemotherapy schedule. The population in this study were breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at the chemotherapy clinic at RSD, Dr. Soebandi Jember and Rumkit Kindergarten. III Baladhika Husada Jember . The sampling method used was simple random sampling with a minimum sample size of 60 people. The results of the Paired Samples Test can be concluded that standard treatment in hospitals does not affect the level of Chemotherapy Induced Nausea and Vomiting (CINV) but does influence the incidence rate of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) and the level of anxiety in breast cancer patients with chemotherapy.

Abstract

Introduction: Hand hygiene is a simple, effective step in reducing infection rates, but is often forgotten by healthcare workers. Low hand hygiene in health workers is influenced by several factors, namely: ignorance of health workers about how hands can be contaminated and ignorance of the importance of hand hygiene in reducing the spread of infection. This study aims to explore clinical nurse counselors in hand hygiene. Method: This study used a qualitative study design with a phenomenological approach. This study involved 15 clinical nurse nurses who conducted in-depth interviews using semi-structured interview guidelines with inclusion criteria: aged 25 - 45 years, became clinical advisors in the room, working period> 8 years. Data from indepht interview results were transcribed and analyzed data using the Van Mannen analysis method. Results: Three themes were identified in this study, namely: 1) Hand hygiene knowledge, knowledge of hand hygiene is based on: an understanding of germ transmission, so that nurses are able to prevent transmission and accompanied by regulations from the implementation of hand hygiene that guide the implementation. 2) Social support, social support implementing hand hygiene arises from coworkers who provide support ranging from frequent reminders, conducting supervision to preparation of alcohol hand rub facilities on each patient's bed. and 3) Behavior, manifested compliance with hand hygiene for nurses in the prevention of HAIs by increasing personal and social routines as reflected in behavior in the prevention of HAIs. Conclusion: Clinical nurse in hand hygiene is based on knowledge, social support and behavior in implementing hand hygiene. The implication of the results of this study is information in an effort to improve compliance with hand hygiene so that meeting health needs is not only focused on meeting the needs of patients but also taking into account the risk of germ transmission.
