Abstract

UV radiation can generate ROS, thereby damaging neutrophils, leading to the uncontrolled release of elastase, and causing aging. This study intends to examine the antioxidants and anti-elastase activity of the skin of Garcinia dulcis (Roxb.) Kurz fruit in serum gel extract preparation. The methods used in this research are microwave-assisted extraction and antioxidants using the ABTS (2,2’-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) method. Three formulas were made with 100 x IC50, 200 x IC50, and 300 x IC50. The test results for the three formulas showed the best antioxidant and anti-elastase activity values in formula 3, with IC50 values of 66.26 ppm and 111.48 ppm. This indicates that the higher the extract concentration in the formulation provides better activity in the serum gel preparation. In the third formulation, evaluation observations were made on the preparation, and a pH value close to the skin’s pH was produced, namely in formula 3. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Mundu fruit peel extract has antioxidant and anti-elastase activity. The extract is applied to cosmetic preparations and still provides good antioxidant and anti-elastase activity results.

Abstract

Learning outcomes are a benchmark for the success of a learning activity. Good learning outcomes can make it easier for students to develop their potential in a certain field. Interest in becoming a makeup artist is a concentration of attention that contains elements of attention, pleasure, heart tendencies, and an unintentional desire that is active in accepting from the environment to become a makeup artist. This study aims to determine the relationship between daily makeup learning outcomes and interest in becoming a makeup artist. This research was conducted on class X students majoring in skin and hair beauty at SMKN 7 South Tangerang City, academic year 2023/2024. The research method used is quantitative associative with a correlational approach. The population in this study is all 77 students of class X with a sampling technique, namely total sampling. The instrument used to obtain interest data was measured using a questionnaire with a Likert scale. Learning outcomes use secondary data, namely grades from daily make-up subjects obtained by students in odd semesters. The data analysis method uses Spearman correlation. Data analysis was assisted through SPSS software version 29. The research results obtained a significant value of 0.06 > 0.05, which means that learning outcomes do not have a significant relationship with interest in becoming a makeup artist..

This research utilizes a quantitative method with a correlational design. The population consists of 32 seventh-grade students at SMPN 138 Terbuka Cakung 3 Jakarta, with the sample selected using Total Sampling, meaning the sample size equals the population. Data collection was conducted using questionnaires to measure self-confidence and secondary data to assess the learning outcomes in the life skills course of facial makeup. The data were analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment correlation coefficient test with the aid of SPSS software. The results indicate a significant relationship between self-confidence and student learning outcomes, with a correlation coefficient of 0,366 and a p-value of 0,165 (p > 0,05). The majority of students have self-confidence in the moderate category, with an interval of 103-111 and a percentage of 41%, while the learning outcomes fall within the interval of 67-75 with 44% also in the moderate category. The conclusion of this study is that self-confidence plays a significant role in enhancing students' learning outcomes. Therefore, educators are encouraged to pay more attention to factors that can boost students' self-confidence to achieve better learning outcomes. Abstract

In hand and foot care, vocational education often faces challenges related to student engagement and skill mastery. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a combined instructional approach using animated video media and the talking stick method to enhance practical learning outcomes. Employing a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest approach, participants were vocational students (n = 60) specializing in beauty and wellness courses at a local training center. They were divided into two groups: an experimental group receiving animated video lessons augmented by collaborative discussions using the talking stick, and a control group receiving conventional lecture-based instruction. Data were gathered through standardized skill assessments, knowledge-based quizzes, and focus group interviews. Quantitative results showed a statistically significant improvement (p < 0.05) in both theoretical understanding and practical proficiency in the experimental group compared to the control group. Qualitative findings revealed heightened engagement and self-confidence among students participating in the interactive sessions. These outcomes suggest that integrating animated video, which provides clear, step-by-step demonstrations, with the talking stick approach, which ensures equitable participation and fosters collaboration, can substantially enrich vocational learning experiences. This study highlights the potential for innovative, interactive teaching methods to improve student outcomes in skill-based disciplines, recommending broader adoption of multimedia-supported and discussion-driven strategies in vocational curricula.

Abstract

The skin serves as a protective barrier against ultraviolet (UV) radiation. However, exposure to UV radiation can lead to various skin problems, including changes in the dermis. To prevent UV-induced damage, antioxidants and anti-elastase agents are needed to protect the skin from oxidative stress. This study aims to evaluate the antioxidant and anti-elastase activities of Mundu fruit extract (Garcinia dulcis (Roxb.) Kurz) and to formulate a peel-off gel mask using the concentrated extract. Antioxidant activity was assessed using the FRAP and ABTS methods, while anti-elastase activity was determined by measuring the release of p-nitroaniline from a substrate degraded by the elastase enzyme. The results showed that the IC50 value for antioxidant activity using the ABTS method is 29.57 ppm 0.72, and the FRAP value was 185.02 10.23 AAE/g. The anti-elastase activity showed IC50 of 82.21 ppm. Three peel-off gel mask formulations were developed, with Formula 3 (containing extract at 200 x IC50). showing the best performance. These findings suggest that the thick Mundu fruit extract, which tested positive for phenolic compounds, exhibits promising antioxidant and anti-elastase activities and is suitable for use in topical formulations.

Abstract

This study aims to see the relationship between knowledge of mercury content and purchasing decisions for beauty products in class XI students of SMK Negeri 27 Jakarta. The population and sample in this study were class XI students of the Beauty and Spa Program of SMK Negeri 27 Jakarta in the 2024/2025 school year who used beauty products as many as 66 students. The method used is quantitative associative with total sampling technique. Data were collected through an online questionnaire using a Guttman scale for the knowledge variable and a Likert scale for the purchasing decision variable. The results showed that students' knowledge level regarding mercury content was in the moderate category (72.7%) and the decision to purchase beauty products was also in the moderate category (43.9%). The Pearson correlation test resulted in a correlation value of -0.045 with a significance of 0.718 (p > 0.05), which indicates that there is no significant relationship between knowledge of mercury content and purchasing decisions. This finding indicates that students purchasing decisions are more influenced by other factors such as peer influence, trends, advertisements, not solely due to the level of knowledge about product content.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between Instagram social media usage and consumer interest in hairstylist services from students at Jakarta State University. The background of this research is based on the increasing development of information technology, particularly the use of social media as an effective digital promotional tool. The method used was a quantitative approach with a correlational survey technique. The sample in this study consisted of 100 respondents who were active followers of Instagram accounts of students providing hairdressing services, selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument was an online questionnaire with a Likert scale that included indicators of context, connection, communication, and collaboration for the Instagram variable, and indicators of interest, income, access, and qualifications for the consumer interest variable. The results of the Pearson product-moment correlation test showed a very strong relationship between Instagram usage and consumer interest, with a correlation coefficient of 0.816. This demonstrates that the more optimal the use of Instagram social media, the higher the consumer interest in student hairstylist services. Context and communication indicators were the dominant aspects that shaped interest, through the presentation of attractive portfolios and direct interactions such as direct messages and comments. This study emphasizes the importance of digital content and communication strategies in attracting market interest, particularly in the beauty services industry
