Abstract

Feedback informs students about their language performance, assisting them in grasping their abilities as well as opportunities for improvement. The importance of feedback in educational settings is well established, with research highlighting its ability to guide learners, build up positive behaviours, and create a supportive learning environment. The purpose of this study is to find out how feedback affects the motivation of EFL students in vocational high schools. The method of this research was a descriptive qualitative design. The results show that feedback in English language learning serves as a catalyst for students' self-improvement and motivation. Understanding individual preferences, providing personalized feedback, and creating a supportive learning environment are essential for maximizing the impact of feedback on students' learning outcomes. While responses to feedback may vary among individuals, there is a common theme of dedication to continuous improvement and a willingness to overcome challenges. Positive and constructive feedback generally leads to increased motivation, fostering a growth mindset among students.

Abstract

The Merdeka Study Program is part of the Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy initiated by the Minister of Education and Culture, Nadiem Makarim. Students are given the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills, both hard and soft, through various off-campus activities. In the Informatics Engineering Study Program at UHAMKA, this program is designed to enrich learning experiences and enhance practical skills relevant to the industry. The program's effectiveness evaluation is conducted through a survey of 41 students to collect data on their experiences and perceptions. The aim is to measure the extent to which the MBKM program positively impacts student learning. The research methodology uses the K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) algorithm to classify program effectiveness data based on several performance indicators. The analyzed data includes survey results from students who participated in the MBKM program. The research findings show that the KNN classification model has an accuracy of 93.65%, with an average precision of 94.08% and recall of 93.65%, indicating a high level of accuracy in classifying program effectiveness. Most students reported that the MBKM program is very effective in enhancing their skills and knowledge, although some felt neutral or found it less effective. This study concludes that the MBKM program is generally effective in achieving its goals, although improvements and adjustments are still needed to optimize its benefits for all students

Abstract

This study investigates the potential of e-portfolios to enhance vocabulary mastery and speaking ability in non-English as Foreign Language  (EFL) students. Specifically, it explores the impact of e-portfolios on  vocabulary acquisition, speaking fluency, and pronunciation accuracy in a non-EFL setting. The study employs a mixed-methods approach. A  quantitative design with pre- and post-intervention tests measures vocabulary  knowledge and speaking skills. A qualitative strand uses interviews and document analysis to explore students' perceptions and experiences with e-portfolios. Sixty non-EFL students are randomly assigned to an experimental  group using e-portfolios and a control group receiving traditional instruction. Quantitative data is analysed using statistical tests to compare pre- and post-intervention performance between groups. Qualitative data is thematically analysed to identify emergent themes related to students' experiences with e-portfolios. The study expects to demonstrate that e-portfolios can effectively enhance vocabulary mastery and speaking ability in non-EFL students. Findings will contribute to the understanding of e-portfolio implementation in non-EFL contexts and inform pedagogical practices for improving vocabulary  speaking skills. This study stands out by investigating the efficacy of e-portfolios in a non-EFL setting, addressing a gap in existing research. Additionally, the mixed-methods approach provides a comprehensive understanding of the impact of e-portfolios on both learning outcomes and learner experiences.
