Abstract

Sexual education is a crucial aspect in shaping the character and awareness of university students regarding ethics and moral responsibility in personal and social life. However, the implementation of sexual education in higher education institutions often failas to meet the diverse needs of students, who come from different backgrounds, levels of understanding, and learning needs. Thus tudy aims to anakyze the need for differentiated instructional materials in sexual education for university students, focusing on differentiation in terms of learning readiness, interests, learning styles, levels of understanding. The research method used is a needs survey involving 46 students from the PGMI study programs, using a questionnaire to collect data. The results show that although most students have previously studied the material, their understanding remains at varying level – some high, some moderate, and most low. On the other hand, the majority of students expressed a high level of interest in sexual education from an Islamic prespective, yet demonstrated diverse preferences in strategies, media, and types of learning tasks. These findings highlight the importance of developing instructional materials that can accommodate students diverse characteristic through a differentiated approach, in term of content, procces, and product. Thus, the development of differentiated instructional materials will not only enhance the effectiveness of learning, but also encourage active student engagement and strengtrhen their understanding of Islamic values related to sexual issues in a reflective, responsible, and applicable manner.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the pedagogical skills of students in the Primary School Teacher Education (PGMI) Study Program in designing Deep Learning–based lesson plans (RPP). The program was implemented to address the urgent need for prospective teachers to meet the demands of the Merdeka Curriculum, which requires meaningful, student-centered, and competency-based learning. Many PGMI students still struggle to integrate Deep Learning principles into lesson planning, especially in formulating measurable objectives, selecting active strategies, and designing higher-order thinking assessments. The program involved 15 PGMI students as primary participants. Using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, the program consisted of three stages: needs analysis, training, and mentoring. The needs analysis identified gaps in students’ understanding of lesson plan components. The training introduced theoretical foundations and practical models of Deep Learning–oriented lesson planning, while the mentoring phase provided guided practice in developing complete RPPs. Students contributed actively through reflective discussions, prototype development, and peer feedback. The results show a notable improvement in students’ pedagogical competence, reflected in an increase from an average pretest score of 31.5% to a posttest score of 43.2%, indicating an 11.7% gain. Deep Learning in this program refers to a pedagogical approach emphasizing conceptual depth, problem-solving, reflection, and higher-order thinking. Overall, the program strengthened students’ readiness to become professional and adaptive teachers capable of designing learning aligned with the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of using Flipcard Mini media based on visual storytelling on students’ learning outcomes in the Pancasila Education subject for fourth-grade students at MI Al As’ad Brambang Jombang. Flipcard Mini is designed to help students understand Pancasila values through two-sided illustrations that construct simple visual narratives. This research employed a quasi-experimental design using a one-group pretest–posttest model involving 30 students. Data were collected through learning outcome tests and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, indicated that the data were not normally distributed. The results show a significant increase between the pretest and posttest scores, demonstrating that Flipcard Mini effectively enhances students’ understanding of Pancasila concepts. These findings indicate that visual storytelling media can create more engaging, interactive, and meaningful learning experiences, making it a suitable alternative instructional medium for elementary school Pancasila Education.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the integration of the thoughts of Hadratussyaikh KH. Muhammad Hasyim Asy’ari into the curriculum of the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Study Program at Hasyim Asy’ari University, Tebuireng. Using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis, the research highlights the actualisation of pesantren values inherited from KH. Hasyim Asy’ari within the context of contemporary Islamic higher education. The main focus is on three core pillars: religious moderation, character development, and the preservation of pesantren traditions, which form the foundation of a sustainable Islamic education vision. The findings indicate that Hadratussyaikh’s ideas—such as the importance of manners (adab), sincerity, accessible scholarship, and a moderate religious spirit—have been integrated into both the curriculum and learning practices. These values not only shape a religious and inclusive academic atmosphere but also strengthen students' identities as agents of change rooted in traditional Islamic scholarship. This integration is reflected in course content and teaching methods, as well as students' religious and social activities, all directed toward forming academically excellent individuals with strong morals and adaptability to contemporary challenges. Thus, this study affirms that KH. Hasyim Asy’ari’s ideas are both relevant and strategic in formulating a model of Islamic religious education that bridges tradition and modernity. The results are expected to serve as a reference for the development of contextual and transformative pesantren-based curricula

Abstract

Qur’anic literacy encompasses the ability to read, write, understand, and translate the Qur’an as an integral dimension of religious literacy in Islamic education. Strengthening Qur’anic literacy cannot be separated from teachers’ pedagogical roles, particularly in pesantren-based schools where the Qur’an is culturally positioned at the center of learning. However, in practice, students continue to face various difficulties in reading and understanding the Qur’an, which necessitates systematic and sustained pedagogical interventions by teachers. This study aims to analyze teachers’ efforts in strengthening students’ Qur’anic literacy at SMP Al-Furqan Madrasatul Qur’an Tebuireng Jombang. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the principal, the vice principal for curriculum affairs, Qur’an teachers, and students. The findings reveal that Qur’anic literacy is strengthened through structured learning practices, including daily habituation of Qur’anic reading using the talaqqi method, recitation assessment (setoran), individualized mentoring based on students’ abilities, teachers’ role modeling in religious practices, and continuous recitation evaluation. These findings underscore that Qur’anic literacy is not merely the outcome of religious routines, but is shaped by teachers’ systematic and adaptive pedagogical interventions within the framework of pesantren-based Islamic education.

Abstract

This study aims to critically analyze the problems of kitab kuning learning from the perspective of pesantren pedagogy by highlighting linguistic, motivational, methodological, and learning-environment dimensions. The study of kitab kuning as the primary academic tradition in Islamic boarding schools holds a strategic position in the transmission of turats (classical Islamic scholarship) and the formation of students’ Islamic intellectual reasoning. However, in practice, the learning process faces various challenges, particularly in mastering instrumental sciences (nahwu–sharaf), low learning motivation among some students, limited methodological variation that remains predominantly teacher centered, and environmental factors that influence concentration and instructional effectiveness. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design in the pesantren context, utilizing observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, analyzed through a descriptive-critical framework. The findings reveal that linguistic barriers constitute the dominant factor affecting text comprehension, while traditional instructional models such as bandongan and sorogan have not been fully complemented by reflective and participatory pedagogical approaches. Students’ motivation is influenced by their perception of the relevance of kitab kuning to contemporary needs, while the pesantren learning environment plays an ambivalent role as a space for character formation and, at the same time, a challenge in academic management. Critically, this study affirms that kitab kuning learning retains strong epistemological and cultural value, yet requires pedagogical revitalization through the integration of contextual approaches, strengthening of textual literacy, and diversification of instructional strategies.

Abstract

Critical thinking is a cognitive process involving the ability to analyze, evaluate, and question information before accepting it as truth, enabling individuals to formulate reasoned opinions and make sound decisions based on credible sources. In the pesantren context, one strategic effort to cultivate critical thinking among santri is through participation in Lajnah Bahtsul Masail activities, commonly known as Bahtsul Masail. This study aims to examine: (1) the process of implementing critical thinking in Bahtsul Masail activities, and (2) the supporting and inhibiting factors influencing its implementation. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation involving the pesantren caretaker, LBM administrators, and santri. Data analysis was conducted using source triangulation techniques to ensure validity and credibility. The findings reveal that the implementation of critical thinking in Bahtsul Masail requires santri to identify problems, analyze classical Islamic texts, construct arguments, and formulate solutions to contemporary issues. Supporting factors include adequate facilities, motivational reinforcement regarding the importance of Bahtsul Masail, students’ enthusiasm, routine classroom deliberations, and structured LBM management. Inhibiting factors consist of limited student motivation, insufficient literacy in classical texts and Arabic grammar, and lack of coordination among LBM administrators, which may reduce the effectiveness of the program.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Active Learning in the teaching of classical Islamic texts (kitab kuning) within the Takhasus Program at Markaz Arabiyah Pare and its implications for pesantren pedagogy. Employing a qualitative field research design, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that while the epistemic structure of classical texts—such as grammatical analysis (nahwu-sharaf) and the reading of unvocalized texts—remains preserved, instructional strategies are implemented in a participatory manner through small group discussions, student presentations, and the “everyone is a teacher here” technique. This approach encourages students’ intellectual engagement in reading, analyzing, and articulating textual meanings independently. The study demonstrates that the integration of Active Learning does not dismantle the pesantren tradition but revitalizes its pedagogical practices into a more dialogical and constructive model. It highlights the methodological flexibility of pesantren education in adapting student-centered learning approaches while maintaining scholarly authority and ethical values of knowledge transmission.
