Abstract

Skin cancer is a disease that can cause the loss of the ability to regenerate and protect the skin normally. The types of skin cancer that are known are melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer. Non-melanoma Basal cell carcinoma is a malignant neoplasm originating from non-keratinizing cells in the basal layer of the skin's epidermis. The treatment itself is carried out through the application of immunotherapy, namely the use of drug therapy Programmed Death Ligand 1 (PD-L1). This study aims to see the effectiveness of PD-L1 Therapy as a treatment for basal cell carcinoma. The focus of the study of the article is the integument system, skin cancer, non-melanoma basal cell carcinoma, and the effect of anti-PD-L1 use. The research method used is a literature review from various sources. Skin cancer Basal cell carcinoma attacks the basal cells of the epidermis, causing disruption. Attacks slowly, but when ignored will spread wider and more severe. Through PD-L1 therapy by binding to PD-1 receptors on immune cells, it causes the activation of T lymphocytes as anti-cancer cells in the body that suppress growth while actively controlling tumor cells. Through the use of PD-L1 therapy in treating cancer that attacks basal cells, it will suppress growth, destroy and shrink cancer cells, and increase the body's immunity against cancer cells.

Abstract

Lake Toba is one of the industrial waste disposal sites around the location. Copper and dyes are pollutants that are toxic and harmful to organisms. Bioremediation using indigenous bacteria isolated from polluted sites is a promising solution to overcome environmental pollution. Bacteria that have multi-resistance to copper and dyes are expected to increase the efficiency of industrial waste treatment. This study aims to: 1) isolate and characterize copper-resistant bacteria, 2) determine the level of resistance of bacterial isolates to copper, 3) test the resistance of bacteria to dyes. Physiological characterization of bacterial isolates was carried out by observing colony and cell morphology, also Gram staining. Molecular characterization was carried out by analysis of the 16S rDNA gene. The copper resistance level was tested by determining the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration MIC value. The dye resistance test was carried out by growing bacteria on a medium containing 100 ppm of dye. There were eight isolates of copper-resistant bacteria with MIC values ranging from 3-7 mM CuSO4 with code as DT1.1; DT1.2; DT1.3; DT1.4; DT1.5; DT2.1; DT2.2; and DT3.1. The three highly resistant bacteria were strains DT1.1 and DT1.3 which were identified as Lysinibacillus macroides and strain DT2.1 was identified as Acinetobacter junii with an MIC value of 7mM CuSO4, respectively. The results of the resistance test to dyes showed that only A. junii strain DT2.1 was resistant to 100 ppm Methylene Blue and Basic Fuschine.  Key words: indigenous bacteria; Lake Toba; multi-resistence; dye; copper.

Abstract

Maleo bird is one of the unique animals of the aves class which is included in endemic animals in Indonesia. The Maleo bird is almost endangered due to predators and irresponsible behavior of local people. One of the conservation efforts carried out by the government is contained in Law No. 5 of 1990 and Government Regulation No. 7 of 1999 concerning the protection or conservation of Maleo birds. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the morphological and physiological characteristics of the Maleo bird (Macrochepalon maleo), the anatomy of the Maleo bird (Macrochepalon maleo), the relationship of the uniqueness of the behavior of the Maleo bird (Macrochepalon maleo)  with the morphology, anatomy, and physiology of the Maleo bird, as well as conservation efforts of the Maleo bird (Macrochepalon  maleo). The method used is a literature review by reading various books, journals and papers and other publications in accordance with the research topic. The results of research that have been conducted show that the morphology, anatomy, and physiology of the Maleo bird are closely related to the behavior of the Maleo bird. The Maleo bird uses a crest located on its head to detect heat when digging an egg nest. Maleo bird legs equipped with sharp hooves can make Maleo birds able to survive in coastal forests. Maleo birds are monogamous animals, namely animals that are loyal to their partners. The advice that can be given through this literature review is that the community must have awareness to take care of the Maleo bird as a form of accountability for the mandate given by God to humans. Key words: Aves; endemic; conservation; maleo; morphology

Abstract

ABSTRACT. The biological method for silver nanoparticle synthesis emphasizes green synthesis, which is faster, environmentally safer, facile, energy-efficient, and cost-effective. It provides good alternatives to physical and chemical methods. In this research, we have synthesized silver nanoparticles using D. vitifolius ethanolic extract. The 38 natural compounds of flavonoid, phenolic or polyphenol compositions have been determined by LC-MS/MS-QTOF which is carried out using UNIFI software equipped with a mass spectrum library of active substances from natural ingredients from the Waters database. Silver nanoparticle (Dv-AgNP) was characterized by using TEM and SEM where the average diameter of nanoparticle was seen <100 nm and confirmed by PSA analysis that the Z-average is 62.73 ± 0.71 nm. EDS spectrum confirmed the silver element as a major element of the particles. PI value of Dv-AgNP is 0.557, while the zeta potential is -17.37 ± 1.53 mV. Dv-AgNP can inhibit the growth of P. aeruginosa (amoxicillin resistant) with an inhibition zone of 15.83 ± 2.36 mm, and K. pneumoniae with an inhibition zone is 10.03 ± 0.55 mm. These are moderate inhibitory activities. The antioxidant result of the Dv-AgNP suspension solution shows that the IC50 is 0.58 mM. The IC50 of the crude extract is 752 ppm and is categorized as very weak antioxidant activity. Keywords: Antibacterial; D. vitifolius; silver nanoparticle.

Abstract

The post-harvest fungi is one of the greatest cause of various diseases. Particularly, in fungus that infects seeds, the toxic substance called aflatoxin is found. This has caused us to wonder: Has fungi been pathogenic fungi since the beginning of creation? The purpose of this research is to study: 1) The Place of Fungi in God’s Original Creation and the Origin of Pathogenic Fungi, 2) Characterization of post-harvest fungus on corn seeds, 3) Aspergillus sp.’s Structure as Proof of God’s Wonderful Original Creation and Providence, and 4) The factors that contribute to the growth of fungi in post-harvest corn seeds and our responsibility. We conclude that in the beginning, fungi were a part of God’s originally good and perfect creation. These fungi were created by God with the structure and function to support its operation in fulfilling God’s creative purpose. The complex structure of Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus that infected the corn seeds showed God’s providence after the Fall. Pathogenic fungi were the result of the Fall of man into sin. Their growth is caused by the failure to give proper care to the crops. But this should not discourage us since the Bible tells us that God is continually working to restore His creation. Therefore, we are called to be stewards of His creation, to develop and preserve whatever is entrusted in our hands, including the crops for God’s glory and under His authority until He has fully renewed and restored everything.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Jamur pasca panen merupakan salah satu penyebab terbesar timbulnya berbagai penyakit, khususnya disebabkan oleh jamur yang menginfeksi biji-bijian dan menghasilkan substansi beracun disebut dengan aflatoksin.

Abstract

Drinking water is a fundamental necessity for human survival. In an era of advancing technology and busy lifestyles, bottled water, refillable water, and the use of water dispensers have become convenient choices. However, safe drinking water must be free from bacterial contaminants and chemicals. This research aims to analyze bacterial colonies from various sources of drinking water, such as bottled gallon water, hot water dispensers, and coldwater dispensers. The research results reveal that cold water dispensers have the highest number of bacterial colonies, totaling 1702, while hot water dispensers and gallon water contain only 2 and 13 bacterial colonies, respectively. Characteristics of the bacterial colonies in all samples include a yellow color, irregular margins, round shape, flat surface, and a hazy optical appearance. Additionally, Gram staining results indicate that the majority of bacterial isolates are Gram-negative, accounting for 76.92%. Factors influencing bacterial growth in drinking water from dispensers include insufficient cleanliness and inadequate sterilization during the installation of gallon water on the dispenser.

Abstract

The teacher's guiding role is to guide students in the knowledge of truth to serve the Lord and others.  In fact, Christian schools today only show the role of teachers who focus on the application of science, resulting in a decline in student character. The purpose of writing is to analyze the role of the teacher as a guide in the formation of student character in terms of Christian educational philosophy with three focuses of study, namely Christian education philosophy about the role of the teacher as a guide, theological studies about the formation of student character and the role of the teacher as a guide in the formation of student character. The method used is a literature review. The philosophy of Christian education encourages Christian teachers to shape students' character according to biblical truth. The axiological view shows the Bible as a teaching foundation in leading students to a knowledge of true truth. The role of the teacher as a guide must first have good character so that students can emulate and understand good character according to biblical truth. The teacher as a guide shows character that reflects Christian values and makes the Bible as a guiding basis and guide in shaping the character of students. The Christian teacher recognizes his or her existence as God's co-worker to guide and transform students experiencing character decline. The advice given is that Christian teachers can instill biblical values in students in every lesson in shaping student character.
