Abstract

Full-thickness wound are areas damage of skin associated with loss of epidermis and dermis. The wound healing mechanism consists proliferation, migration and remodeling. Hypoxic conditional medium of mesenchymal stem cells (HMSCs-CM) contains lots of soluble molecules, such as protein growth factor and cytokine anti-inflammation. The soluble molecule of HMSCs-CM plays a critical role in wound healing by upregulation of VEGF and collagen synthesis. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of HMSCs-CM on VEGF and collagen concentrations in rats with incised wounds. The methods of this study were an experimental animal study with post-test only control group design was performed involving 24 Wistar rats. The rats were randomized into four groups consisting of sham, control and two treatment groups (gel of HMSCs-CM at doses of 200 μL and 400 μL). The VEGF levels and collagen density were analyses using ELISA assay and Masson-trichome specific staining, respectively. One-way ANOVA and Post Hoc LSD were used to analyses the data. The results of this study showed that a VEGF levels was significant increased on day 6 with doses-dependent manner. Interestingly, the VEGF levels gradual decrease on day 9. In addition, the decreased of VEGF levels on day 9 in this study in line with our findings in which we found there was a trend in the decreased of collagen density, it indicated the completion of remodeling phase and there has been an acceleration in wound healing. This study demonstrated that HMSCs-CM were able to regulate VEGF levels and collagen synthesis in accelerate wound healing. The role of HMSCs-CM stimulate cutaneous wound healing should be clarified further. Keywords: hypoxic conditional medium of mesenchymal stem cells (HMSCs-CM), vascular endothelial growth factor, collagen synthesis, paracrine factors

Apart from that, it has also been proven that basil ethanol extract has very strong antioxidant activity. The aim of this community service is to disseminate research results regarding the content of active substances in basil plants which have potential for health. Banjardowo sub-district is a village supported by the Faculty of Medicine, Sultan Agung Islamic University, so this location was chosen to disseminate the results of research on basil plants considering the many benefits for health and increasing mothers' knowledge. The counseling method used was the lecture and group discussion method, 23 people from PKK cadres from BanjarDowo sub-district took part in the counseling, 16 people aged 41-60 years and 7 people aged 25-40 years. The results of the analysis of participants' pretest and posttest scores showed that there was an increase in the participants' average score on the posttest, namely 6.70 ± 1.8, where before the counseling activities began, the participants' average score only reached 4.78 ± 1.9. Statistical analysis shows that there is a significant difference between the participants' pretest and posttest scores with a p value = 0.000. By providing counseling to PKK cadres in the Banjardowo sub-district about the potential of basil plants for health, the results showed that there was a value in increasing participants' knowledge before being given the counseling and after the counseling.

Abstract

Corona Virus Disease 2019 or commonly abbreviated as COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by SARS-CoV-2. People with COVID-19 may experience fever, dry cough, and difficulty breathing. With the outbreak, the government gives appealed to the community to leave the house as necessary, work from home and maintain health. Salary village is a village located in Demak Regency, Central Java. Public knowledge about the COVID 19 pandemic is still limited, most people do not know that nutrition and physical exercise can improve the body's immune system and prevent COVID 19 disease. Community service is carried out in Gaji Village due to low public knowledge about nutrition and physical exercise (exercise) during the Covid 19 pandemic. Activities were carried out by providing pre and post-tests, counseling to increase public knowledge, and measuring Body Mass Index with 23 participants. Knowledge about Covid 19 increased but not very significantly while increasing knowledge about nutrition and physical exercise experienced a significant increase among the pre and post-test participants. The results of the BMI measurement of 23 respondents had an ideal body weight of 9 people (39.13 %), overweight 12 people (52.17%), and 2 people obese (8.70%). BMI ideal body weight 39.13%; overweight 52.17% and 8.70% fat.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Rectal cancer is a type of malignancy with a higher rate of local recurrence compared to colon cancer. Various therapies such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy are commonly used for treatment. Monitoring the effectiveness of these therapies can be supported by clinical parameters such as Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) levels and nutritional status measured by Body Mass Index (BMI). Aims: This study aimed to examine the differences in CEA levels and nutritional status among rectal cancer patients receiving different types of therapies. Methods: This was an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 56 patients with stage III rectal cancer at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital Semarang during the period of 2018-2024. Data were collected from medical records and included patients who received either surgery + chemotherapy (n = 33) or surgery + chemotherapy + radiotherapy (n = 23). CEA levels were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test, and nutritional status was analyzed using the Independent Sample T-Test. Result: The results showed no statistically significant difference in CEA levels between the two therapy groups (p = 0.405). However, a significant difference was found in nutritional status, with patients undergoing radiotherapy showing lower BMI values compared to those without radiotherapy (p = 0.000). Conclusion: CEA levels did not significantly differ between types of therapy in stage III rectal cancer patients. However, radiotherapy was associated with a significant decline in nutritional status. These findings highlight the importance of integrating nutritional monitoring in the management of rectal cancer patients receiving combined therapy
