Abstract

This study aims to identify the larvicidal potential of Eleutherine palmifolia (Dayak onion) and Allium sativum (garlic), which are rich in flavonoids and known to possess insecticidal properties. The study used a pure experimental design with a post-test control group. Aedes aegypti larvae were tested with Eleutherine palmifolia and Allium sativum extracts at concentrations of 0.6%, 1.2%, and 1.8%, respectively, along with abate as a positive control. Larval mortality was monitored for 24 hours with four replicates. The results showed that Allium sativum was highly effective at all concentrations (99–100% mortality), even at the 0.6% concentration. In contrast, Eleutherine palmifolia exhibited varying effectiveness, with mortality rates of 67%, 67%, and 84% at concentrations of 0.6%, 1.2%, and 1.8%, respectively. These findings confirm that Allium sativum has superior, consistent, and stable larvicidal effectiveness even at low doses, making it a promising alternative for mosquito control and dengue prevention.

Abstract

Introduction: The early loss of primary teeth denotes the loss of teeth in the oral cavity before the typical loss timeframe. The early loss of primary molars markedly impacts masticatory function. Children of elementary school age frequently encounter dental and oral health issues. This study aims to determine the correlation between the premature loss of primary molar teeth and variations in body mass index (BMI) among 7-9-year-old students at Public Elementary School (SDN) 003 Sungai Kunjang. Material and Methods: This study employed an analytical approach with a prospective cohort design. The demographic comprises students aged 7 to 9 years at SDN 003 Sungai Kunjang, Samarinda City, with 233 respondents. Sampling was conducted via a non-probability purposive sampling method. This study utilized oral diagnostic instruments, manual scales, stadiometers, stationery, identity questions, and examination forms. Results and Discussions: Bivariate data analysis employing the chi-square test on the early loss of primary molars and alterations in student BMI indicated that respondents with early loss of primary molars were 8.824 times more likely to exhibit a reduction in BMI than those without early loss of primary molars. Conclusion: The study finds that a correlation exists between the early loss of primary molars and alterations in BMI among 7-9-year-old students at SDN 003 Sungai Kunjang

Abstract

Abstract: Hypertension is an increase in blood pressure that causes the heart to work extra to pump blood. This causes the arteries around the kidney blood vessels to narrow and risks disrupting kidney function. People with hypertension are advised to take anti-hypertensive drugs to normalize blood pressure. Therefore, compliance in taking these drugs is required. Based on Riskesdas data in 2018, there were 32.3% of hypertensive patients who did not regularly take anti-hypertensive drugs and 13.3% did not consume them. One of the indicators used to determine impaired renal function is creatinine examination. This study aims to determine the description of serum creatinine levels in hypertensive patients who take anti-hypertensive drugs in the working area of the Telaga Dewa Health Center, Bengkulu City. This study uses descriptive method to obtain the results of the description of serum creatinine levels in hypertensive patients who take anti-hypertensive drugs in the working area of the Telaga Dewa Health Center, Bengkulu City. The results showed that out of 36 respondents, 8 people (22.2%) had high creatinine levels, 23 people (63.9%) had normal creatinine levels, and 4 people (13.9%) had low creatinine levels. Based on the research conducted, it can be concluded that there are a small proportion of samples that have high creatinine levels, most samples have normal creatinine and a small proportion have low creatinine levels. Keywords: Hypertension, Creatinine, Drug Anti Hypertension

Abstract

Background : Research has identified several plants that have potential larvicidal properties, notably Eleutherine bulbosa (Dayak onion) and Allium sativum (garlic), both of which are rich in flavonoids. Flavonoids are known insecticides, thus making these plants promising candidates to control mosquito populations and reduce the risk of dengue transmission. Objective : This study aims to evaluate the larvicidal efficacy of extracts from Dayak onion and garlic in lethal ovitraps. Research Methods/ Implementation Methods : This study used a true experimental design with a post-test only control group. The samples used were Aedes aegypti larvae. The independent variables were larvicidal concentrations of dayak onion and garlic (0.6%, 1.2%, 1.8%) and abate as positive control. The dependent variable was mosquito larvae mortality rate. The experiment was replicated four times. Mosquito larvae were monitored and examined at intervals of 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, and 24 hours. Results : The average mortality of Aedes mosquito larvae on exposure to Dayak onion is not better than exposure to garlic, with an average mortality of Dayak onion 0.6% (71%), 1.2% (87%) and 1.8% (75%). Meanwhile, the effectiveness of garlic was almost the same in the three concentrations tested, which was around 99-100%. Conclusion/Lesson Learned : The garlic used was highly effective in killing mosquito larvae, even at the lowest concentration (0.6%). These results show that garlic has the potential to be a stable and consistent larvicidal agent, effective at low doses without requiring an increase in concentration to increase effectiveness.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition where children under five years old have a nutritional status based on their height or length-for-age z-score less than -2SD, categorized as stunted, and categorized as severely stunted if the z-score is below -3SD. Many factors can affect the severity of stunting, not only internal factors but also external ones. Environmental conditions, including the home environment, can influence stunting, which can be assessed through a healthy home score. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between the healthy home score and its impact on the degree of stunting in children. This analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach used data from 42 stunted children from all Posyandu in Lok Bahu during the measurement period in June 2024. Statistical analysis used the Spearman correlation test, and if the p-value is <0.05, a significant correlation was found. The results showed that there were 27 boys and 15 girls. Children aged 12 to 23 months dominated, accounting for 12 out of 42 children. The relationship between the resident behavior score and the degree of stunting showed a p-value of 0.01 and r = 0.36. It was concluded that, only resident behavior had a significant relationship with the degree of stunting with positive correlation.
