Abstract

This study aims to describe the ability of mathematical reasoning in solving story problems for students of the Language and Social Studies specialization program. The approach in this study is descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this study are students who have high mathematical abilities in the Language and Social Studies specialization program in Class XI SMA Negeri 7 Malang. The data collection techniques used are tests, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis is carried out through 3 stages, namely data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Based on the results of data analysis, the following findings were obtained. In the sensemaking process, learners are equally inclined to represent visual and symbolic forms. In the conjectturing process, language subjects have linguistic intelligence, while social studies subjects have intrapersonal intelligence. In  the convincing process, the subject of Language corresponds to a predetermined settlement strategy but there are errors in the calculation process and tend to use the right brain. While the subject of IPS corresponds to a predetermined settlement strategy and is not written down the process of calculating it but the results are correct and tend to use the right brain. In  the reflecting process, the Language subject reevaluates the completion result but is less sure, while the IPS subject reevaluates the completion result and is confident so that the completion result is correct. In the process  of generalising,  the subject of Language generalizes conclusions using words but incorrectly. Meanwhile, the subject of IPS generalizes conclusions correctly and uses words in writing down the conclusions of the answers. Based on the results of the study, language subjects are known to have poor mathematical reasoning skills, which can perform all indicators but there are errors in the stages of the indicators. Meanwhile, IPS subjects have good mathematical reasoning abilities by fulfilling all stages and indicators of mathematical reasoning ability

Abstract

Mathematics anxiety is an obstacle for students in carrying out mathematics learning, especially there are still students who think mathematics is a difficult and boring subject. The ability to understand mathematical concepts of each student is different. There are several influencing factors, one of which is the anxiety experienced by students when learning mathematics. Therefore, mathematics is one of the important lessons to be learned, not only students at school but also students who are studying in Islamic boarding schools. Some of the knowledge that students learn in Islamic boarding schools also requires mathematics. For example, when studying the science of zakat distribution, Faraid science, and the like. The students have applied the linkage of mathematical concepts with Islamic concepts studied by students in Islamic boarding schools. In this study, the data collection method used was a literature study. This method was used to obtain additional literature data from reference books regarding mathematics anxiety towards students. In fact, mathematics is a basic science that is important for the advancement of science and technology, and the concepts in learning mathematics are used in everyday life. The author tries to offer a solution to reduce the level of anxiety of students towards mathematics by conducting learning that integrates the Qur'an with mathematics using the QURMATICA method as a solution can be used to play and learn mathematics and to encourage students' enthusiasm in learning mathematics and students can reduce their mathematics anxiety.

Abstract

This article is discussed about the application of Digital Game Based Learning (DGBL) learning using Gimkit as a learning medium. The problem that underlies the application of this learning is the lack of problem-solving skills in students so that it has an impact on low learning outcomes. This can be seen from the calculation of the average score of PTS and PAS, where the number of students who get scores above the minimum completeness criteria (KKM = 75) is only 13 students or 39.4% of the total number of students, namely 33. In addition, the average score obtained by students is also still low at 68.6. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to improve problem-solving skills in grade 8A students of SMPN 2 Jember. This study uses the Kemmis & McTaggart model which consists of four components, namely planning, action and observation, and reflection. The four components are seen as one cycle, while this study consists of three cycles. The results of this study show that with the application of Digital Game Based Learning learning, the problem-solving ability of students becomes more improved, this is seen from the results of pretests and postest given to students during learning. The percentage of completeness in cycle 1 is 50%, then increases in the second cycle to 94% and in cycle 3 to 100%. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the application of digital game base learning can improve problem solving skills in grade 8A students of SMPN 2 Jember.
