Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas dasar-dasar aksiologi dalam pendidikan dasar dengan menitikberatkan pada nilai kegunaan ilmu dalam praktik pendidikan. Tujuan penulisan ini adalah untuk menganalisis peran ilmu pendidikan, hakikat kegiatan mendidik sebagai ilmu, seni, dan praksis, serta relevansi ilmu pendidikan dalam praktik pembelajaran di sekolah dasar. Metode yang digunakan adalah kajian literatur dengan mengkaji berbagai teori dan hasil penelitian yang relevan. Hasil pembahasan menunjukkan bahwa ilmu pendidikan memiliki nilai praktis yang penting dalam membantu guru merancang, melaksanakan, dan mengevaluasi pembelajaran secara sistematis dan bermakna. Kegiatan mendidik tidak dapat dipahami hanya sebagai ilmu atau seni semata, melainkan merupakan perpaduan keduanya yang diwujudkan dalam praktik nyata (praksis). Selain itu, ilmu pendidikan dasar terbukti memiliki kegunaan nyata dalam membantu guru memahami karakteristik peserta didik, menentukan strategi pembelajaran yang tepat, serta mengambil keputusan pedagogis secara profesional. Analisis kasus menunjukkan adanya dilema antara pembelajaran terstandar dan improvisasi guru. Pembelajaran berbasis standar menjamin keteraturan dan akuntabilitas, namun cenderung kurang fleksibel, sedangkan improvisasi guru mampu meningkatkan keterlibatan siswa meskipun hasilnya lebih beragam. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan keseimbangan antara kepatuhan terhadap standar dan kebebasan profesional guru. Dengan demikian, pendidikan yang efektif memerlukan integrasi antara teori, pengalaman praktis, dan nilai-nilai kemanusiaan agar mampu mengembangkan potensi peserta didik secara optimal.

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the validity and practicality of worksheets as a form of procedural scaffolding within the ScaPro-PjBL model for training TPaCK. Method: The design of these worksheets followed Plomp's (2013) design research stages: preliminary research, development/prototyping, and assessment. Developed alongside the innovative Scaffolded Product in Project-Based Learning (ScaPro-PjBL) model, the worksheets underwent expert review for validity and were piloted with 21 students in a limited pilot and 98 students in a broad pilot from two East Java campuses in Indonesia. Validity scores, reliability statistics (ICC(3, k) and Cronbach's Alpha), and practicality results were collected throughout these stages. Results:  The worksheets were found to be valid, with an average validity score of 8.65 (very valid), an ICC(3, k) of 0.819 (good reliability), and an α of 0.839 (good reliability). Practicality was also confirmed, with an average score of 3.26-3.50 (very practical) in extensive trials. High reliability in practicality assessment was recorded using both ICC(3,k) and Cronbach's Alpha. Novelty: The six worksheets in this study were specifically designed as scaffolding in project-based learning to support the development of the ScaPro-PjBL model. The specifications for worksheet development are detailed in this article. This study contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing structured, student-centered learning resources that enhance project-based learning implementation, promote higher-order thinking, and support equitable, high-quality science education.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the scientific literacy of fifth-grade students at SDN Airlangga I/198 Surabaya within the framework of ecological citizenship, operationalized through four dimensions; (1) ecological foundations, (2) conceptual awareness, (3) investigation and evaluation, and (4) action skills. A mixed-methods descriptive design was conducted involving 30 fifth-grade students through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a validated 10-item multiple-choice scientific literacy test aligned with three PISA indicators; explaining phenomena scientifically (SL1), evaluating and designing scientific enquiry (SL2), and interpreting data and evidence scientifically (SL3). The qualitative data gathered through classroom observations and semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics for the test results and thematic analysis for observational and interview data. The results showed a moderate overall mean score (52.3%), with SL1 and SL3 also categorized as moderate (56.7% and 57.5%, respectively), while SL2 was notably low (41.0%). These findings indicate that students performed better in explaining scientific phenomena and interpreting data, while inquiry-related skills remained limited. Observations and interviews also revealed that students had basic conceptual understanding but still lacked analytical and inquiry skills. This study provides a foundational assessment linking scientific literacy and ecological citizenship at the elementary level in Indonesia, addressing a gap in existing research.

Abstract

This study explores the use of the Flipbook platform as an instructional medium to enhance reading skills among students at the Indonesian School of Davao, Philippines. The need for effective and engaging learning media is crucial, particularly for students with unique characteristics, such as learners of Bahasa Indonesia for Foreign Speakers (BIPA), participants in the Basic Indonesian Knowledge Course (KPDI), and those newly introduced to Bahasa Indonesia. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach, focusing on understanding how Flipbook can support reading comprehension and language acquisition. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and document analysis to examine the learning process and its effectiveness. The findings reveal a series of structured steps for implementing Flipbook in Bahasa Indonesia instruction, highlighting its role in improving students’ engagement, comprehension, and overall reading proficiency. The study demonstrates that Flipbook facilitates interactive and visually enriched learning experiences, making language acquisition more accessible and enjoyable. The results contribute to the development of innovative teaching strategies within the BIPA program, KPDI, and Overseas Indonesian Schools (SILN). This study underscores the potential of digital learning media in fostering literacy and offers practical implications for educators seeking to enhance reading skills in Bahasa Indonesia instruction.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of a locally contextualized STEM-based learning device, “Dawet Jabung,” in improving students’ scientific literacy at MA Darul Huda. Methodology: A quasi-experimental posttest non-equivalent control group design was used. The experimental class (n = 16) learned using a STEM-based “Dawet Jabung” learning device, while the control class (n = 16) used traditional materials. Quantitative data were collected through a scientific literacy questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent-samples t-test, and N-Gain scores with SPSS 21. Qualitative data from interviews supported the quantitative findings. Main Findings: The experimental class showed higher scientific literacy, with 75% categorized as “good” and 25% as “very good” (M = 68), compared with the control class, which was dominated by the “poor” category (50%) with an average score of 58. The t-test revealed a significant difference (t = 9.297 > t-table = 2.036). The N-gain score of 0.65 indicated moderate effectiveness. Interview results indicated increased engagement, curiosity, and conceptual understanding among students who used the STEM tool. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study introduces a unique Ethno-STEM learning device integrating local wisdom “Dawet Jabung,” bridging scientific concepts with cultural practices. The innovation advances existing STEM literature by demonstrating that integrating cultural context enhances scientific literacy more effectively than conventional STEM alone. This work contributes a new pedagogical model aligned with the Merdeka Belajar curriculum’s emphasis on contextual and culturally responsive learning.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to map how the educational philosophies of constructivism, progressivism, pragmatism, and humanism shape pedagogical paradigms and teaching practices in elementary science education. It also seeks to develop an integrative conceptual framework that supports meaningful and student-centered science learning in 21st-century primary education. Methodology: This study employed a qualitative Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following PRISMA guidelines. Articles were retrieved from the Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) databases covering the 2015–2025 period. Ten peer-reviewed articles were selected after identification, screening, and eligibility stages. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis and narrative synthesis supported by a structured data extraction instrument. Main Findings: Constructivism promotes active knowledge construction through inquiry-based approaches such as CIBSE. Progressivism emphasizes student-centered and adaptive learning environments supported by digital technology. Pragmatism integrates cultural and empirical knowledge through experiential reflection, while humanism supports holistic development by addressing affective and social dimensions. Effective science learning emerges from the interaction of these traditions rather than reliance on a single paradigm. Novelty/Originality of this study: The study synthesizes four philosophical traditions into a unified Integrative Philosophical Framework, which has rarely been explored in previous SLR studies. The findings encourage educators to adopt a reflective multi-philosophical approach. However, the review is limited by its small sample size and reliance on predominantly English-language sources. Future research should involve longitudinal mixed-methods studies across a broader range of educational contexts.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengoptimalkan literasi saintifik progresif peserta didik melalui penggunaan aplikasi Sciedugame Mobile di SMP Negeri 56 Surabaya. Metode yang digunakan adalah quasi eksperimen dengan desain pretest-posttest control group. Sampel terdiri dari dua kelas, yaitu kelas kontrol (n=35) dan kelas eksperimen (n=35). Rata-rata nilai pretest kelas eksperimen sebesar 37,09, meningkat menjadi 69,24 pada posttest, dengan N-Gain rata-rata 0,51 (kategori sedang). Sebaliknya, kelas kontrol hanya mengalami peningkatan dari 35,35 menjadi 57,82, dengan N-Gain rata-rata 0,35 (kategori rendah). Uji-t menunjukkan nilai signifikansi (Sig. 2-tailed) = 0,000, yang berarti terdapat perbedaan signifikan antara hasil belajar kedua kelas. Uji normalitas dan homogenitas juga menunjukkan data berdistribusi normal dan homogen. Hasil ini membuktikan bahwa aplikasi Sciedugame Mobile efektif dalam meningkatkan literasi saintifik progresif siswa secara signifikan. Penggunaan media interaktif ini mampu menciptakan pembelajaran yang lebih kontekstual, menyenangkan, dan berdampak pada pemahaman konsep sains secara mendalam.

Abstract

The improvement of critical thinking skills is a key demand of the Merdeka Curriculum, which emphasizes student-centered learning and the development of higher-order thinking skills. However, the critical thinking abilities of junior high school students have not yet developed optimally, particularly in environmental pollution topics that require scientific analysis, reasoning, and decision-making. This study aimed to describe the improvement of students’ critical thinking skills through the implementation of the Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) approach combined with a classroom discussion model in class VII-H of SMP Negeri 14 Surabaya. This research employed a quantitative approach using a one-group pretest–posttest design. The research procedures included administering a pretest, implementing SSI-based learning on environmental pollution topics, and administering a posttest. The research instrument consisted of an essay test measuring critical thinking skills across five indicators: providing simple explanations, building basic skills, drawing conclusions, providing further explanations, and developing strategies and tactics. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, N-Gain analysis, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, and a paired sample t-test. The results showed that all critical thinking indicators improved, with N-Gain values in the moderate to high categories. The paired sample t-test results indicated a Sig. (2-tailed) value of < 0.001, demonstrating a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. Therefore, the Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) approach is effective in improving students’ critical thinking skills on environmental pollution topics. ABSTRAK Peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis merupakan tuntutan Kurikulum Merdeka yang menekankan pembelajaran berpusat pada murid dan pengembangan keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi. Namun, kemampuan berpikir kritis murid SMP masih belum berkembang secara optimal, khususnya pada materi pencemaran lingkungan yang menuntut analisis, penalaran, dan pengambilan keputusan berbasis sains. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis murid melalui penerapan pendekatan Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) yang dipadukan dengan model classroom discussion pada murid kelas VII-H SMP Negeri 14 Surabaya. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain one-group pretest and posttest. Prosedur penelitian meliputi pemberian pretest, penerapan pembelajaran berbasis SSI pada materi pencemaran lingkungan, dan pemberian posttest. Instrumen penelitian berupa tes uraian kemampuan berpikir kritis yang mencakup lima indikator, yaitu memberikan penjelasan sederhana, membangun keterampilan dasar, menyimpulkan, memberikan penjelasan lebih lanjut, serta mengatur strategi dan taktik. Data dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif, uji N-Gain, uji normalitas Shapiro–Wilk, dan uji paired sample t-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa seluruh indikator kemampuan berpikir kritis mengalami peningkatan dengan kategori N-Gain sedang hingga tinggi. Hasil uji paired sample t-test menunjukkan nilai Sig. (2-tailed) < 0,001, yang menandakan adanya perbedaan signifikan antara nilai pretest dan posttest. Dengan demikian, pendekatan Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis murid pada materi pencemaran lingkungan.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low motivation of students to learn science, especially on the topic of heat which is often considered abstract and difficult, as well as the dominance of teacher-centered learning methods. The focus of the problem in this study is to determine the increase in student learning motivation through the implementation of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) cooperative learning model assisted by interactive media Wordwall. The research method used is pre-experimental with a One-Group Pretest-Posttest design involving 32 students of class VII-J SMPN 28 Surabaya as research subjects. The research stages include giving a motivation pretest, implementing learning according to the TGT syntax (class presentation, group study, tournament using Wordwall, and group awards), and ending with a posttest. The results of the study showed that student learning motivation increased with an average N-Gain score of 0.69 in the moderate category. The conclusion of this study is that the application of the TGT model assisted by Wordwall is effective in increasing students' learning motivation on the material of heat and its transfer. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya motivasi belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran IPA, khususnya pada materi kalor yang sering dianggap abstrak dan sulit, serta dominasi metode pembelajaran yang masih berpusat pada guru. Fokus masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui peningkatan motivasi belajar siswa melalui penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Teams Games Tournament (TGT) berbantuan media interaktif Wordwall. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pre-experimental dengan desain One-Group Pretest-Posttest yang melibatkan 32 siswa kelas VII-J SMPN 28 Surabaya sebagai subjek penelitian. Tahapan penelitian meliputi pemberian pretest motivasi, pelaksanaan pembelajaran sesuai sintaks TGT (presentasi kelas, belajar kelompok, turnamen menggunakan Wordwall, dan penghargaan kelompok), serta diakhiri dengan posttest. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa motivasi belajar siswa mengalami peningkatan dengan skor rata-rata N-Gain sebesar 0,69 dalam kategori sedang. Simpulan penelitian ini adalah penerapan model TGT berbantuan Wordwall efektif dalam meningkatkan motivasi belajar siswa pada materi kalor dan perpindahannya.
